Nice touch with a welcome "Birthday" framed certificate and nice complimentary dessert. The restaurant is always busy on a weekend night (and most other nights as well), so sometimes the food can be a little slow coming from the kitchen, but not this time. All courses were delivered hot and on a timely manner. Shout out to Holly R. - our server - excellent knowledge of the menu and did a great job through the entire dinner. We will definitely be back. They go out of their way to see that you are satisfied.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrating our anniversaryWe've been to Roy's to celebrate our last three wedding anniversaries with our young children. They especially look forward to it and we are always treated very well. Even though our older son orders off of the adult menu now, they still let him have the "keiki" appetizer of crudités, sliced apples and a quesadilla. If we lived closer, we would probably come more often, because the prices are pretty reasonable for the food and service. Both were really really good. Tuna was pepper crusted and seared rare - served with great sauce over rice - one of the best Tuna courses I've had in a while. Service again was very friendly, timely, and attentive. My wife's meal of scallops was excellent she said. My macadamia nut encrusted Mahi-Mahi unfortunately was occassionaly "fishy". I ate about half and of that half maybe half was "fishy" - something I usually attribute to frozen fish kept too long. However, the rest of my meal including vegetable, salad, and dessert were excellent and I did not complain and give them a chance to rectify the meal and hence my "GOOD" rating for the food. The dishes were quite inventive. The pork jowls were a take-off on Loco Moco and were very good.
The only drawbacks are the open kitchen and the noise level. Open kitchens in my mind detract greatly from a dining experience, and the noise level made conversation at our table difficult.
