Diner Reviews
  • "I only go to Roy's when I'm traveling since we don't have one in DC. And every time I go to one, it is a great meal. I have been to their restaurants in San Francisco, Arizona, Honolulu & now Baltimore. Honolulu is still my favorite. I always order the butterfish, molten chocolate cake and the hawaiian martini, and the buttefish is simply amazing!!! I had the trio - salmon, mahi & butterfish the other night and the buttefish stole the show. So I ordered another entree. Then I ended my meal with the chocolate cake. I love Roy's and I Am looking forward to my next visit."

  • "I just wanted to say that the dine experience here was awesome and Kristin at the front was the best she took care of my relative and I and made us feel so welcome and because of her going so above and beyond during my visit I have recommended to my office to use this for our next 4 lunch meeting for the rest of the year. The management was awesome as well there was a small hickup with my relative order but it was corrected immediately and was compensated with out our knowing at the end with a lovely to die for desert I told him that this was not necessary and he said no way we like to take care of our guest it left this lasing impresion and i am for ever a Roys customer!!!! I believe his name was Briceon"

  • "Roy's is one of my "go to" restaurants. But the one downside is the noise level. OpenTable calls it energetic - and it is. But if you're just having a quiet dinner with family or friends - this isn't the place to be (at least not this past Tuesday night). There's nothing wrong with the restaurant at all - and I still highly recommend it. But to go there is to accept the fact that at time the noise levels reach that "energetic" level whether you're prepared for it or not."

  • "We went here for our anniversary and weren't impressed with the food or the ambiance. It wasn't very romantic and the food, for the prices, was not anything to write home about. Definitely do not recommend."

  • "Roy's recognized our special occasion with table decorations and as always provided an outstanding meal. Our "go-to" special occasion restaurant!"

  • "I consider myself a Roy's "regular" since I eat there often and have eaten at numerous locations. As commented in my reviews in the past, there really is nothing that can be said from a negative perspective about the food. The service on the other hand seems to be a hit or miss at the Baltimore location. I'm sorry if I think there is more to a server doing his/her job than merely taking the order and then showing up once during the meal and then once to take a dessert order. When you buy a nice bottle of wine the server should make an attempt to pour the wine. At some restaurants they even get offended if you TRY to pour it yourself. Server was just MIA most of the time even though she was nice."

  • "rather loud when they're busy, but the food is fantastic and the service is excellent!"

  • "I expected the food to be better than it was. It was not bad, but it certainly wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be."

  • "We were seated on time. Our server was busy and perhaps distracted with answers to our menu questions. Responses were not real favorable or customer friendly. Our snapper was spongy and perhaps over frozen prior to cooking. It lacked flavor. I would recommend this place."

  • "The food, service were great. The noise level is terrible; if you want a romantic evening where you are able to converse with your partner, this is not the place!"

  • "Great staff, atmosphere and phenomenal food. We came all the way from Reston, Va and it was worth the trip. They really knew how to make my girlfriend feel special for her birthday. Thank you Roy's!!! We will definitely be back."

  • "Excellent Food, Service and Cocktails! The rolls are amazing, especially the Ebi Roll."

  • "I arrived on time and was immediately seated. Saturday night at 7:00pm. Was given an order of Edamame at the upon arrival. Shared a california lobster roll as appetizer and was enough for two. Ordered surf and turf dinner and Grilled Salmon. Both orders came with a starch and vegetables. Both were prepared to perfection. I would return. A+"

  • "We are Roy's veterans. Have attended Roy's in 25+ locations. We have never had a mediocre meal. Always fabulous. Service and food presentation are top notch. Menus vary from location to location which makes each worth checking out."

  • "My girlfriend is has a capsasin allergy (ground based peppers). Included a plain English explanation in our Open Table Reservation. After being seated while I was at the bar, a (bus boy) brought a serving of edamame to our table -- never having seen edamame served with cayenne pepper before my girlfriend has a predictable allergic reaction. The manager made her comfortable and even brought an allergen from his safe. Having now been put on notice... We were very cautious in explaining to our waiter about her allergies. They brought us a menu the chef marked up as safe. However, it quickly became apparent our waiter was both nervous and rushed ... Which caused concern and anxiety. He needed to practice listening skills."

  • "Ended up at the bar from Happy Hour, good food. Edi Roll was my favorite. Steamed Pork Bun are the perfect bite. Drink special are interesting but a bit sweet for me."

  • "Every time we have dined at Roy's in Baltimore, the appetizers were good, but the entrees were lacking. This time we tried a selection of appetizers. Unfortunately, they suffered form the same inconsistency. Shortrib Bi Bim Bap - Last time we got this, it was excellent. This time it was mediocre. The egg and meat were overcooked, and the rice was dry. Lobster Pot Stickers - These were very well cooked and flavorful Big Island Poke - This was also very good. Well seasoned and delicious Canoe Appetizer for Two - This dish was also inconsistent. The spring rolls were ok; the shrimp were bland, but the kimchi was good; the chicken satay was ok (the dipping sauce was not good); and the spare ribs were delicious."

  • "My fiancé and I can here exactly three weeks before our wedding day for a date night and to celebrate. We had such a great time! The staff at Roy's were so attentive and I felt like we were the only ones there even though it was a busy Friday night. They did a wonderful job spacing out our meal and always made sure our drinks were full. What a wonderful experience! We will definitely be returning to Roy's again!"

  • "The service is amazing and the restaurant is beautiful. The food is good but I wasn't blown away or impressed so based on that I think the prices are too high. I got the Teppanyaki Shrimp.. The shrimp was overcooked and the noodles were flavorless. The tempura vegitables were good. I should have just ordered that."

  • "I've been to Roy's a bunch of times. That night though, the hostess wasn't as nice and accommodating. We had an 8:15 reservation, took them until 8:35 to seat us. I requested for a booth, but the hostess said that was reserved for another party, only to notice that the booth remained empty all night. Was so annoyed and disappointed. Not at par with Roy's customer service."

  • "I love the menu and interesting choices they offer. Even though the portion sizes may be a little less than your average restaurant the quality of the food and the effort put into your entire meal sure makes up for it. Service was friendly. Restaurant itself is very nice. Was expecting people to be all dressed up but really anything goes at Roys. Probably thanks to the casual laid back Hawaiian roots."

  • "I find that 3 times a year they open early for a "brunch," so I was disappointed to discover that the full menu was not available then. I was very pleased with my appetizer and entrée, though my wife's entrée didn't excite her as much. Dessert was acceptable, but I wouldn't order it again. All in all seemed like quite a fine place, but you need to learn the menu according to your tastes, and don't expect bargain prices."

  • "i went to Roy's during the winter Restaurant Week and fell in love with it's well crafted cocktails and delicious food. It was my mother's 70th birthday and she was treated special from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. I enjoy the young ladies who greet you at the entrance. They are very pleasant and accommodating. They ensured my mom had a view of the city during her dinner. Our waitress was a true gem. She and my mother bonded over both celebrating their birthdays. She was geniunely pleasant and caring. It was an awesome experience and one my mother will truly remember. i will always recommend Roy's for any occasion."

  • "Have been to Roy's in the past and was very excited to take some family on this occasion but we were very disappointed in our dining experience on Saturday night. The entrees were served cool and one of the 4 of us did not receive their dinner til after the rest of the party was almost done the wait or did not comment about this just served the late entree this is not acceptable in a restaurant like this he also continues to talk bout the sweet from the beginning of us being seated. Please let is dine and enjoy every course. More to say but basically our check for 4 was 300 and we walked away very disappointed "

  • "Love this restaurant in Baltimore's Inner Harbor because the menu is atypical of any other in this area. While the food was good-above average, the waitperson was unengaged and not wonderful. "

  • "This is the third Roy's I've been to and I'll continue to eat there when I find myself within close proximity to one, maybe just not this one. The food was certainly up to the standards that I'm used to at other Roy's locations, but the service here was achingly slow. Not that we were expecting fast food, but we also weren't counting on waiting 30 minutes for our appetizers. Even worse than that, when we needed something, our server was nowhere to be found. No water refills. No drink reordering. No salt and pepper. But make no mistake, after I had finished paying the bill, she was very quick to pick it up and see what kind of tip she got. "

  • "Been wanted to try this place for a while. Food met expectation. For some reason they changed servers in the middle of dinner and a few things were messed up. Nothing terrible but when paying these prices expectations are high. I'd recommend and go back myself."

  • "Met a business partner for the first time midweek. Excellent food and service. Very accommodating. Able to engage in conversation without interruption from ambient noise or over eager servers. However, attentive staff with eye to detail. Sat in dinning area. Obvious bar area is local go to spot."
