RoyceNice spot for a business lunchThis was a very good find for a client meeting at lunch. Nice selection of lunch choices. lots of different table choices. Easy to have a private conversation. Good parking in downtown Highland Park. We had crab cakes, shrimp and the Arugula.artichoke salad. All were delicious. Most importantly, the attentive waiter kept our Iced Tea, water and coke filled all the time.
My only negative observation was how few diners were there at the Wednesday lunch hour. This is a very nive place. I hope the tables fill up at night. Otherwise I am not sure ow they will be able to make a go of it.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA Fun Neighborhood FindWe were familiar with the previous restaurant, Rosebud, but this place did a complete overhaul of the decor. It has wonderful wood work with posts that look like a game of Jenga. The bar is great with TV's and seating by the windows overlooking the sidewalk. The drinks are best ever...very creative, and we especially loved the presentation in the copper mugs that kept the drink icy cold (beer, vodka, ginger and lime! or tarragon infused vodka). They honored our reservation on time. The food was creative and very good. Portions not large, but beautifully presented and ample. Loved the fries, skirt steak....wonderful chopped salad. The restaurant is VERY large, so good chance of getting a reservation or walking in and getting seated.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI'll be back for burgers and bourboThis was my second visit to Royce. First time I had their linquine (homemade) with clams which was quite good. this visit I found they'd dramatically changed their menu. This time I tried a hamburger. Cooked perfectly medium rare (which so few places seem to do, I'd recommend their burgers without reservation. However, gone was one of the innovations I'd found most interesting - whiskey 'flights' that let you try 3 different whiskies (excluding single malts) for $12. When I asked my server about it, he said they only made it now by request. judging a whiskey's smoothness and taste is much more nuanced when you can compare it side by side with two others. by the way, if you like bourbon, try the Hirsch.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMROYCE: Gotta try this one!The hostess greeted us and sat us immediately at our reserved time. The rough wood finish and lighting separated the restaurant into more intimate sections and kept the noise level down- nice idea and very pleasant surroundings. Our server greeted us promptly and had good suggestions for drink orders as well as a thorough knowledge of the menu. He suggested the veal meat balls as an appetizer and they did not disappoint us! The roasted chicken breast was tasty- not overcooked and the quinoa was a delicious accompaniment. Other members of our party enjoyed beef stroganoff and burgers. Our group of 6 split a sundae and the banoffee pie- too good. Royce is a very nice addition to the downtown Highland Park restaurant scene!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMRoyce's, a great place to dine.Welcomed warmly. Our table was waiting. We shared a beet salad which was delicious. Highlights of the salad were the toasted pistachios and a wonderful balsamic vinaigrette. I had the roasted half chicken and it was done perfectly. The chicken came on a bed of polenta so delicious I was ready to lick the plate. My husband had the Austin burger and enjoyed it. We said no to dessert only because both of us were full.
Our waiter was very attentive as was the rest of the staff.
We were not crazy about the decor. It looked as if we were sitting in a barn but that being said, everything else about Royce is great. We will be going back.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe used Royce for a smallWe used Royce for a small company business dinner (6 people) and it worked out great
Food was great and service was outstanding.
The lighting was a little too dim to read the menus, however it was all around very nice.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat burgers! Will be returningGreat burgers! Will be returning soon to try other items. Delicious food, and great service! Easy place for a bigger group.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible value, great burgersI miss Moderno, but Royce is an excellent option for Highland Parkers. Amazing burgers, including the best veggie burger I've ever had in my life, and some great entrees including steak, almond crusted fish and the tastiest cocktail shrimp. Everything is a great value, and don't miss their milkshakes made with homemade ice cream. Portions are huge, but try to save room for their homemade desserts. The banoffee pie is exquisite - the best I've had and I'm not usually a pie person. They make theirs with a chocolate crust and it's very sweet, but I can't help but devour the whole slice!1/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first visit toThis was our first visit to Moderno and we were very pleased and look forward to dining there again.12/1/2012 12:00:00 AM
