Diner Reviews
  • "Overall this was great dining experience. We started with the lobster bisque and the pommes frites with truffle oil. Both were good, but were not served at the same time. We then ordered a filet mignon and the sword fish oscar. The filet was cooked a perfect medium rare with a nice flavorful char, but a little under seasoned. The swordfish would've been delicious on its own but the oscar topping put it over the top!!! The service was well-timed and friendly. "

  • "This was our first time at Rox City Grill and it was amazing! The food was great and the service was even better! If you're ready to spend a few extra bucks on a food meal, this is the place for you!"

  • "We had dinner Sat. Night. We had never been here for dinner. Food was very good and service by Jessica was outstanding. We got there early for our reservation as this is a very cozy ambiance and there was a large group of 8 when we arrived and by the time we left an 1-1/2 hours later the place was very full with another large table. We enjoyed our steaks which sides are included. The service was great. My only complaint would be we got the dessert assortment to take home and that was not as good as the rest of the meal when we ate it later that evening. We would returned. Ours was a pricy meal but, still worth it."

  • "The service and ambience were very good but the chef did an outstanding job on the meals in display and flavors. Plus the bartender did an amazing job on the margarita too."

  • "Rox City Grill does everything right! Great food, service, drinks and entertainment. Rox has a varied menu. We started the night with Lobster tacos and shrimp cocktail, followed by lobster bisque. For dinner my wife had a perfectly prepared filet. I had one of the night's specials: Swordfish Oscar. Everything was delicious. Our waitress was incredibly attentive, making a point to make our anniversary celebration special. After dinner we moved to the attached piano bar, which has lively ambience, great mix of people, and is always a lot of fun. Of particular note: the bartenders that work in the bar are top notch. They are friendly, provide great service, and pour one of the best martini's I've ever had. We highly recommend Rox City Grill."

  • "Have been here many times, but the service is the best ever. My wife had the short ribs and they were fabulous! Always good food in a very nice setting. Saturday night was very packed in both the bar and the restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation."

  • "We were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary and had a great time It brought back a lot of good memories of our reception in the Trophy Room and Rainbow Room! In addition to above reviews, we appreciated being able to use a coupon that was quite old and not good on Saturday nights. However, it was accepted with no problems and amounted to a nice savings. We will definitely be back before our next anniversary and keep up the good work. The Baker Hotel is still a beautiful and unique place!"

  • "We have passed by here numerous times and finally stopped for dinner. The menu is somewhat small and the prices are generally north of $25.00. We tried one of the specials that night, Braised pork tenderloin served over butternut squash tortellini. Our server saved the last two dinners available that night for us (although it was only about 6:30), and we were so glad that she ran into the kitchen to save them for us. They were exceptional, and one of the best dinners we have had in a long time. Our server, Shawna, was superb, friendly, and explained every dish we asked about perfectly. The atmosphere is quiet and well decorated. We will definitely be back for more."

  • "Came for a show at the Arcadar. Which is a great attraction to the area. Lots of places in the area to choose from. Selected Fox City Grill because of the 1000 pts offered by Open Table and we wanted to give it a try anyway. Overall is seemed over priced. Nothing that was special about it, other than the history of the old Hotel. Service was good. Food was good. I'm glade we tried it. But will try the other places near by... and there are many. They offer an enjoyable evening for less."

  • "We dined here on a Friday evening before taking in the show at Pheasant Run. What a pleasant surprise! The fixed-price menu was outstanding; two selections each of an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert for $30. The selections were excellent in taste and presentation; the service attentive but not overbearing; and the tables filled quickly after 6:00 PM. What a pleasure to hold a conversation across the table without having to raise your voice. Coming from the South Suburbs I'm only sorry that this is quite a trek for us. If it weren't we would be regulars at the Rox!"

  • "My husband and I went out for a quiet dinner after a long work-week. We were greeted promptly upon arriving and escorted to a private booth. I order the bone-in ribeye and my husband ordered the swordfish special. Both entrees were prepared to order and tasted delicious. We have always had a great meal at Rox City. I would recommend it for that special night out."

  • "The regular menu entres didn't sound terribly exciting so my husband and both chose the halibut special and it was awful. The fish was breaded and dry and had a spicy potato side... a very strange combination. It certainly didn't live up to the waitresses' description."

  • "The steak was great! Some of the other food we had: soup and arugula salad were...okay. Our waiter was fantastic and personable. For a steakhouse, great prices with sides included. Recommend sticking with steak and a glass of wine."

  • "The bar was out of Drambuie --The restaurant was out of a signature dressing --service was slow, but pleasant ---couldn't get information on a wine on their wine list ---it was a third and last visit --never been overly impressed"

  • "This spot is in the Hotel Baker -- an historic spot right on the Fox River in the heart of downtown St. Charles. It's a great area and Rox City Grill is a good choice among a lot of closely spaced restaurants. Mostly imaginative American food with unusual twists. Ours was well-prepared, well-presented and tasty. The room is decorated with a jazz theme and jazz plays unobtrusively in the background. Service was excellent on a slow, cold night. We'll be going back. Look around the hotel's public rooms while you're there. It's a reminder of a more civilized era."

  • "Overall, it was a nice experience. Good food & timely service. Nice ambiance. Reasonable corkage fee for bringing your own bottle of wine. My only observation was that this was a birthday dinner and that was not really recognized by the restaurant staff. Although we made the birthday boy feel special on his birthday, the restaurant staff did nothing to acknowledge it even though it was listed on the Open Table reservation asking if it was a special occasion and even when the waiter was informed. A free dessert for the birthday boy or a free cocktail or something would have been nice."

  • "Although the food was not bad it was by no means impressive. It was bland and the portions of some of the things we ordered were ridiculous! We ordered their pork wings appetizer for $9 and there was literally 2 wings. 2 wings for $9 is ridiculous! My chicken plate was a good price but the chicken was bland. The customer service was not that great either. There was maybe 15 people total in the restaurant and the service was extremely slow. Then we had a gift certificate (that says on it- no experation date) and they refused to accept it! Overall, not a good experience"

  • "Beautifully restored historic hotel setting with a small upbeat contemporary feel in the restaurant. Menu was not huge but had good variety. I had the filet and my husband had the swordfish. Both were prepared as ordered with excellent sauces and seasonings. We will definitely return on a special occasion. My o nm lyrics complaint would be that it is small and some tables are so close that you feel you are dining with your neighboring table."

  • "We ate at the Rox several weeks ago and I had the one of the finest meals I've ever had! Small scallops with a white wine sauce that was to die for! The Christmas Eve specials were just about as good! Always a great experience! Thank you!"

  • "My husband and I went to Rox City Grill for the first time on Christmas Eve. How did we miss this delightful restaurant all of these years?! The staff was very friendly and attentive. We decided to have several appetizers tapas style and each dish was perfectly prepared and presented. We had the lobster bisque which was wonderful, the tenderloin sliders and pomme frites, shrimp cocktail and the chocolate ooze cake. It was a wonderful evening and we can't wait to go back."

  • "My husband and I had a group on and waited until the last night to use it. The food was good, the service excellent, and the ambiance ok. I don't think this is a place for lids, what I didn't like was the crowded tables, which our waiter bled on the coupon. Also, the parking was poor. We parked about a block and a half away and the ice on the sidewalk was treacherous. This is the city's problem. Valet service would have been great. All in all, it wS a great night ."

  • "They could do a better job with scheduling reservations. Nothing is more irritating then making a reservation and having to wait anyway for more than 1/2 hour beyond the reservation time."

  • "My wife and I went with another couple here, and we were blown away by the appetizers. Main courses were fine, no better or worse than other restaurants of this type, but the appetizers were mind-blowing, and the waitress we had was fantastic. We're now planning on going here once a month."

  • "The food was outstanding and could complete with some of the best meals I've ever had. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was very pleasantly surprised. Even my 7 year old daughter loved her meal. I wouldn't say it's a kid restaurant but if you have an older child I think they will walk away happy. The donut dessert was AMAZING!!"

  • "The food was good, although it was served on gigantic plates and made it look very small. Portions were OK, but could have used a few more asparagus stalks and potatoes. The skirt steak was very good, but overall, for $22, it wasn't totally worth . The service was a bit on the bumbling side. Our waiter was relatively new, so I'll cut him some slack. But, there was confusion on who was getting what when they brought the plates out. But, the worst part was the piano bar. OMG! The guy playing piano was SO LOUD, you couldn't enjoy your meal! And, he wasn't that good, either! If he's going to be that loud, he should wait until 10PM or so to escalate the volume."
