ROUGE TOMATE is a TREASURE!
GreatROUGE TOMATE is a TREASURE!
Great cuisine with beautiful presentation, superb service, and a relaxed and elegant ambliance.
BRAVO!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed the experienceThe food was excellent. Very tasty. I really enjoyed my wine as well. Organic and delicious. I like the restaurant's philosophy of locally sourced, nutritious food. They do it very well. My only negative comment was that the portions were on the smaller side for the price.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh, clean, pure foodSeasonal menu, well-prepared dishes, and a great wine selection make Rouge Tomate one of my favorite midtown destinations.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic tasting menuWent to Rouge Tomate based upon Tripadvisor reviews as part of my wife's birthday treat and selected the tasting menu. The food was outstanding with brilliant combinations and flavours all fantastically presented. We were able to savour every dish and, with starters and desserts both 'trio' dishes, we, in effect, had 10 different tasting experiences. Service was impeccable although possibly verging on the over attentive as there were probably as many staff as customers, which was surprising for a Saturday night. When booking, I would recommend requesting a table in the quiet back alcove. Not cheap but a memorable experience that ranks as one of the best meals in our lives.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Ten Dinner!Rouge Tomate was terrific. The food was interesting and delicious and the service was great. We enjoyed every course - neat flavors and a great philosophy. Would definitely return.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfully AtmosphericGreat for a romantic occasion. The food is excellent, the service is exceptional, and the staff is very knowledgable. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Definitely would go back again!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Mouth Is Still ReelingI thought I knew what Rouge Tomate was about, but not until I dined there with a friend this week did I fully comprehend what an sensual experience it is. This was a pleasant riot going on in my mouth during the course of the meal. Each plate was not only pleasantly presented but the taste was in croyable, as the French would say. This is one restaurant and one type of culinary experience that all foodies should watch.. Ad if Alice Waters had her second coming.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOUTSTANDINGMy son and I had a Pre-mother's Day dinner which could not be better... This was by far the best tasting menu I have ever had. The amuse bouche, a trio, or sampler of three delectable small tastes was to die for. The Arctic char little log was fantastic, as we're all the baby vegetable garnishes, a medley of different tastes and textures which burst with flavor and freshness and crispness. The halibut was good, but the squab was perfection, cooked rare with a bit of foie gras on the side. The dessert, once again a trio of lemony tastes, one better than the previous one, again different textures which created the grand finale to a superlative evening. I must add that the service was exceptional, as well.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen only the best will do...This is the place you want to go for a special occasion and to really enjoy the full palate of offerings. Don't scrimp at this Farm to Table and healthy alternative, yet sophisticated and posh, restaurant. It is impossible to encapsulate everything, as menu changes frequently, but for those interested in very healthy and delicious food, very well presented, and with impeccable unobtrusive service, Rouge Tomate is for you.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant taste combinationsThis was our second visit, the first having been for dinner, and this time for lunch. Not only does the food taste divine, but it is also gorgeous to look at. The imaginative yet subtle use of herbs and spices makes each dish unique. The restaurant is blissfully quiet even when full, and the service is first-rate.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Ambience, Fabulous FoodWe had reservations for four and sat in the rear of the restaurant in a quieter area away from the main section's open floor plan. It was perfect for friends catching up so we didn't have to compete with others' conversation. The Hawaiian Walu appetizer absolutely melted in your mouth and all of us raved about the Cow’s Milk Ricotta Gnudi. I chose the rabbit entree and could not have been more pleased as it turned out to be my favorite over the halibut and lamb. The rabbit wrapped in Prosciutto married with the pickled ramp au jus was phenomenal. Don't forget to save room for dessert too.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA second visit to Rouge Tomate,A second visit to Rouge Tomate, and another outstanding meal. I'll call out the sommelier as one of the best in the city. A tremendous knowledge of the list, and for the second time made a wonderful suggestion of a wine to pair with the meal.
The beet salad was a stunning, fresh combination. Rabbit was beautifully prepared. I would recommend that anyone visiting leave a little room for the stupendous deserts.
It's not cheap, but by god it's good!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGorgeous decor, great food, serviceWe were four business associates who enjoyed a fab lunch. The $32 prix fixe is a steal. I had the asparagus salad, the fish and a fancy dessert. All had artistic presentations, and were deelish. Vegan guests had lots to choose from. Gourmet healthy, organic, artisanal. Section in the back has descreetly private booths. Very nice.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is excellent, theThe food is excellent, the sommeliere helpful, the decor very restful, and the sound level peaceful.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMRouge Tomate's cuisine isRouge Tomate's cuisine is innovative, visually beautiful, and utterly delicious. The room itself is elegant and light, tables are well spaced and comfortable, and despite the high ceilings, the noise level is decidedly moderate. Service was welcoming, attentive, and professional. It has become one of my favorite places to bring guests for lunch, and has been a hit with both jaded New Yorkers, and delighted out-of-town visitors.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb, inventive food. ParticularSuperb, inventive food. Particularly excellent for vegetarians.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. One of my favorite restaurants in NYC.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSophisticated, creative, flavorfulSophisticated cuisine, flawlessly prepared, as one would expect from a restaurant with Rouge Tomate's Zagat rating. Three of us dined a bit late (8:45pm), there was no problem with our Open-Table reservation, and we were seated in a very pleasant booth in an alcove. The bar and seats not in alcoves are a bit noisier (or livelier, depending on your perspective). I particularly enjoyed the octopus appetizer. The "sides" in every one of the dishes I ate were flavorful and creative. I heartily recommend Tomate Rouge, and the prices are not exorbitant considering the caliber of cuisine and the location; still, not the place for a diner on a budget.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic service, ambianceFantastic service, ambiance and most importantly an experience in flavors that make this restaurant special.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Meal!Had an Fantastic meal! Walu appetizer was amazing and poached halibut was delicious. Will go back!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI met a friend for lunch andI met a friend for lunch and the experience was delightful. The food was delish and beautifully presented, the atmosphere was just right - not noisy at all and the tables were far apart so you couldn't hear conversations from others. A bit pricey, but I will return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a great place toThis was a great place to take out of town guests - it's NYC swankiness is more enjoyable and less intimidating. The food was FABULOUS. They accommodated my vegan diet without a problem. I DEFINITELY recommend!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI never thought I would experienceI never thought I would experience a healthy and elegant meal at the same time but Rouge Tomate made a believer of me. I'm a cream, butter and sauce guy but my meal was very satisfying. (and the wine list is great too!)4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu Full of WinnersMy second visit -- food is uniformly delicious and interesting. Our companion said the Artic char was the best-prepared restaurant-served fish he'd ever had. Both wine-by-the-glass list and main-course menu are somewhat limited (and, for my budget, expensive -- we spent approximately $100 per person, including wine, without dessert), but filled with winners, such as the cauliflower and English pea toasts, the char, rabbit and Colorado lamb loin. The "seasonal toasts" make a first-rate shared appetizer. Service is solicitous, knowledgeable and gracious, offering tastes of wine before you order, for example. The large front room is significantly livelier and noisier than the more private banquette booths in the back.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb food and serviceEverything about this restaurant was superb, from the beautifully prepared and presented food to the service. The martini was perfect also. And the food was truly first rate.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAt the entrance you don'tAt the entrance you don't feel as you enter a Michelin star restaurant. We were overdressed compared to the ladies who welcome you. You get a receipt for your coatcheck, which was a downgrade for us as well. When you enter the restaurant you forget these downgrades immediately. The staff is really friendly, professional and welldressed. Their is a good and interesting winelist. We had some very special and delicious food. Restaurant is reasonably priced as well ($89 for a 6 course meal).Overall a very good experience!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMi loved the relaxed yet friendlyi loved the relaxed yet friendly and professional service.Nothing was too much, we got great service adding to the experience. The wine pairing and sommelier were first class.
The food was the hihglight. The degustation menu was top class and well worth of a michelin star.
The food combination, favours and textures were spot on and my hat goes off to the chef and his team.
Having been a chef for 30 years, i can only be impressed by the quality of the operation while serving such numbers.
I cannot wait to be back.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMHad the seasonal tasting menu.Had the seasonal tasting menu. Everything was excellent from start to finish with the service being just as wonderful as the food itself. Will definitely return.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy fiancée, who shares myMy fiancée, who shares my open table account with me, has now dined at Rouge Tomate four times. Every meal has been wonderful, but this last time two of the dishes were only average, which is why I'm not rating the food as "excellent."
That said, the waitress (and trainee) who served us were responsive, professional, and gracious.
On a final note, the ambiance is lovely with the exception of the camera flashes constantly popping. If only there was an effective way for management to control this, as it has been a hallmark of each visit.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMPricely but worth it. ServicePricely but worth it. Service was a tiny bit slow but very knowledgeable and helpful. Lighting and layout are very pleasant. Food was delicious. Great drinks list with original concotions.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAll the dishes we orderedAll the dishes we ordered were excellent and the staff was sensitive to our need to leave in time to attend a concert.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite NYC restaurants. One of my favorite NYC restaurants. Highly recommended.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding bothFood was outstanding both taste wise and in presentation. I found the service, however, to be good bit not at level I would expect for restaurant of this quality and price point. Having to request and wait for fresh pepper to arrive, getting water glasses filled, and correct silverware were disappointments. We have been here several times but felt service has declined. I was considering having private event here but after this weeks dining experience have reconsidered this venue. Also feel that $7 for cup of coffee is extreme.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen in the hood again, sure why notWas our first time at Rouge Tomate, found the place through yelp.
Before heading to Park Avenue Armory, it was an enjoyable stop before our performance.
I don't think the place is really our scene, but thanks to the chef, we got the chance to experience some great combinations of tastes.
I loved the portions were not big, just the right size.
Main courses we had were delicious.
Interiors seem a bit confused, too many styles happening all at once, but again since we are not the right demographics for the place, it would be unfair to focus on that.
Customer service is exquisite.
Thank you for a lovely Friday eve quick dinner before our show at the Armory.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the tasting menu andWe had the tasting menu and it was EXTRAORDINARY. The sommelier was extremely knowledgable and recommended a great Sancerre. Extensive wine by the glass and thoughtful non-alcoholic selection.

Everything beautifully presented3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHow to have a wonderful eveningHow to have a wonderful evening in the Big Apple - have dinner at Rouge Tomate. Every dish seems more delicious and amazing than the previous; and the service compliments the food.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA lovely place - feels asA lovely place - feels as fresh as the menu. A food "experience." Extremely helpful staff.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu is always changingThe menu is always changing with the seasons and what is fresh and available at the markets. Food is flavorful with out being too rich. I love coming here.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place. At first I didn'tGreat place. At first I didn't know if I would like food but I had heard good things about the place so I thought I would give it a try. Well, I was very happily surprised the food was excellent. The rice pudding for desert was probably the best I have ever had. Service was great and what I like most of all is that the tables are far apart and you can actually carry on a conversation without the other table hearing it.I will be back.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA little underwhelmedI think that while the service and ambiance were fabulous, the food was somewhat underwhelming. The portion as are SMALL! I understand that it's fine dining, but it was not worth it. I would go and have cocktails but not full dinner again.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLight, fresh menu. It wasLight, fresh menu. It was a delight! Had the tasting menu which was the perfect amount of food. Looking forward to going again during another season to see what a different season brings to the menu!3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly FabulousRouge Tomate is incredible. Jeremy Bearman and his culinary team are truly genius in combining good nutrition with fabulous taste! It is easy to create great food if a chef allows himself/herself the use of any ingredient without regard to healthfulness, but Jeremy et al have created a menu whose taste and presentation are extraordinary and whose nutritional value does not require a defibrillator to be on standby at the table.
Our waitress (whose name I unfortunately did not get) was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu and patient with the many questions we asked about it. As a result, my entire party of 4 was able to choose dishes that were excellently suited to their tastes.
Thanks for an outstanding experience, RT!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSampling menu was excellentSampling menu was excellent but just a bit overwhelming. Too many sweet desserts at the end. Service was attentive but not at all stuffy. On a cold windy night, when a large party would enter or leave we could feel cold breezes all the way back to the middle of the restaurant, a minor distraction.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
