Diner Reviews
  • "Always enjoy my meal. Will continue to comeback. Will recommend to others"

  • "What a treat!!!! Lucky to book a reservation within hours of dinner the same day. I do not have a clue why it is only a one star Michelin restaurant -,unless it is because there are no white table cloths- everything served was clearly made with ingrediatiants that were fresh, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. Other than the bread, which is well worth every calorie, we were more tha satisfied with our very nutritious incredibly delicious meal. No butter or cream is used by the chef in any dish. It was not missed -and the taste and texture of our dinner was better for it. Not one of the 6 dishes ordered and eaten could be improved upon. Do not miss the Rhbarb enhanced oysters! "

  • "The kind of wine list you just throw your hands up knowing you will never find just a few wines that rise to the top for you. You would need to set up camp and clear your calendar to make a dent in your wish list."

  • "We always try to get to Rouge Tomate when we visit NYC. The bar is relaxed but chic, the service attentive but not stuffy and the ambience is youthful and stylish: we love the vibey energy without deafening noise! The food was simply amazing: ginger oysters, black truffle, lobster, venison, celeriac soup with dusted foie gras. Beautiful raw fish and a divine array of puddings all beautifully presented. The only downside was that I got rather full as the portions were not very small and there were seven courses. A truly memorable evening, with beautiful and interesting wines selected for every course, with everything explained and delivered like clock work. A real treat in the best part of town."

  • "Food was amazing...beautiful, full of flavor...I felt really indulged, despite the fact that they source and prepare their food with health in mind. Service was stellar. Restaurant was beautiful. I can't believe I waited this long to try it -- I'll be back!"

  • "Had a great experience at Rouge Tomate. My wife and I were celebrating a special occasion, and we chose Rouge Tomate because of the menu - a great selection of light fare with quality, sustainably-sourced ingredients. We had the Chickpea & olive oil dish first, which had a very light and creamy chickpea spread, and the vegetables had a wonderful texture and taste. Ceviche was next, and while it was very good, but probably the worst of the dishes we had. The dish was fresh and the ingredients went well together, but it could have used a bit more "bite" of citrus. For our entrees, we had Fennel and Leek Risotto and Striped Bass. Both dishes were tremendous. Ambiance was great and very much fit the food. We will definitely recommend this."

  • "The menu was limited but everything that was ordered was cooked or prepared to perfection. The cerviche's offered were bright and extremely fresh. The lobster salad was absolutely delicious. The other guest ordered the Hake la Plancha and Sea Bass both were delectable. It was a very enjoyable lunch."

  • "This is a beautiful restaurant with great service, great food, very expensive with a limited, albeit, gourmet menu. The seating was prompt but a bit curious as to our original seating. We were directed to a two top when booths were available and many others were more comfortably seated. Seemed that the hostess was a little hesitant. Anyway, that dynamic was cured when we asked for a booth and were immediately seated...in the back with a nice view of the room. This is a beautifully and thoughtfully decorated room. If the lunch/brunch menu were expanded this would be one of the great NY dining venues. It has all of the important ingredients."

  • "This was our first visit to Rouge Tomate, and we absolutely loved it. It's elegant and quiet and the food was outstanding. My hake was as light and flaky and as great as a good fish is at Le Bernardin, and my husband's truffle risotto was a standout as well. The service was perfect. We can't wait to go back."

  • "Among four of us, we tried 9 savory dishes & 2 desserts. Everyone was happy with everything. My own fluke ceviche, venison and chocolate icebox cake with caramelized banana were superb and I enjoyed the tastes that my friends offered me."

  • "I wanted to take my wife to someplace very special for dinner for her first birthday since becoming my wife. I chose Rouge Tomate because I had driven past it one day and followed up by researching the restaurant. It was a lovely experience and helped to make the evening a great success. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and the food and wine selection were very good. It is a perfect place to spend a nice romantic evening."

  • "We've been to Rouge Tomate several times and have never been disappointed. With its emphasis on healthy dining and dishes that are as flavorful and creative as any 4-star Manhattan restaurant, RT is a must for foodies. We have never been served a single item that has not been exceptional. Be prepared for a gastronomic treat."

  • "Why have I waited so long to go this restaurant? I's one of my new favorites. The staff is very well-trained, the design is outstanding and the spaciousness and acoustics make it a pleasure to dine there. The food is so fresh and delicious, you can feel the tastes explode in your mouth."

  • "Locally sourced healthy food that makes you feel pampered with creative preparation and presentation. Service is oustanding, from recommendations about the food to being given 3 tastings before deciding on a glass of wine with our meal. It was pouring rain outside, but inside the restaurant we were warm and cozy!"

  • "The food and service at Rouge Tomate are both outstanding. We are continually impressed by the inventiveness of the chef and the interesting mix of flavors. On this visit, we decided to try the tasting menu, which allows for a wide sampling of the offerings and provides a great mix of items. We were satisfied but not overly full and enjoyed the lighter desserts which are not typically decadent but are delicious nonetheless. Bravo Rouge Tomate!"

  • "We had a large party of 10 and the restaurant was very accommodating. We started off with some amazing cocktails at the bar. All the fresh juices and house made syrups made for some great drinks. We were offered some amuse-bouche which gave us some insight on the great meal to come. I have the grilled octopus salad which another diner quoted as being the best octopus she has had, even better than the ones in Spain. The venison was done perfectly. Some diners indicated the tea that is was coated on the venison was slightly bitter, however to me when eaten with everything on the plate it was perfect. The guinea hen was another dish that was done perfectly. The food was visually stunning as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We decided to choose the wine pairing option with the tasting menu and it has been a great experience, of fresh and innovative food combined with very interesting wines."

  • "Rouge Tomate is a go to restaurant for me, most often in the evening. Today we were four friends and had the prix-fixe 3 course Business Lunch, an incredible bargain at $32. It was the first visit for 3 of us. The Broccoli Soup was astonishing, different textures and flavors of broccoli complemented by a large dollop of cod brandade. And the Char main course was outstanding. Veronica, the deputy beverage director helped us with outstanding wine choices including two great wines from the French Jura to go with our food. Highly recommended!"

  • "We celebrated our 40th anniversary here - one of the best meals we have had anywhere! We had the fixed meal with wine pairings that were all very well chosen. A great experience and would go back again and recommend to others."

  • "My second visit to Rouge Tomate. As before, everything was outstanding. (My tea-infused venison was memorable.) The wine list is remarkable, not only for the choices but also because it offers many bottles in the affordable 40/50 dollar range. The space itself is open and airy, tables uncrowded. Service throughout the evening was attentive but not over-bearing. One of NY's best."

  • "We enjoyed our meal from start to finish. I'm pregnant, so I enjoyed the juice bar drink options (the guava fizz was perfect). We especially enjoyed the lobster toasts (like an open face lobster roll), octopus salad, venison, and banana trio dessert. Service was very good. Portion sizes I thought were generous; we were stuffed by the end of dinner. Staff was very welcoming and warm."

  • "I've dined at Rouge Tomate half a dozen times and have never been disappointed. The food is terrific, and the service is usually solicitous. Though not a new restaurant, it still has an up-to-the-minute feel in its decor and food options. Rouge Tomate deserves un ruban bleu."

  • "My husband, daughter and I went to celebrate our daughter's birthday. It was our first time here, chosen because of the good reviews. We sat in the back of the restaurant in a booth, which was very comfortable. I liked that it wasn't too noisy to eat. Everything we ordered was well prepared, interesting and tasty. We chose a wine that we enjoyed as well. The only negative is that we waited a long time before they brought bread and an amuse bouche. Since we didn't know that we would get these, we ordered too much food. However, since everything was very good, so I'm not complaining. I would definitely return."

  • "I left satiated and satisfied-the food was beautifully plated. Each dish had a variety of color which translated to a variety of flavors. As my friends and I had similar, if not the same dish, I would like to return to try other dishes"

  • "This is amazing experience - simple ingredients vibrate in artful creations, simple yet unique. Oysters are adorable, cevice will blow your mind off, and the venison is made in heaven. Bravo chef!"

  • "Everything seemed alright. Good service, good ambience. But the food was too salty and nothing special. This place is definitely not for foodies."

  • "We love this restaurant. The food is fresh, flavorful, original. Great for foodies and health-conscious alike. Great for adults to sophisticated teens. Always feel satisfied after a meal at Rouge Tomate, both in terms of a delightful taste experience but also because the ingredients are selected and the food is prepared with such obvious care that you never feel heavy after a meal. Great bread, great non-alcoholic juices and teas as well as a good wine list. One of our favorites. We go more often for lunch than for dinner, but both are great. Truly a unique dining experience on the NYC map."

  • "I am really impressed. Love each and every course in the seasonal tasting. The one thing that I didn't really love was the cocktail pairing, the recipes are creative, but there is just too much whiskey. I should have got the wine pairing... But overall, wonderful experience. service is great too.I also enjoyed the interior design of the restaurant. would love to go back and try other things on the menu."

  • "The food is always tasty and the presentation is always superb! Previously I had only dined during lunch and left satisfied. This was my first dinner experience and while the food was delicious I wish the portions were larger. Even with appetizers, bread, main course and dessert, I found that left a little unsatisfied, meaning still a bit hungry. This was a girlfriends night out, wouldn't bring the boyfriend, he'd be mad and starving"

  • "After having delicious cocktails at the bar with a friend a while ago, I decided to make a dinner reservation for my husband and I. The food was great. The yummy homemade Focaccia with pumpkin spread was awesome. I personally was not a fan of the mushroom tartare as there was an overpowering taste of horse radish or something else quite sharp in this dish. My hen and my husbands truffle risotto was delicious. Service was somewhat on the slow side esp for the first round of drinks. The restaurant has a bit of a hotel restaurant feel to it but would be a great work dinner location."

  • "Had an amazing experience. Had the seasonal tasting menu and it was superb. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgable. Bar drinks were a tad slow getting to the table but after tasting them, didn't mind! Overall a great evening and highly recommended."

  • "A spacious restaurant with great decor. Food was superb. 2 drawbacks - for some reason bar service was very slow, but drinks were very good once they came. Also, tables are big, so for a table of 3, it was sometimes difficult to hear the person across the table. Would definitely go back. We had the "tasting" menu and my husband did "wine pairings". He thought the wines were excellent."
