Great DiningVery pleased with our choice for dinner as everything from the appetizer, salad and main entree were delicious! The flavors were simply outstanding with virtually no reliance on fatty or salty sauces or seasoning. Presentation was so good it made it hard to bite in. Best salad I have ever had in NYC!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFit for foodiesDelicious and very interesting menu. Superbe presentation and excellent wine list.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodThe food is excellent and fit for any foodie. The ambiance is fit more for a young crowd with the louder, bar-style music, however.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMReally original and beautifulReally original and beautiful food, beautifully presented in a fabulous setting.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother excellent meal pairedAnother excellent meal paired with an excellent wine choice by Pascoline, the sommelier.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently wonderful, tastyConsistently wonderful, tasty food with excellent, innovative, refreshing non alcoholic or alcoholic blended drinks. Serene dining area with quick and friendly service.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Nite EverHave been told that Rouge Tomate was a must and finally went with a high profile client from outside the US. Client was blow away and we both enjoyed the experience.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and ServiceThe food is great and the service excellent! Unbeatable combination!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA Culinary ExperienceA meal at Rouge Tomate is more than appetizer, main course and dessert. It is part edible art, part culinary adventure. The different flavors that the chef manages to put together are such that I would never think of myself and the colors combine to delight. I am specifically referring to the English Pea Soup, which was truly incredible. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful; the truffles at the end worth every calorie and then some. The service was impeccable; no attention to detail missed and the ambiance fresh, modern and inviting. Rouge Tomate is a one of a kind. They also accept MyCheck, which makes it easy to check out from your smartphone without waiting for the check. Will definitely return.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI love Rouge tomate.
ThisI love Rouge tomate.
This only thing was that even tough the waiter apologized for it, our cocktails arrived a while after our first course of the business lunch... but overall, a great moment.
Thanks6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly Outstanding! Its often true that what''s best is near home. Well, in the case of Rouge Tomate, my neighborhood has a winner. To start, and I must note, the service was beyond gracious, although very high end cuisine, the restaurant accommodated our staggered dining that evening, arrivals of our husbands imparied by weather delays. Our "table" , a cozy "room -table"--the only way I can describe it--was akin to a private dining room. And, now for the food. Just delicious. Some of the best crudo appetizers I have had in the city, followed by outstanding duck, fish and assorted accompaniments. You simply cannot be disappointed. So next time, don't pass by your neighborhood spots. You might just find Rouge Tomate!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFine dining close to Central ParkRouge Tomate lives up to its reviews however those with food allergies especially lactose intolerance need to be vigilant. Servers were knowledgable, helpful and understanding but seasonal tasting menu was a hidden dairy disaster. Our table had to pass on their signature experience because of lactose lurking in nearly every course. Perhaps the chef and others responsible for the menu need to expand lactose and gluten free options?
We still enjoyed a wonderful evening and recommend with caveats.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlll but dessertOur meal was very very good. The depth of flavor in the asparagus soup was intense and delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly. My only problem was with dessert. It pays to remember they don't use butter or cream. It's hard to create first class desserts, especially cookies and bread pudding without them.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat French-inspired foodGreat French-inspired food in a nice casual, contemporary setting. Young, energetic ambiance with warm, efficient service.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingMy sister and I had the most amazing dinner at Rouge Tomate. The food is art on a plate and the service wonderful, friendly and attentive. A real treat!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBravo, Rouge Tomate!
CreativeBravo, Rouge Tomate!
Creative cuisine, beautifully presented - superb service - elegant ambiance.
Rouge Tomate is a treasure!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMEven-handed ReviewerDelicious, healthy food, artfully presented. Elegant and relaxed environment. Very pleasant, responsive and professional service. Rouge Tomate is a gem.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI'll be backI had the tasting menu with wine pairings. The tasting menu was well designed and the pairings were interesting, unusual wines, which matched the food well. The food itself was also inventive and very fresh. It is hard to pick favorites from so many excellent dishes, but I loved the use of rhubarb with the oyster appetizer, and also the cocoa nib garnish on the halibut.
The staff were friendly and clearly enthusiastic about the food.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR DININGAN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR DINING AND FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMVetetarian-friendly innovaitionsPretty pairings and artful designs mean for sparse servings of pretty food that's healthy and balanced. It's a nice and well-needed dining concept, and many of the innovations are exceptional.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA nice experience - not the waiterThe plus: Really petty modern place (spacious, like u don't feel on top of each others), truly tasty food (perfect size portion), welcomin and accommodating staff (gave us a great table for anniversary, special message on my wife's dessert plate...) and good atmosphere (+not noisy)
The minus: our house cocktails were not good; our waiter (just the main one, not the others) was not at a Michelin one star standard
I would still recommend though as our minuses could easily be avoided
Cheers to Rouge Tomate!
G5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful, imaginative tasting menuEverything about the evening at Rouge Tomate was a delight. The tasting menu was six courses (+extras) of beautifully presented appropriately small, tasty and imaginatively prepared dishes, highlighted by uses of fresh vegetables, some pressed to crunchiness, and subtle sauces.. Our outstanding waiter presented each dish and wine--happily, we chose the wine pairing, sharing each glass , which was just right for us--with a brief and helpfully informative description. While not quite our favorite tasting menu--still shared by Jean George and Asiatic--it came reasonably close. I say "reasonably" as a pun, because the price ($85 each plus $50 for the wine pairings) was a bargain in comparison. Tables nicely spaced in an elegant room.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a memorable night!Fantastic food, attentive waitstaff, inventive, creative drinks and food menu, lovely ambiance. Had the Rhubarb Sidecar at the bar, then moved to our table for Albarino with dinner, Spring onion toast, Thumbelina carrot salad, Hazelnut Crusted Halibut (my husband had the Porcini Farrotto) and for dessert, the Mocha Torte. Everything was gorgeously presented and perfectly flavored! This will be my go-to restaurant for NY visits from now on! What a treasure to find such delicious and healthy and sustainably raised food at Rouge Tomate!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMROUGE TOMATE is a treasure!
Fresh,ROUGE TOMATE is a treasure!
Fresh, creative cuisine served graciously in an elegant ambiance.
BRAVO!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food placeI went here with my parents while they were here over the weekend. We have all decided this was the best place we have ever ate in NYC. Literally the best food ever. Not too filling but amazing food5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious ingredient- centeredDelicious ingredient- centered food. Always love it.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFeel Great...Yes, there are many restaurants with good, if not great food. This place has great food and yes, it looks terrific and feels even better as you enjoy your dinner and finally get up from the table. For most of my life, finishing a good meal meant being bloody FULL. Wading thru the rest of the day or evening was a slog. Now, this. Go now. Forget that I told you it's good for you...It's Delicious! Delightful! Energized and Energizing!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious & HealthyAfter dining in some of New York's most famous restaurants for special occasions in the past few months, we returned to our favorite, Rouge Tomate. The dishes here are just as delicious, wih the added bonus of no added pounds on the scale the next morning. The montauk fluke crudo and the strawberry quartet for dessert were highlights.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Favorite Restaurant in NYCThis continues to be my favorite restaurant in the city. This may be the only top restaurant in the city where I always want to try the new dishes on the menu.
Of course, I always ask the wait staff what they think, Tonight I sat at the bar with a good friend. We had the amazing new Tofu main course, the reinvigorated fluke ceviche, and one of the great fish main courses -- this time the arctic char a la plancha. Don't forget the oysters!
Pascaline, the wine director, picked some amazing wine matches with our dishes.
The bar attracts a very interesting clientele. This evening we got to speak with the sommelier from one of the top seafood restaurants in the city who sat next to us.
Highly recommended!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMROUGE TOMATE is a TREASURE!
GreatROUGE TOMATE is a TREASURE!
Great cuisine with beautiful presentation, superb service, and a relaxed and elegant ambliance.
BRAVO!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed the experienceThe food was excellent. Very tasty. I really enjoyed my wine as well. Organic and delicious. I like the restaurant's philosophy of locally sourced, nutritious food. They do it very well. My only negative comment was that the portions were on the smaller side for the price.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh, clean, pure foodSeasonal menu, well-prepared dishes, and a great wine selection make Rouge Tomate one of my favorite midtown destinations.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMone of the best dinners in NYC everAll of the dishes delicious works of art. The service was exceptional &attentive. An array of breads & fantastic spreads, the seasonal toast w/asparagus,ramps, strawberry, pine & basil; truly a delight for my palate! Also the spring garlic& stinging nettle soup- one of the best soups I’ve ever had in my life. Also a terrific baby beet salad. For my entrée- the olive oil poached west coast halibut with English pea puree -perfectly cooked and delicious! The room has a low key vibe, with an appealing color palate of cream, beige and red, lots of greenery and soft lighting. Obviously the chef uses only the freshest produce and seasonal ingredients to produce these outstanding dishes. I would highly recommend and can’t wait to return!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic tasting menuWent to Rouge Tomate based upon Tripadvisor reviews as part of my wife's birthday treat and selected the tasting menu. The food was outstanding with brilliant combinations and flavours all fantastically presented. We were able to savour every dish and, with starters and desserts both 'trio' dishes, we, in effect, had 10 different tasting experiences. Service was impeccable although possibly verging on the over attentive as there were probably as many staff as customers, which was surprising for a Saturday night. When booking, I would recommend requesting a table in the quiet back alcove. Not cheap but a memorable experience that ranks as one of the best meals in our lives.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Ten Dinner!Rouge Tomate was terrific. The food was interesting and delicious and the service was great. We enjoyed every course - neat flavors and a great philosophy. Would definitely return.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Mouth Is Still ReelingI thought I knew what Rouge Tomate was about, but not until I dined there with a friend this week did I fully comprehend what an sensual experience it is. This was a pleasant riot going on in my mouth during the course of the meal. Each plate was not only pleasantly presented but the taste was in croyable, as the French would say. This is one restaurant and one type of culinary experience that all foodies should watch.. Ad if Alice Waters had her second coming.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfully AtmosphericGreat for a romantic occasion. The food is excellent, the service is exceptional, and the staff is very knowledgable. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Definitely would go back again!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Pleasant ExperienceWe were there my husband and I meeting a friend and we loved our diner and the service was just perfect. We would certainly go back during our next visit to New York.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOUTSTANDINGMy son and I had a Pre-mother's Day dinner which could not be better... This was by far the best tasting menu I have ever had. The amuse bouche, a trio, or sampler of three delectable small tastes was to die for. The Arctic char little log was fantastic, as we're all the baby vegetable garnishes, a medley of different tastes and textures which burst with flavor and freshness and crispness. The halibut was good, but the squab was perfection, cooked rare with a bit of foie gras on the side. The dessert, once again a trio of lemony tastes, one better than the previous one, again different textures which created the grand finale to a superlative evening. I must add that the service was exceptional, as well.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant taste combinationsThis was our second visit, the first having been for dinner, and this time for lunch. Not only does the food taste divine, but it is also gorgeous to look at. The imaginative yet subtle use of herbs and spices makes each dish unique. The restaurant is blissfully quiet even when full, and the service is first-rate.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen only the best will do...This is the place you want to go for a special occasion and to really enjoy the full palate of offerings. Don't scrimp at this Farm to Table and healthy alternative, yet sophisticated and posh, restaurant. It is impossible to encapsulate everything, as menu changes frequently, but for those interested in very healthy and delicious food, very well presented, and with impeccable unobtrusive service, Rouge Tomate is for you.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Ambience, Fabulous FoodWe had reservations for four and sat in the rear of the restaurant in a quieter area away from the main section's open floor plan. It was perfect for friends catching up so we didn't have to compete with others' conversation. The Hawaiian Walu appetizer absolutely melted in your mouth and all of us raved about the Cow’s Milk Ricotta Gnudi. I chose the rabbit entree and could not have been more pleased as it turned out to be my favorite over the halibut and lamb. The rabbit wrapped in Prosciutto married with the pickled ramp au jus was phenomenal. Don't forget to save room for dessert too.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA second visit to Rouge Tomate,A second visit to Rouge Tomate, and another outstanding meal. I'll call out the sommelier as one of the best in the city. A tremendous knowledge of the list, and for the second time made a wonderful suggestion of a wine to pair with the meal.
The beet salad was a stunning, fresh combination. Rabbit was beautifully prepared. I would recommend that anyone visiting leave a little room for the stupendous deserts.
It's not cheap, but by god it's good!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGorgeous decor, great food, serviceWe were four business associates who enjoyed a fab lunch. The $32 prix fixe is a steal. I had the asparagus salad, the fish and a fancy dessert. All had artistic presentations, and were deelish. Vegan guests had lots to choose from. Gourmet healthy, organic, artisanal. Section in the back has descreetly private booths. Very nice.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was good and very unique.Food was good and very unique. Service was excellent. Only critique is that the wine list is too expensive.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is excellent, theThe food is excellent, the sommeliere helpful, the decor very restful, and the sound level peaceful.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMRouge Tomate's cuisine isRouge Tomate's cuisine is innovative, visually beautiful, and utterly delicious. The room itself is elegant and light, tables are well spaced and comfortable, and despite the high ceilings, the noise level is decidedly moderate. Service was welcoming, attentive, and professional. It has become one of my favorite places to bring guests for lunch, and has been a hit with both jaded New Yorkers, and delighted out-of-town visitors.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb, inventive food. ParticularSuperb, inventive food. Particularly excellent for vegetarians.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. One of my favorite restaurants in NYC.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSophisticated, creative, flavorfulSophisticated cuisine, flawlessly prepared, as one would expect from a restaurant with Rouge Tomate's Zagat rating. Three of us dined a bit late (8:45pm), there was no problem with our Open-Table reservation, and we were seated in a very pleasant booth in an alcove. The bar and seats not in alcoves are a bit noisier (or livelier, depending on your perspective). I particularly enjoyed the octopus appetizer. The "sides" in every one of the dishes I ate were flavorful and creative. I heartily recommend Tomate Rouge, and the prices are not exorbitant considering the caliber of cuisine and the location; still, not the place for a diner on a budget.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
