Diner Reviews
  • "WE have enjoyed countless, memorable, wonderful meals at Rouge Tomate over the past 6 years. We will miss you at your 60th street location and look forward to visiting you soon at your new location. Don't change a thing:)"

  • "Excellent cuisine, one of the finest I have ever experienced ( including Michelin tree stars) Friendly, efficient service We heard chef will be leaving, hoping the new chef in their new location will be equally superb"

  • "As always, another amazing meal! Every course, every element was perfect. There were absolutely no missteps. I truly hate that they're closing, but am grateful that the end result is that they're relocating downtown where I live. Long live Rouge Tomate!"

  • "So sad it is closing. The panzanella was especially delicious. The sommelier selected excellent interesting wines for us from the extensive list."

  • "I had heard the food at Rouge Tomate was fresh and full of unusual combinations and the restaurant more than lived up to my expectations. We shared an appetizer of heirloom tomatoes and watermelon, which was quite good. Then we each had poached halibut, which was garnished with an abundant serving of julienned strawberries and vegetables. The halibut was perfectly cooked, fresh and juicy, and when combined with the strawberries and veggies was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to return to try other menu items."

  • "The fixed price menu was both a treat and a wonderful bargain! Each dish was delicious and the presentation a work of art. I recommend Rouge Tomate highly. My only regret is that it will be leaving its current location! A loss to the neighborhood!"

  • "Really great delicate food . Very expensive of course !!"

  • "I've eaten here twice. The first time I had lamb; this past visit, the halibut. Both were so delicious. Can't wait to go back."

  • "The food was wonderful, especially the lobster salad and the bittersweet chocolate desert. But the portions were SO small!"

  • "Wonderful food, even for one party with a dairy allergy knowledgeable staff"
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Very precious in the sense of a poor price:value equation. Tiny piece if fish. Not enough to eat. Came home and made a real dinner."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "The food is exceptional. We went to this restaurant 2 years ago and were blown away. Happy to see things haven't changed!"
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "Although our lunch at Rouge Tomate was delicious, the service was inattentive and lackluster. We had two hours for lunch, but even though we told them we had a curtain to make, they didn't care enough to get an order for dessert in time. I've read they are moving downtown very soon, Maybe the staff just didn't care anymore."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Sophisticated, varied, complex meal with a rich wine selection. A classy experience."

    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We went to Rouge Tomate because I had read about it in wine spectator. I knew it had good reviews, but still, I wasn't expecting the very creative food. Delicious! Recommend it for a nice night out."

  • "When I Googled "pretty restaurants" Tomate Rouge was one that many seemed to rave about. We were seated in a back booth on the first floor which was lovely and intimate. Service was impeccable. The spring green pea risotto was sublime. Love this place!"

  • "Very creative food, attractively presented in beautiful modern setting. Some portions a bit on the small side, and lamb was a bit tough. But all dishes were excellent. Prices quite reasonable for NYC."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "My first experience at this restaurant was superb! Gracious, frienly staff, wonderfully spacious room, and a most remarkable menu that offer pungent flavors in every dish. Pricey, but worth it!"

  • "Rouge Tomate strikes a perfect balance between creative upscale dining that is healthy and tasty in an atmosphere that feels stylish and energetic but not overwhelming for good conversation. Instead of the tasting menu, we selected individual dishes from the menu, taking advantage of our very knowledgeable server's suggestions, and the sommelier's wine selections. Favorite dishes were Hawaiian walu in lemongrass ginger oil, jalapeno, snap peas; cow's mild ricotta gnudi; berbere spice lamb; and bernagat seared sea scallops. Although quite full, we shared an ice-box cake made of rich, dense chocolate cake made topped with brulee banana and coffee banana ice cream. A thoroughly enjoyable meal with warm and expert service."

  • "Enjoyed an excellent three-course lunch here ($32). The setting is comfortable if corporate and the location in mid-town convenient."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "I loved the food but the service was overdone - we had 2-3 people setting us and at some point post dinner it was hard to just enjoy our wine and have a conversation. I felt like we we're being interrupted and almost being pushed out - would not recommend it for a date."

  • "We have eaten at Rouge Tomate close to ten times. The restaurant on each occasion offered excellent service and delicious, imaginative seasonal food. We recommended it to friends and they too had a great experience. The music could be a little quieter, but you can still converse at a reasonable volume, particularly at the tables on the far side of the staircase. On one occasion, our guest arrived 15 minutes late, but the wait staff were wonderful as always and did not betray any urgency. We have found the wait staff to be discreet, correct, responsive, and at our initiative, friendly and happy to engage. We thank you, Rouge Tomate, and wish you continued success! We hope to return soon and often, and we will continue to introduce others. "

  • "First time there and cannot wait to return. A truly OUTSTANDING experience all around. Try the juices. Make sure you have the mushroom tartar appetizer. I don't really think you can go wrong ordering anything here. I think it is even better than Per Se quite frankly. Outstanding. "

  • "For 95.00 we got the tasting menu which was out of the world. 6 people, all served timely and food prep and explanation was perfect. Not too much, but certainly a little info for each. Excellent sommelier server. "

  • "Second time eating dinner here, and may have been even better than the first! As a vegetarian, they'll customize and make many things veg-friendly. All dishes were spectacular - veggie amuse-bouche, great foccacia bread, mushroom tartare, carrot gazpacho, gnudi, customized vegetable plate and icebox cake. Perfect and friendly service."

  • "The space is beautiful, the food delicious, the noise level allows for conversation, and the overall experience is lovely. This is my go to place for elegant but unfussy diinners"

  • "My husband and I ate here with another couple while visiting NYC from San Francisco. We were really pleased with our meal and definitely plan to return next time we're in New York. We tried the lobster toast, the walu with avocado, the scallops, the bass, the carbonara, and the lamb. The fish was all super fresh and everything was beautifully presented. My husband didn't care for the lemony taste of the carbonara, which he wasn't expecting, but everyone else loved their dishes. The scallops were some of the most velvety I've ever had and the sear was perfect. Service was professional and efficient. The bartender catered to our needs very well. Dessert portion was a bit on the small side."
