Rouge et Blanc is a French-Vietnamese restaurant situated in Soho. The chef, Matt Rojas (Eleven Madison Park, Degustation and Nobuo at Teeter House) offers an east-meets-west French and Vietnamese-inspired menu. At Rouge et Blanc, Thomas Cregan brings more than 20 years of wine-tasting… experience from the regions of France and placed in the top ten in The Best Sommelier in America Competition 2011. The wine list is all French. The name Rouge and Blanc is at once an homage to the wines of France and to the classic Stendhal novel. The restaurant has the look and feel of a French colonial tavern from 1940s Saigon. A Seven-Course Chef's Tasting Menu available for the entire table at $125 per person with advance notice. "We were looking for a quiet place with exceptional food for a romantic evening. We loved everything except the increasingly long stretches between each of our plates. Three small plates (each mouth-wateringly delicious), one after another, with a stretch of five or ten minutes between, was fine. But the half hour wait for the large plate (also delicious) was at least fifteen minutes too long, and meant it was too late to think about desert. So will have to try the recommended chocolate cake another time--and yes, we will be back."

"Small plates are terrific and unusual. What I hate about small plates is that you end up spending quite a lot more money if you come hungry. Next time, I would consider this place for a late night meal when I am interested in eating much more than a few plates and a nice bottle of wine."

"The food was truly memorable. Loved the decor and how quiet and comfortable the place was. The service was pretty good, but we got sort of abandoned towards the end of the meal, which often happens. But overall, we loved our dinner and will definitely come back. Intelligent food and delicious."

"I saw a show on PBS which was an in-depth look at this place. It was good. The food is good, and the design is really sweet. I ate only the "little plates" which was cool and seems like the way to go. The waitress recommended some good wine. Overall a nice place."

"Unusual menu, beautifully executed. The five-spice oxtail with roasted daikon might have benefited from a slightly more generous hand with the five spices, but really, where else are you going to get a dish like this? Rich, unctuous meaty flavor nicely set off by the ever-so-slightly al dente daikon. Rouge et Blanc is a real find: wonderful food and an excellent value for the dollar.

Early on a Tuesday evening there were only a few diners. Nice for us not to have to fight the noise and the chaos of the ever-restless Manhattan food crowd; probably less nice for the owners if this place is, indeed, flying under the foodie radar. The week-ends might be different story, but on Tuesday night—an undervalued gem."

"After seeing this written up in the New Yorker I think a friend and I went to celebrate her birthday and we were both so pleasantly surprised by everything: the decor, the food, the wine. I have been telling everyone to put it on their "go to now" list. Root vegetables in curry w/ Monkey bread- fantastic. BUT, THE MUST HAVE PLATE WAS THE HAMACHI W/GRAPEFUIT, AVACADO AND OTHER YUMMY THINGS. AN AMAZING MOUTHFUL!!"
