Rosso Trattoria ItaliaA great place.Located in the Trenholm Shopping Center near the post office this restaurant has free parking in the front and back of the building. I made reservations online and received telephone reminder the day before. My party was reduced from 8 persons to 4 and Rosso's made the change with no problems. Our waitress (I wish I could remember her name) was outstanding. Most people were dressed from buisness casual to casual. I would highly recommend Rosso's for great food and a nice area of town. This was a birthday dinner for me and I chose it after going to my niece Hillary's birthday dinner there. I wanted to see a live Jazz band but none was performing that night. The food was great. The server was extremely busy but good. We had high expectations and were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant has great atmosphere. I was very happy with the quality, taste and freshness of the food I ordered. At first sight it was questionable, but once we entered the doors, I could tell this place has class. The Hostess quickly seated us and we were greeted by our waiter who welcomed us. The lighting was low and the setting was fine Italian. The waiter gave us a moment to look over the menu and order drinks. When he returned with our drinks, he took our diner order. I had the Filet Mignon and my Fiance' had the Scallops and Pea Rissoto. Everything was cooked to perfection!
After dinner we had a few drinks out on the patio, and the waiter obliged to continue serving us. To finish the night off with deserts and Port. Obviously a neighborhood haunt, it is tucked away in a far corner of a shopping center on Forest Drive and is easily the best restaurant we've tried on our several trips to Columbia. Very low key, good simple food and welcoming attitude towards "strangers" among the local crowd made for a very enjoyable evening. I was impressed with the calamari appetizer - nicely cooked and very tender with just enough breading to add a layer of crunch. The scallops on risotto were very good. The blackberry BBQ lamb ribs made a surprisingly good meal, even though they are on the appetizer menu. And the check didn't break the bank. I orded the steak frites. The steak was ordered medium, but arrived medium rare, but it was still very good. I especially loved the parmesan truffle fries. However, the service left more to be desired. We felt that our waiter while knowledgable left us waiting quite awhile for simple things like straws and lemons. He only checked on us a few times, and he seemed to be rushed.
