Diner Reviews
  • "Arriving was very simple....turn into the Hotel off of Roanoak and use the free Valet parking. The restaurant is very contemporary (in a very nice way) and gives you the feel that you are in New York or a larger City with a popular eatery. We had drinks in the bar (they have a very nice sitting area outside the bar by the pool) along with the Chef's choice starter (which included some very fresh bread). For dinner we had the Lobster/Steak combo and the KC Strip. All was served piping hot and in a very timely manner. Service was excellent. They have different servers bringing your food, water and wine (which I find to be the best way to ensure my glass is always full and my food is always served hot!)"

  • "We loved the view and style of the restaurant but the limited menu and quality of the food kills it. It is waste of the investment."

  • "From our window seat we had a great view of the neighborhood near the Country Club Plaza. The decor was sophisticated and felt more East or West coast then Midwest. I had a caesar salad to start with and it was exceptional, quite a large portion. I had a pesto linguine with shrimp for my entree and it quite delicious... not too salty and the shrimp were grilled with a smoky flavor that delighted. I would definitely return. It seems like a great place to dine with friends."

  • "The view of Brush Creek alone is worth a visit. Lunch was good; had the caesar salad and club sandwich. Definitely will be back for dinner."

  • "Wonderful food, great service and the best views of any restaurant in Kansas City. Food is upscale and modern Italian plus excellent steaks. Wine list is very well chosen and well-priced. Bar is excellent with original hand-crafted cocktails and well-executed traditional drinks. The bar has a lively buzz to it all evening. A definite "must try" restaurant and bar."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and everyone was so friendly. I had mentioned in the comment section for my reservation that it was his birthday. Everyone that came by the table told him "Happy Birthday" that was so sweet. The meat and chhese tray that was served was fantastic. The drinks were great and the food was great as well. Thanks Rosso for giving us a great start to our evening plans!!!"

  • "I visited the restaurant twice this week. We were very pleased both times. The service, food, ambience were all great. The beet salad is a must. The moon pie dessert was delicious. The dessert choices were many and all looked good. The friendly waitresses made us feel very comfortable. Looking forward to going back when the view will be green trees and grass."

  • "The hotel's complementary valet parking was especially appreciated the evening of our event due to inclement weather. Parking was convenient and the staff was prompt and efficient. The bar was busy and fibrant; however, there was no delay in seating for the dining area. Our waiter, Anthohy, was attentive, well menu versed, and personable. The birthday "honoree" stated "It's one of the best martinis I've ever had. I knew they'd have a bartender who knew how to make one properly". Open Table made the whole process convenient and Rosso at Hotel Sorella completed the positive experience. Everyone who attended the celebration left with positive comments and will return."

  • "We went to Rosso for a special birthday evening. The view is the jewel of KC. The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The service was good. The waiter who brought our food was a lot more attentive than our actual waiter. I would return but only for a very special event."

  • "With a spectacular view of Brush Creek and Ward Parkway and even a sunset to the west, the restaurant's setting is lovely. The food was very good, especially the beetroot salad. The service was very pleasant, though a tad slow."

  • "Took my partner to celebrate his birthday. The drinks are a little overpriced for the size of the glass but he enjoyed all 3 of them. The appetizer, calamari was a little rubbery but passable but not as good as "Milano's" at Crown Center, hardly anyone can beat them in this particular appetizer. Our dinner was excellent, especially for one vegetarian who is picky but enjoyed his dinner. Desert was excellent. Portions of the dinner was just right, I was not able to finish mine, ate about 90% but was awesome. I highly recommend it but if you don't like loud parties, like their private area for about 14 then make sure you don't sit next to it. Otherwise, the place is very, very nice. I will have dinner there again next month."

  • "The view from Rosso is lovely. Floor to ceiling windows compliment the view into Sunset Hills just south of the Plaza. My husband ordered well--flatbread pizza at 14 dollars. I ordered the Risotto Verde at $28 dollars and was surprised at how small my serviing was. But back to the good part--i had a Rosso-tini which was delish. Served with a lovely pale pink rose petal garnish. My husband had a Moscow Mule which he thoroughly enjoyed. The wait staff seemed very busy and did the best they could, but I prefer a little more attention than we got. We were going to have a nightcap at a table near the fireplace after dinner but about 15 people walked in and with service being what it had been, we decided to leave. Good but too pricey."

  • "The dramatic architecture, multi-level open spaces, bold modern effects, and vibrant reds and blacks made this venue's atmosphere felt much more like Miami than Kansas City. At the minimum, go for a drink to enjoy the sweeping view, the hipster club seating and the bar scene. My companion and I were fortunate to have Sharon Trane as our server. I recommend that you ask for her for her expertise with her menu recommendations and comparisons of dishes to those of other fine dining in the city and beyond. Based on her recommendations, we enjoyed an exceptionally fresh Burrata cheese and heirloom tomato appetizer. Our two entres were the pork belly and the scallops and both were top dining experiences."

  • "Lovely decor and views. Service from our server was attentive. Appetizer/ main course (Short rib/Lamb) was excellent. Ceasar salad was very ordinary and the serving was large enough it could have been split and would be more than enough. The adjacent bar (Friday night) was packed and extremely loud. It seemed like some of that very young crowd drifted over into the restaurant after several drinks and gradually the noise level in the restaurant escalated. That might be what they are going for as the Sorello is a very trendy, eclectic ambiance. However, for a mature couple seeking a quiet gourmet experience, it didn't hit the mark.. I think it needs to decide what it wants to be...trendy hot spot or sophisticated dining experience."

  • "Rosso at Hotel Sorello in the Kansas City Country Club Plaza is relatively new but should be a destination for local foodies and friends for any special dinner. The service was excellent (thanks, Sharron!), the views splendid, food preparation and presentation superb and we could not have asked for a better evening out! We certainly will be back."

  • "I was a bit worried when I made reservations 1 month in advance and then read all the horrible reviews. I couldn't get reservations anywhere else at the last minute, so just hoped and prayed this wouldn't be a disaster ... the whole experience was delightful!!! The food and service could not have been better! This place is swanky and romantic ... perfection!"

  • "The waiter was totally inattentive. I He was too busy to help us with our napkin, or to take our wine order. We had to remind him we wanted to order wine when he hurriedly tried to take our food order. Had to wave him down to get bread. Bread plates were thrown down by someone else, not placed properly. Dishes were cleared by someone reaching in front of us while we were still eating . Waiter must have been busy but would not even look our way when serving the very next table. This guy must be someone's brother. Also had another waiter type with a flashlight who decided to flash a flashlight under our table asking . Really? Also a white table cloth would have been nice. T. Sorry-restaurant is not where it should be . Out of room for more."

  • "Posh and swanky. Floor to ceiling windows and round architecture to building allowing for a great view! Felt like being at an LA hot spot. Short ribs and strip steak were fantastic, cheese tray not as good. Will go back."

  • "Went to this resaturant on a Saturday night for an anniversary dinner. Food was fantastic, as was the service. I ordered the steak, and I would rank it in the top 3 for best steaks I've ever had. My wife ordered a chicken dish and loved it as well. The ambience was great. We started in the bar next to the restaurant, which had an equally great ambience. It was a little loud in the bar, but it was not an issue in the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place."

  • "Pricey for what you get. Food was good, don't get me wrong, but aside from our great server (Shirley I think?) what you get here you could get anywhere else on the plaza. I went for restaurant week with my girl and it's romantic but you're not truly facing the plaza, you face Ward pkwy and the drinks are definitely overpriced. I'd say spend your money elsewhere, this place won't last long."

  • "For something new, modern and classy , this is the place. This is a wonderful addition to the KC dining scene. The food is great but the decor and view are what really put this place over the top. I cannot wait to go back when the weather is warmer. The service was perfect, attentive but not too much. Also they have valet parking with makes it too easy. Ladies you can wear those super high heels and not need to walk far. This place also looks like a fantastic place for happy hour. We will have to come back for this. The hotel looks awesome. Next time we have some asking where to stay, I will recommend this place."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised with the service and quality of the food at Rosso. I had read reviews (for dinner) that were not favorable. Our server was extremely gracious, and the food was good. I had a Caesar Salad and Spaghetti Bolognese during Restaurant Week. Both were very tasty and the portions were generous. The venue is beautiful, and the view is great."

  • "A new restuarant try for us. A little hard to find but worth it. We requested a booth but got a tiny table instead near order area. But the server, Steve, was great. The food superb and the view just gorgeous. Really a great fund! Not happy about our seating request. Manager Mike made no apologies."

  • "I'm reviewing Rosso mostly because there are quite a few negative reviews out there and our experience contradicted pretty much all of them. The service - from the hosts and hostesses as well as from the entire wait staff and sommelier - was friendly, professional, and speedy. No snootiness, no attitude, no long waits, nada. The cuisine involves inventive takes on Italian-style food (n.b. we were there for restaurant week, so did not have the regular menu). Everything we had was fresh, very well-prepared, and delicious. (And we are picky.) Some dishes were better than others (have dessert!), but all were very good. Quantities were generous. Plus, as everyone has noted, the space is very special."

  • "We THOROUGHLY enjoyed our experience here, and we are foodies, participating majorly in restaurant week...The food was artfully presented, tastes were unique and of high quality. Service was attentive and informative...Pricey, but still good value because the food was so incredibly unique. Example: Burnt Rosemary Gelato...Really?? It was delicious! The view of Brush Creek is awesome, loved the glassed in flame fireplace. Decor was innovative, semicircular booths allow a side by side dining experience with a shared view out the expansive glass of the Plaza. Bring money, but we will be back! Great bar menu too for cocktails and small bites. Free Valet Parking! Not seen very often. Loved it!"

  • "Loved this place. Food was extraordinary. Everything on the menu sounded great, and the food we had lived up to all expectations. They offer to validate valet parking or parking in the hotel garage. The bar is beautiful, as is the big oval seating in the dining room. and the view is incredible at night. I can't wait to eat here again."

  • "My husband and I went to Rosso for dinner and loved the interior, the view and the drinks. All were outstanding! On the other hand, the food was just fair. My husband ordered the pancetta-wrapped chicken which he thought was ok but not the quality he expected for the price. On the other hand, I got the spaghetti and meatball. Spaghetti and marinara sauce were very good BUT the meatball was tough as nails and hard to manage on the plate. There is no reason for anyone in this town to serve and bad meatball! We will go back though just for drinks and that view."

  • "I had read a few negative reviews about Rosso but chose it for a birthday dinner after touring it during a Chamber event. I am very glad I did. To begin with, the venue is drop-dead gorgeous and has a terrific view. The bar adjoins the restaurant and was very lively at 6:00 PM on a Friday night. However, we had no problem carrying on our conversation. Our server (Rachel?) was knowledgeable and very attentive. The cuisine was what I would describe as Northern Italian with Midwestern panache. Each dish had a few unique ingredients or a different style of preparation, and pretty much everything worked. Each dish was beautifully plated. Our table raved about the Short Rib, Lamb and Saddle, and the desserts. A great night!"
