A favorite in the Cow Hollow neighborhood, Rose's Café is a hangout for locals who bask in the sun at sidewalk tables, duck inside for a cappuccino, or stay for a leisurely meal. Many customers are regulars who frequent the pretty bistro-café that offers table service and some of the most deliciously affordable food in San Francisco - Italian fare created using organic local produce, fresh seafood, humanely raised meats, and free-range poultry. Rose's artisan bakers bake a daily selection of pastries, desserts and breads. Menu highlights include: pizzas, daily soups and house made pasta. Accepting Reservations for Dinner Only! We had been looking forward to trying Rose's after all of these years. We were not impressed. My friend and I both ordered a chopped salad and chicken. The chopped salad was good but certainly ordinary. The chicken was so dry we could hardly swallow it....way overcooked. Also, the only other item on the chicken plate was a large handful of lightly dressed watercress. Not quite what I would consider a $23 entre.

On a recent trip to SF, we were looking for a good neighborhood spot, close to our hotel. Roses' Cafe was recommended and turned out to be a "gem"! Lovely atmosphere, reasonable prices & delicious food! The thin crust pizza was especially well done and the side salad was huge! We will definately return.

I really love this place. The food is consistently great! I have to remind myself to go there more often. It's so consistent. And the owner/manager (?), Howard, was wonderful. The waiter had forgot to dog-bag my left-overs. No big deal, but Howard felt so bad, he wanted to compensate me for the "loss." So he gave me some cookies, a brownie, etc. He didn't have to, but that was the kind gesture that reflects this place. We never felt hurried either.

Rose's is consistently great for excellent food in a casual setting; the menu offers a great mix of lighter fare as well as more substantial meals. Just the place for a quite dinner. Attentive service began will an olive plate, fresh bread and olive oil for dipping. This time I had the chopped salad with gorgonzola, followed by the braised lamb perfectly seasoned, coupled with a California Syrah. My wife had the skirt steak and Chardonnay. Always reliable. The cafe is great in many ways, but it is a bit crowded and , the night we were there, it was very noisy. I guess that can't be helped given the large parties that were there. We've been to the Cafe before and it is especially pleasant for lunch and brunch. Truly, a great neighborhood place.

We loved Rose's Cafe! The service was excellent and our food was well-prepared. The organic chicken, oven-roasted and served with an herb butter was a bit too greasy for my taste, and a very large portion for one. The watercress salad, served with the chicken, as well as the anti-pasti for 2 (beet salad), were my favorites. Our desserts were great: raspberry sorbetto and the midnight chocolate cake.We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants fine dining at reasonable prices.

I've been going to Rose's for brunch for years, first time for dinner. I made a reservation for seven, and called to verify they could fit our group. They said yes, but stuck us into a hot corner with a chair at the end of the table for the seventh person with no leg room. We waited for 15+ minutes for bread and drinks. I tried to get the waitresses attention a number of times, but she just glanced over and told me to wait. Finally I asked the manager but when he came over, the waitress magically appeared...not too happy and proceeded to roll her eyes and give us attitude the rest of the night. Also, even though it was only 7 p.m., they were already out of the ravioli. I'll stick to brunch from now on. When we got it, the food was good.

The food at Rose's was really enjoyable. Good mix of ingredients, well prepared, attractive and quite delicious. The service on a Thursday night was slow and the waiter kept apologizing. When we arrived for our 7:15 reservation a bit early, we were warmly greeted by a waiter. The maitre d' then came over and told us brusquely that we would have to wait at least 30-40 minutes for an outside table. The waiter then pointed out that we had a reservation and he apologized for his curtness. Since we hadn't specified an outdoor table, and didn't realize that we needed to do that, we did have to wait a bit longer. When we did return for our reservation about 35 minutes later, the maitre d' was in better spirits and almost solicitous. Would go back.

Rose's Cafe has become our 'go to' restaurant for lunch or dinner when visiting the city; especially when we are not quite ready for the hustle and bustle of downtown. The food and service has always been excellent; there is outdoor, heated seating for those days without rain; and the neighborhood is safe with street parking generally available within a block or two. This is a small cafe with a limited menu, but there is always a variety of food and wine choices to please any palate.
