Diner Reviews
  • "Our group of 6 dined here before the theater. Part of the group arrived earlier and were thrilled with the Happy Hour buffet. Food was good, we sat in the atrium area which was almost like sitting outdoors but better -- no noise, car smells and temperature controlled! The food was very good (Chicken Marsala -- let's just load up on a pail of the perfectly cooked mushrooms!) and the service was INCREDIBLE. Really. Our server was fantastic but our table was greeted by -- well, everybody! It was a great evening, largely in part to our start at Rosebud. Thanks!"

  • "While we had an energetic waiter who was almost OVERLY attentive, they did a good job getting us out in time for the theatre. The food was average at best. Also wasn't expecting the restaurant to be off the lobby of a large office building, so it was odd and we didn't much care for it -- although they did do OK trying to make it feel more intimate. Our table also was in a traffic flow from the kitchen and that was unsettling. For the price, I wish we'd chosen somewhere different for both better food and better ambiance."

  • "Recently had a biz lunch and food/service were great! Have been to Rosebuds for group dinners in past and they were very good as well! Will be back . . ."

  • "Dinner was lovely. We both chose to go with the Eggplant Rotolo which was excellent! We tasted several wines before deciding on one. Our server seemed to be new and didn't have answers to some questions however, the Manager on Duty, George, stepped in to help her (and we noticed every other table in the rest) so we didn't ever feel ignored. There was another sr. staff member that regularly came by to check in with us and was the person who recommended & delivered the Teramisu (excellent!). Rest was extremely noisy while the bar was full but when it emptied things quieted down. Would definitely go back! Valet pkg @ Rosebud Prime, $20 for Theater, $14 for dinner, Prime held our leftovers in a refrigerator for p/u after show."

  • "Everything was great, except the entree was served before my wife was finished with her salad."

  • "Very enjoyable meal after attending a concert at Millennium Park. We almost had the restaurant to ourselves as it was getting close to closing."

  • "13 of us dined here after a 2:00 performance at the Oriental Theater. They provided us wonderful service (hot server). Everyone loved their meal. And there we no complaints from the wait staff when they had to make up 6 different checks."

  • "This Rosebud restaurant is located in the heart of the theater district in downtown Chicago. They honored our reservations on time and made an effort to be sure that we were completely finished in time for the theater. As with their other restaurants, the food is plentiful and delicious. Every thing was prepared perfectly and served at the right temperature. In a city that has many fantastic Italian restaurants, Rosebud is always near the top. Every thing was perfect."

  • "Food was good, service was great, but the noise level made it difficult for the two of us to chat."

  • "A great meal with a group of friends. It started a fun night at the theater. Everyone raved about their meal. Thank you!"

  • "The food and the service were outstanding. But because the place was quite busy during lunch hour, the acoustics were incredibly bad in there. It was very hard to carry a conversation with my business colleagues."

  • "I'm not a big fan of the ubiquitous Italian restaurant scene downtown, so I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and value of the food at Rosebud Theatre District. The service was very good, as well. My friend and I had an excellent meal and stayed in our budget, even with wine. We will go back there again."

  • "Celebrated my birthday with my sisters before going to the theatre. Service was excellent. We ordered salmon, veal and whitefish and each entree was beautifully presented and well prepared. This was my first visit and I plan to visit again when I am in Chicago."

  • "I've been here twice with clients in the past month. What a great and delicious spot for lunch! Quiet enough for conversation, but still a vibrant scene. Will come here with clients and/or friends again!"

  • "I booked lunch here for myself and some colleagues from the east coast. They had gone to dinner the night before with another colleague and did not have a good experience (food was over priced and not very good). They loved the vibe and really enjoyed the food. Rosebud Theater District was a big hit."

  • "Although I live in Chicago, this was my first visit to Rosebud. We went after attending an afternoon performance of the fabulous, "Motown the Musical." Rosebud carried on the fabulous day. I ordered a special of eggplant rotello, which was light and delicious. Their tomato sauce is fantastic! My husband loved his order of a pork chop sausage combo with sautéed vegetables. The staff is extremely attentive. We could hardly take a sip of water and our glass was being refilled. The host and other employees came to our table numerous times to make sure we were satisfied with our food. I do have to say that the Caesar salad that we split before the dinner was just okay. When we asked for more shaved cheese, we got grated instead. "

  • "We enjoyed our meal at Rosebud Theater District. Food tasted great and portions were ample. Service was attentive. They kept the meal moving along though we didn't feel rushed. The restaurant was full & our reservation was at 5:45 on a Saturday, so I'd say reservations strongly recommended. The noise level is "energetic," as noted above, so I would not rate this as a romantic location. All in all, a good choice; I expect we'll return."

  • "A group of us from work wanted to go to a nice place for lunch so made a reservation at Rosebud. Our server Vinnie and his assistants took great care of us. Although the restaurant was crowded and probably would have preferred to be able to turn over our table more quickly, Vinnie's service was very appropriate - quick to take orders and deliver drinks and food, but not rushed at all so we could enjoy our meal and conversation at our own pace. We tried the stuffed mushroom, calamari, and bruschetta appetizers - the first two were wonderful; the bruschetta bread was a little tough. Everyone enjoyed the main courses which for our group ranged from pastas to seafood. All in all we really enjoyed our lunch and will return one day."

  • "If you can request Timothy...well worth it. We were running late and had to make a show. Timothy got us in and out with in 45 min. to this i thank you!"

  • "I took business colleagues to Rosebud, where I have been before. The restaurant bills itself as an Italian restaurant, but it's really American Italian, and I would compare it to other mid-range Loop locations. I had the salmon salad, which was well designed and prepared. I would love it if I wasn't always offered oil and cheese to dip my bread in - that's not Italian! Our server was very good. "

  • "We were headed to the Chicago Theatre and chose Rosebud. While they don't have valet parking at this location, they parked our car for a reasonable fee across the street at Rosebud Prime allowing us to leave it while at the show. In addition to going the extra mile that way, the food was some of the best that we have had, and we do love to dine out. The pasta and sauces were so fresh, I had the special Cajun Tuna that was out of this world! Luckily Rosebud physically transferred our leftovers to Rosebud Prime where we would be picking up our car. That way we were able to enjoy our delicious food the next day. Thank you for your terrific service throughout our meal and beyond. "

  • "We had a reservation for 5:00 pm on a Friday. Due to traffic we were unable to get to the restaurant till 6:00 pm. They were able to honor our reservation even though we were an hour late. The food was expertly prepared and delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and made sure that our food arrived so that we could easily get to the theatre for our 7:30 show. Would definitely recommend Rosebud and we will return. "

  • "Slow kitchen service, mistakes with orders at nearby tables, over-reliance on salt and typical menu make Rosebud uncompetitive with the new generation of Chicago restaurants."

  • "Rosebud is known for delicious Italian cuisine-always fresh and delicious-no matter which dish you choose. In addition, the staff are extremely professional, courteous, attentive, and friendly. This was a fantastic dining experience!"

  • "We have gone to dinner before the theater for years- and never realized Rosebd Theater District and also Rosebud Prime ( a Steak House) were within walking distance!! We found Rosebud Theater District through Open Table and loved our dinner! We went to the wrong restaurant first- because we drove by Rosebud Prime- hint for theater goers- you may park at this location for either location and walk to theater! "

  • "The table of 8 enjoyed every plate ordered. The sausage and pepper appetizer was wonderful and everyone at table had some - it was a meal. We also shared a piece of mile-high cake around the table - again large and everyone brought home leftovers - which were gret to enjoy the next day! Service was terrific - efficient and helpful with menu! We will be back. "

  • "Been here many times, food is always good. We all had something different so we had chicken , veal, pasta and everyone's meals were all prepared well and came to the table hot. Our service from Timothy was excellent! Haven't had such good service in a very long time. If you go ask if he is working and sit in his section, it was really good. "

  • "The service was outstanding from start to finish. We had a group of 6 and we're attending a play at the Cadillac Theatre and driving traveling an hour away in rush hour traffic. We we're late for the res and didn't think we would make the show if we sat down to eat.I called to cxl & spoke to George he said he had moved our res up for us and it's not a problem. After explaining our time constraint he reassured me that we would have plenty of time. He also arranged for us to have valet parking and storage of our left overs so that we would not have to throw them out. We walked to the theatre 2 blocks away and did not have to worry about finding parking twice. The food came out very quickly, was delicious and we had plenty of time to spare."
