Diner Reviews
  • "In town for a big conference and was sent here after going to Centro and Carmine's - all fantastic dining experiences but Rosebud Prime was stellar. Our waiter was fantastic and the food was mouth-watering and we couldn't finish it all.."

  • "Although it was a little pricey, the steaks and service were worth the price. The waiters were very helpful and added to the overall experience. They work through the menu with you so they can pick the perfect dinner for you while also not just trying to make you pick the most expensive thing. The music was a little loud sometimes but not too loud for casual conversation. Overall, enjoyed every aspect of the restaurant and would go back if ever in Chicago again."

  • "Our threesome started with the Caprese Salad with Seafood, enough to split three ways or have as an entree. Moved on to their special steak sandwich and burger. All excellent for a lunch."

  • "I have always eaten at Rosebud Prime on the weekend when the crowd ia ll about the theater. So I was surprised when it didn't empty out at 7:45! But the food was great, the service impeccable and the experience great overall."

  • "I love Rosebud. I'm gluten sensitive and never have to worry here I've been here multiple times with no issues. Food is amazing Our waiter was attentive and knowledgable Great atmosphere. I has strip steak, green beans and a wedge salad. Girlfriend had pork chops and asparagus Another had steak and cheesy potatos. Our waiter suggested an excellent wine. I had sugar free red bull, was surprised they had it"

  • "Incredible fish salad with shrimp, crab and scallops."

  • "This is a fair restaurant that real chicagoans would not frequent. Steak restaurants with great salads and sides are available at many fine establishments in the downtown area-this is overpriced and the meat was not prime. We frequent the plays and often stay downtown for the weekend. We will not be going back to Rosebud Prime."

  • "Rosebud Prime has become one of my favorite steak houses. It is easy to get to in the Loop, the service is great and the steaks are top shelf. This place is an easy walk from most theaters. Sides and desserts are very good as well."

  • "Was never a huge Rosebud chain fan....decent but never overwhelmed. Chose Rosebud Prime for a business dinner because of location and early seating (5:00). Was pleasantly surprised.... Waitress Cory couldn't have been better and nicer. Fabulous wine list and the filet might possibly be the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and like butter! There were 7 of us and everyone felt the same. Bosses were quite pleased with my choice...will definitely be back!"

  • "Chose restaurant for escargots, which was average. We had filet mignon which was not flavorful or tender for a steakhouse. We ordered mashed potatoes and mac n cheese, both with lobster, for sides and they were horrible. It was odd you could add lobster pieces or order it on a shellfish appetizer but not a meal. I enjoy good attentive service but the biggest turn off at this restaurant was continually being interrupted by different people. They were too quick to clear things off the table. I hadn't even gotten out from behind the table when a guy grabbed my glass from behind me and actually hit me while doing so. Keep in mind there were empty tables and no one waiting, so no excuse. Not a good experience and not worth $420 for 2 people."

  • "We went out for an anniversary dinner. I had the dry aged Delmonico and my wife the filet mignon. both were excellent. the service was great. I hate spending good money on a dinner and not being able to hear the person next to you. Rosebud's Prime is a nice place where a good conversation and dinner can be a real pleasure."

  • "My husband and I ate here before the theater. The food was good but not great. The steak was a little tough but flavorful. Sole was good as well but seemed overcooked. The service was great. It's a decent pre-theater place."

  • "Our server was extremely helpful as we had an allergy in our group. He ensured that everything ordered was safe for myself to eat. He recommended the perfect wines to go with our meals. I would definitely recommend going here for special occasions. We don't eat out very often but this was a memorable experience we won't soon forget."

  • "Asked for a private area away from the crowd for a business dinner of 8. They placed us on the balcony and luckily enough, we were the only ones there. Great experience and perfect close for the long day of meetings."

  • "They split our sides. Baked potato was a little dry. Peas were not remarkable. Filet and tuna were nice. Waiter made sure we were out in time for opera."

  • "This is a great place to dine. The atmosphere is so peaceful and the the food is delish. I frequent the location quite often!"

  • "Service was good to excellent. We asked for a quiet table for a business conversatin and got one. Food was excellent, probably should give an extra small container of salad dressing for the dinner salads (it was pre dressed which is fine) but an extra container would have been good. Bread is excellent at this location but should come back a second time to see if the guests want more bread."

  • "Delicious from beginning to end. Crab cakes, shrimp cocktail and bacon wrapped scallop appetizers excellent. The filet was divine--the most tender I've had in the steak food chains here in Chicago-and cooked exactly as ordered. The pomegranate martini was pretty tasty too! We were there for a celebration and the waiter spaced out a leisurely evening for us and was attentive but unobtrusive."

  • "Went for dinner after a matinée at the theatre. It was good. the steaks were done as requested and the sides were good. However, for the cost, the experience was OK. It is a big space and was not crowded, so it felt a bit empty when we dined. If you are going to the theatre and want steak, this is one of the few options downtown."

  • "The food was outstanding, our server was helpful, charming and efficient!"

  • "The steaks were cooked to our taste, perfectly. The dining room was a little crammed, each table is very close to each other, that would be my only criticism. The staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. Would fir sure go back again."

  • "What a beautiful restaurant. Food is fair and should be FAR better for the price. It would be nice if the kitchen communicated with the wait staff on items that sell out rather than finding out when your entree arrives. So I had a very pedestrian steak and 10 minutes later got a baked potato. Lone Star would not have even done that. Underwhelming food and service for a 5 star looking place. The valet is a mess as well so get ready to wait as some did up to 45 minutes. Go elsewhere until Rosebud figures out what they want this place to be rather than another watered down version of their restaurant offerings."

  • "I took the wife here on Valentine's Day. Overall, not impressed. First, we were taken to our tiny table, which was packed in closely next to all other guests. We paid a lot of money to hear the conversations of three other tables that were basically on top of us. The server did a decent job and accommodated us well. Also, our Crab Cakes were good. Sadly, this was the highlight of the evening. The side of Mac and cheese was below average. After tasting our filet mignon, I was really disappointed. Mine was medium as ordered, yet very dry. My wife's filet mignon was ordered medium, yet it came back half medium well and the other half well done and charred. We expected much more. Also, valet parking setup was a total disaster."

  • "While the food was not up to its hefty price tag, our waitperson was delightful, knowledgable and accomodated numerous dining questions and requests with ease and charm. In short, it was the service alone that made the evening meal memorable."

  • "My boss and I hosted clients at lunch. Our server was attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend the Caprese Salad with lobster as an appetizer to share or an entree for one."

  • "I've been to Rosebud Theater District quite a few times so I decided to try Rosebud Prime during Restaurant Week. I ordered the caesar salad, firecracker porkchop and the mango sorbet. The salad could of had fresher lettuce and more croutons than just 2, which is why I took a star away. For it being a simple salad, I didn't expect much but it was still part of my $22 lunch. However, the firecracker porkchop was so good!! It was perfectly cooked and I was glad I tried it. The mango sorbet was also very good. It was quite busy during the lunch hours so service was not as great. We had to remind our waiter for things, such as the tea that came with our dessert. Overall, it was decent service."

  • "Hard to go wrong with such great atmosphere, service and food. You pay for it, but it's lovely."

  • "Service better than food, in that service was beyond outstanding and food was good not excellent. It's a nice space dark wood and leather. I had a huge porterhouse and it was not quite as well done as I liked and the fat content of the meat a little high."
    Dined on 2/6/2014
  • "It's really unfair to judge any restaurant during restaurant week because they are so busy. We had to wait, even though we had a reservation. I have to say that the wait was worth it as the service was wonderful and the food delightful. Will definitely go back for dinner to enjoy a cocktail and wine with my meal."

  • "Highly disappointed as the service was unacceptable. The food was OK, but I would never go back there again."

  • "We went here for our anniversary before a show and had a wonderful experience. When I made the reservation, I mentioned our anniversary and also gluten sensitivity for one of us. There was a special table set aside when we arrived and both the hostess and the waiter made mention of our anniversary. I was especially happy that the waiter noted my gluten sensitivity proactively and was able to make suggestions on dishes and what they could to do accommodate me. The food was delicious (I had scallops and my husband had the bone-in filet). There was live music and the atmosphere was quite nice. The waiter asked about plans and how much time we had and then gave us plenty of time to enjoy the evening. I would most definitely go again"
