Diner Reviews
  • "Had eaten here many times but always outside. Was raining the night we were there so were seated inside, downstairs. Felt dark and gloomy to me. Would eat here again but only if I can eat outside."

  • "We split the tortellini and a salad. They were really nice about splitting the salad and entree table side. Food was good but not spectacular."

  • "Rosebud on Rush has always been a family favorite. This time we took our friends - husband/wife and three kids (ages 17, 21, 22). Everyone was delighted, including our Italian friends!"

  • "The best callamari I have ever eaten. Pasta as good as our favorite On The Hill in St. Louis Cuneto."

  • "This place has decent service, good food, and nice outdoor seating. The servings were huge and tasty. It wasn't the best Italian meal I've had but it's far from the worst. Plus the prices are great. 2 ppl including 2 beers, a salad, an appetizer and 2 entrees all for under $100. I can't complain"

  • "The food wasn't great and the service was horrible"

  • "When we go to Chicago we always dine at Rosebuds. Great place for good Italian!"

  • "I will make it short and to the point! Atmosphere was very nice, however food was underwhelming. Bread and olive oil were okay at best, and the dishes we ordered were so overwhelmed with cheese that it seemed the Parmesan based items came from jerry the mouse's dream kitchen. Not the greatest fan of Italian food and Rosebud was unable to change my mind. Would not come again."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "I ordered the fresh pasta with tomato sauce and pancetta. the amount of salt in the dish was absolutely disgusting. I barely ate any. When my plate was taken, I was not asked if I wanted to bring it home or why I ate so little."

  • "Went for my wife's birthday, because she said shed been wanting to try it again after seven years. The food was pretty good, but not worth the menu prices. The service was terrible, although they seemed like they were trying. If your going to spill my drink on my table, clean it up and get me a new drink. Don't just say "sorry" and turn your back on us to take another order. Mid-meal, we just asked for the check and got out of there. I left a 6% tip because the bussers have a lot of slack to pull up after that atrocious wait staff! and the large number of unfinished plates they have to carry. So sad. I'll be making up that birthday dinner somewhere else soon."

  • "Rosebud on Rush is a "must" every time we visit Chicago. Everything about the restaurant is outstanding...ambiance, service, food presentation/taste/portions. A must if you desire these types of things in a restaurant. See you next time, Rosebud!!"

  • "Service was slow and the spaghetti was bland. At best a $6 meal, certainly not worth $19. Won't be back"

  • "Three of us had lunch on the patio and loved the food and service. Great eggplant Parmesan , enough to feed an army. The only problem was the Friday afternoon gridlock and horn honking at the corner. They should have a light or a cop there. I think I might try a different day of the week for lunch."

  • "We wanted a good Italian restaurant within walking distance of Navy Pier and had heard good things about Rosebuds. We ordered two classic dishes- rigatoni w/ vodka sauce and spaghetti w/ meatballs- both were delicious. However, the restaurant was a little crowded for our liking and something we left behind was thrown out right after we left (it was a picture of us in a clear bag-- not something someone would have stolen). I think that the hustle and bustle of the restaurant distracts servers and bussers from noticing items left behind, but regardless, we were very disappointed to lose a keepsake from our trip."

  • "Our experience at this restaurant was a little conflicting because the food was delicious but our service was not very good. My mom wanted to have another glass of wine and our waiter never asked, or was even around to ask if she wanted another one. We also waited a very long time for our bill and to leave. It is a great restaurant but our experience could have been better if our waiter would have paid attention to us. He was attentive to all his other tables and seemed to forget we were there."

  • "good food good service perfect outdoor patio perfect location"

  • "There is no shortage of fine Italian food in Chicago and Rosebud has gotten it right. The food is delicious. The restaurant is packed. The portions are oversized and it is well priced and in a great location. My only annoyance was the noise levels. Unless you are speaking directly to a persons ear, you cannot be heard. The chatter is overwhelming like that of a school cafeteria."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Food was ok, nothing to write home about. Our waitress insisted on splitting the bill instead of us writing down each amount for each card to save her the trouble. I would travel a bit more to find better Italian food."

  • "We loved the hot and spicy calamari. It was so different. We both a whitefish with spinach and angel hair pasta. It was delicious and very filling. The staff was gracious and personable."

  • "My husband and I reserved a table at Rosebud on Rush resturant because it looked perfect on Open Table site. We were unfamilar with the area around the Westin Hotel, Chicago - off Michigan Ave. We couldn't have been happier. The menu offered a wide selection of brunch, lunch options. We had so much fun sitting on the covered patio area, outside & people watched. Great area, fantastic waiter & staff is friendly."

  • "Great Italian food for the whole family. My kids and husband were able to have their pasta that they wanted and I had a fabulous summer Fish salad. Lots of options for the whole family"

  • "What a wonderful restaurant! Delicious homemade pastas, service was attentive and the cannoli's were to die for."

  • "When visiting Chicago it is always a pleasure to dine at Rosebud. Great Italian dishes and consistent excellent quality. One or our favorites. And with a name like Primo Gigante I know my Italian."

  • "Loved the feel of this place, heavy on tourists (summer Saturday night) but felt like a local joint. Had a pasta and seafood special that tasted like they had prepared each ingredient individually--as every piece of fish and shellfish within the dish was perfectly cooked. Service was prompt, attentive and attractive... a good combo in a busy place where details could have gotten overlooked but didn't."

  • "We had a great experience at Rosebud on Rush. This is a solid value for for downtown Chicago. We arrived slightly early for our reservation and we enjoyed drinks in the downstairs bar. We were seated on time at a nice table. Place was very busy. We had an excellent server. Food was every bit as good as the Hill in St. Louis. Fried Spicey Calamari was outstanding! The palce was energetic and loud, but a good Chicago vibe. Bttom line- great meal and excellent service!"

  • "We came here so that my daughter could have gluten free pasta and she loved her entree, although it came without the chicken added as requested. (Waitress brought grilled chicken on the side once we pointed it out). I ordered the lasagne which was just ok. Waitress seemed tired and put out a bit by having to wait on anyone. Very energetic and noisy place; stereotypical Italian restaurant. With so many great Italian restaurants in Chicago I would probably try something else next time."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "We had a party of eight and the wait staff did an excellent job in taken care of us. This was surprising as the placed was packed inside and out. The food and wine was excellent. I would recommend and return."

  • "Made reservation via Open Table from Rosebud website which was very convenient and easy. We arrived 10 minutes early and our table was ready and were seated right away. Waitstaff was prompt and friendly. Food was great and we were out in under an hour. Overall, great dining experience for our family of 5."

  • "All of the Rosebud Restaurants seem to share a very important trait. They focus on making sure that the customer gets what they want. There is never any rush ("take your time" was repeated to us several times). When we wanted to split appetizers and entrees, there was no hesitation. As a matter of fact, our server even encouraged us to split entrees since we had enjoyed large appetizers. We never had to wonder if we would ever get any more bread or water as those items were quickly replenished. And of course, the reason one goes to the restaurant in the first place, the food, was delicious and well presented. Add in the fact that the prices are very reasonable and affordable and you have a great combination. Enjoy Rosebud on Rush."

  • "This has become one of my favorite places when I'm in Chicago"

  • "Rosebuds was a wonderful experience for my family. Their minestrone soup was scrumptious along with their marinara sauce they had on their food. Their portions are very large-so don't hesitate to share!"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Very disappointed that was not told in advance that highly touted fish special was $53- Much more than other entree's. The food and service were good, but I felt I was taken advantage of."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Good food and good wait staff. The wine list is also great. I made a reservation in the early afternoon for dinner and was given a great table. I plan to go back."

  • "First time in Chicago since 1986. Selected Rosebud from a number of recommended restaurants. Assume it was a poor choice rather than representive of Chicago."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "We eat at Rosebud a lot and this is the first time I have been disappointed. The ceaser salad dressing tasted bottled. I had a side of steamed asparagus and received four stalks and the waiter was disappointing"
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "This was our second visit. The first was lunch and this one was dinner. Both times our food was outstanding along with the wait staff being very attentive. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "It was a small group for a birthday and the servers were very attentive and helpful and the food was fantastic."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Looking for an intimate, ambient setting for a leisurely conversation over a great meal? This is not the place for you. Hectic, "pack-'em-in/move-'em-out" approach overshadows earnestly attentive servers and better-than-average food. Loud, loud, loud. VERY crowded and elbow-to-elbow seating. Food not all that. But, given the chaos they are forced to work in, the service was exceptional."
