Diner Reviews
  • "Visited Chicago with my teenager son and we decided this would be a good place to eat dinner based on it was close to our hotel and the reviews (Yelp/Trip Advisor). Made our reservation through OpenTable. Although a bit pricey for a teen, it was worth it! Great food. My son had never had veal and he love his veal parmigiana. Service was great, very attentive and quick with our food. I would come back next time we are in the city."

  • "The food and services was Excellent. The room was very loud so if your looking a quiet place this would not be the place. However if your looking for an active and lively spot with Excellent food and service this is the place"

  • "Excellent veal quality--tender and perfectly cut. Sauces are authentic and delicious. Server split Caprese salad table-side for 3 after confirming we were sharing. Ideally located on Rush one block from Water Tower. Sidewalk tables for warm nights. An authentic Italian gem in this tourist district."

  • "Reliable food, great service, and a comfortable fit make Rosebud a good choice. I've hosted business lunches, reunions with old friends, and family dinners-they always make my guests and me feel at home."

  • "Had a great dinner all the food was great...and bobby and brett Hull were at the next table....great all around dinner worth every penny....p,s,...veal parmesan was great..."

  • "Food was bad, service was worse. The waiter kept rushing us and even had the audacity to try and take the check from me as I was signing. I know the game is to turn tables but come on....I entertain for a living and this was just a complete waste of both time and money. Also, when asked about desert we asked what was good. The waiter shook his head and said they are not that good here. What a joke. This might be the first time I have written a review about a poor dining experience. I know the restaurant business is tough, but this place was ridiculous."

  • "We did not understand why everyone else loves this place. The bread was not very good, the mussels were puny with little flavor, the chicken piccata was dry, and the pasta sauce was lacking. Even the dessert of white wedding cannoli cake was only fair. A few years ago we had some good meals at Carmine's, which has the same owners. Maybe this was an off night for them or perhaps for us."

  • "Elana was wonderful. She knew the both the food and wine menu and gave us so many wonderful suggestions. In the end, we had the house made square noodles and spicy sauce and Veal Milane. Oh so good. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious, then she helped us stir things up by creating our own dishes. A must place to go."

  • "Very good food and the portion size was huge. I wish I would of known this ahead of time as we were not able to take leftovers wth us so we ended up wasting quite a bit of food. It was delicious. I would highly recommend. The downside was the Caesar salad was a bit bland"

  • "Went there for lunch on a Saturday. We had a reservation through OT, but they didn't see it on their computer. The person at the counter acted as though I made a mistake. strange. Our welcome was less than friendly. Our waiter was aloof. I felt as though we should apologize for being there. Our food was fine though we weren't offered parmesan cheese over our pasta dishes."

  • "Met our son in Chicago for his birthday weekend! One of our favorite dining venues. Never been let down. Highly recommend. Never know what famous person you can meet there too!"

  • "Tables are crammed together with literally little room to adjust your chair. Noise level was loud in spite of being near a corner. Waiter was terrific. We were not rushed through our meal which was appreciated. Portions are more than ample (They could reduce them by 1/3 and moderate the prices). Bread was only "fair". Caesar salad was large enough for 2 to share. Veal Fancese was excellent. Marsala sauce on the chicken was super sweet. Cannot recommend it. Overall a good experience."

  • "I live in Seattle but make a point of going to rosebud every trip to Chicago. Love the old Chicago feeling! You will have many choices to select from and will absolutely not go home hungry. Love Rosebud! Always introduce someone new to the restaurant every visit with success!"

  • "Rosebud is truly a first class Italian restaurant. We make it a priority to go whenever we're in Chicago. We have dined at two of their locations (Rush St. & W. Taylor St.) and both were outstanding. The sea bass was superb and make a point to try their eggplant salad. Highly recommended!!"

  • "Huge menu but mainly little variations plus the same several and usual sauces. Tasty but not memorable. Marinara excellent. Marsala light on flavor and a little too thick but generous with mushrooms. Fairly high prices but, as is normal now, large portions with some for another meal at home. Tiramisu quite good. Saltimboca was quite salty but the waiter instantly and pleasantly switched it. Good place for safe Italian food at a reasonable price."

  • "Food was amazing first the stuck us in a crazy corner but after saying we had requested a window table they immediately moved us!"

  • "Great authentic Italian. Large portions so go hungry. Outdoor patio heated and enclosed for the winter time. I like sitting downstairs. I feel it really gives a great ambiance and completes the overall great experience from A-Z."

  • "We had great experience! Friendly neighborhood couple offered to let us taste their chicken!!!! Serbian waiter Rad was AWESOME!! We had large group, tip was added and we had given him an additional tip. He was very honest and pointed it out! It made the experience that much better!!"

  • "We've eaten at Rosebud on Rush many times but haven't been to the restaurant in a few years as we live out of state. It was great to be able to come back and have the food and service be just great and consistent as always. We really love this place and cannot wait to come back!"

  • "I recently visited Chicago from Los Angeles and I took my Great Niece there for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was superb. I picked this restaurant because the concierge at the hotel I stayed at, recommended it. I don't see my niece very often and the dinner made it a memorable evening."

  • "They are very accommodating! We have severe peanut allergies and both waiter and chef made sure they understood the allergy and re-confirmed it during service. Very relaxing and our family favorite!"

  • "My husband and I went here since we had a couple of gift certificates to use. Overall, everything was really nice but the space is very tight and everything seemed very chaotic. The staff had everything under control and did not miss a beat, it's just not a relaxing dining experience if that is what you are looking for. Also, portion sizes are enormous! I recommend ordering an appetizer and splitting an entree. It's way too much food for one person to eat by themselves. We ordered dessert and probably ate 1/4 of it. The food is good - very traditional and standard for an italian restuarant. We would probably go back here if we had another gift certificate - but not sure we'd spend the money ourselves."

  • "With all the great places to eat in Chicago, don't waste your time here. No one in our party of four thought the food was better than average or less."

  • "Rosebud on Rush was great. I made reservations through open table. We did get the table by the window as requested and a birthday dessert without even reminding the hostess. Dinner was gteat as always."

  • "Rosebud on Rush is one of my family's favorites in Chicago. We try to eat there at least once during every trip we make to Chicago. The unique yet authentic Italian flair is what we enjoy most about Rosebud. We have never had a dish that we didn't love. We have had wonderful meals from both the regular menu and the daily specials menu and have been happy with our choices collectively. We ALWAYS start out with the calamari appetizer and the caprese salad to pass around the table. It's become a tradition!"

  • "During our three day stay at a nearby hotel, we ate at the rosebud twice for dinner and I went back once for lunch. My only recommendation is that if you order the brick chicken, share it with at least one other person. Seriously. The veal chop was delicious, the chopped salad was unbeatable. Can't wait to go back in a few weeks on our next trip in."

  • "No doubt this is our favorite place to eat in Chicago. Best food, service and hospitality you could ask for in a GREAT Italian eatery. We have been here over 50 + times and never been disappointed."

  • "The food was good but the way they had the tables set up for Valentine's Day was horrible. You literally were sitting with strangers and bus boys and waiters were constantly hitting your chair. They didn't offer coat check, so it was a tighter squeeze than necessary. This was our 10 year wedding anniversary, so we don't go out for Valentine's Day, we go out for our anniversary. I was disappointed by the seating arrangement and how fast food came out. The spinach was very salty but when I complained, I did get a new plate within minutes. I think downtown restaurants are for tourist but I had hope that it would be a nice meal. I will go to Rosebud again but not this location."

  • "My dish was so good! I ordered the chicken bracciole and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. It was a lot of food. My boyfriend and I both had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. The tables sit really close to each other so it's not the most private scene, but still quite intimate. The only thing that I did not like was that the table next to us and behind us sat down after us, but the waitress took theirorders first. However, she made up for it by bringing all the food out at the same time. It was a little pricy, final bill was $85 for two main courses, two glasses of wine, and tip."
