Rosebud on RushGreat, classic, "red sauce" ItalianRosebud on Rush had been recommended to us by several native Chicagoans. It was a solid, traditional, city, Italian experience: restaurant with exuberant guests (city natives, tourists, business travelers, all ages), staff doing acrobats to move through the crowded restaurant with big trays of food. Fun and energetic--not the place to go for a quiet dinner. A great place to have dinner with friends. We had a great time and enjoyed the classic "red sauce" Italian fare. Our waiter, Larry, gave prompt, personable service. Portions are very generous. Be sure to save room for the chocolate cake!

The cheesecake was so big, we thought there was some sort of mistake and they brought us the whole cake instead of just a piece! Dining with our teenage son can be interesting, but he immediately found a few menu items that interested him. We started with a double order of the seafood linguine and had the waiter divide it between the 3 of us as a 1st course. It was absolutely delicious! Actually, there would have been plenty for 4 or 5 diners as a primo piatto. Our salads and entrees were tasty....hard to go wrong with the extensive menu and great chefs. My only issue was the lighting, which was so dim I needed a candle to read the menu! We even requested a flashlight (which they could not locate). I sprung for three dinners at some pretty nice places around town and they said that THIS was the one that they liked the best. They absolutely loved everything about Rosebud on Rush. They loved the atmosphere and the special treatment (though I did advise the restaurant through the OpenTable comment section in the reservation process that this was a meal that was part of their honeymoon...so maybe that helped!). But they REALLY loved the food. I knew that this one would be a success as Rosebud is pretty much a Chicago tradition. Hit or miss.It's rare to encounter awful service here, although I hate to say it but the last time I was in that's just what I got. I immediately got bad vibes from my server for brunch.
