Rose Tree is trying to be an upscale neighborhood restaurant, but doesn't pull it off. The food is better than average, but not great. But the prices are higher than one would expect for the quality. The atmosphere is still a bit old and tired despite attempts at rejuvenation. Our waiter was very nice and tried hard, but not a professional waiter by any stretch. The mushroom soup was just luke warm. There was some attention to the main course presentations, but the taste and quality of the veal chop special ($40) and scallops were just average. Unfortunately (since we live pretty close), this restaurant will not be on our list of "go to" neighborhood restaurants -- places like Azie, Blue Pear, Brandywine Prime, La Porta, Ming Village Asian.

This was perfect for a cozy lunch with a friend. We could visit at length, the noise level was quiet and the ambience quiet and friendly. We enjoyed soup and an appetizer and a lovely glass of wine. We will definitely return!

Wife and I went here for our anniversary. The atmosphere was very nice, not to noisy, a live piano player in the background. We were very disappointed with the portion sizes on our meal, we each ordered the filets. There were hardly any mashed potatoes on the plate at all. We got no salad before our meal, just two pieces of bread. We split the dessert, and had we known how small it was we would have gotten one each. For what we paid for our meal, it just didn't seem worth the price. Our server was excellent and we enjoyed our night out.

My reservation was for 7 p.m. and there were only two other tables dining in the restaurant, yet they were out of the butternut squash lobster bisque soup, which was the one menu item I was really looking forward to enjoying. My friend ordered the beef tips over rice special and was told it was "like a stew." What she received was tough, salty beef over a few grains of rice. My other friend ordered the short ribs with "three onions, potato puree, brussel sprouts and burgundy wine sauce," and her short ribs inexplicably tasted like nutmeg and no onions were to be found. The potato puree was delicious.

The good: the food was terrific. The bad: everything else. The menu didn't match what was on the open table site. We waited 15 minutes to place our drink order and another 15 to get them. Total time in ... 1:45. No apps and no dessert. It will take a long time to forget how bad our experience was.

Went at what should be a busy time, and it was pretty much dead inside. More people at the bar than in dining room. It didn't really impact the experience though. Food was on point. Everyone loved all of their dishes. Surprisingly good beer list too.

Our experience with the Rose Tree Inn again was first rate. We are a group of women who have known each other for 60 plus years and requested a private area and round table so we could talk. Rose Tree provided as requested, service was great, food, drinks all delivered timely and we nearer were rushed. The staff, owners were friendly and very helpfull. Food was good. We will be back.

We were there on Sat night to hear the band. Outside was great. Only friends of band were there and very few inside eating or at bar. Something is wrong with this scene. Sat night and 6 people at bar??? Food was so-so. Need more finger foods s.a. chicken finger, mozzarella sticks, pretzel rods, etc Seafood salad tasted good but very small for a "large dinner salad". Burger was tasteless. Crab soup was great! Just not exciting!

I selected this restaurant for Father's Day because I was curious how the restaurant had changed with new management. We ate in a lovely updated room that represents a marked improvement from the restaurant's former (somewhat stuffy) incarnation. The service was attentive and gracious. The menu is broad ranging from lovely, sophisticated fish preparations to simple cheeseburgers, and thereby accommodates a range of palates.

  • OK deck opening

We RSVP'd and attended the opening of the Rose Tree's outdoor deck. It was a fixed-price buffet with beer or wine included. The food was hit or miss; for example, the pulled pork sandwiches, BBQ chicken and corn on the cob were great, but the pre-cooked cheeseburgers were hard and dry. It's a nice little deck, though, and it was a beautiful evening to sit outside. Our biggest complaint was the attention paid by staff to the only other tables occupied on the deck. The diners at those two tables knew each other, and were carefully attended by the wait staff and the cook. Granted, some of those diners ordered off the regular menu. But when the cook comes out to speak to everyone on the deck except you, you know you're not with the in crowd.

I picked out this restaurant because I needed a place that could accommodate 9 people for 5:30ish timeframe. Apparently there weren't many that could within 24 hrs. The menu online looked spectacular with a good selection. Sadly there was no kids menu but thats my fault for not asking ahead of time. The food overall was ok, but I was expecting better given the descriptions on the menu. The lobster bisque disappointed a few people who got it. My father got the steakhouse salad and the meat was very gristled. However my mother loved the chocolate martini. Overall not a bad dining experience. They were very accommodating to us having 10 show up for dinner instead of 9. The waitstaff was friendly and courteous, if at times a bit invisible.

Loved the new menu with variety such as sandwich sand small plates and entree salads. Would like to say it is less stuffy than the old RT Inn, but it still needs updating. Our chairs, of all things, were sunken in on the seat. They brought us pillows, but isn't that weird? They MUST be replaced! Waiter was so quick as to be difficult to hear and understand and never asked about more drinks. But the delivery time was great and everyone loved their food. I'll go back because of the menu and proximity to home with the hopes of do seeing improvement in decor . . . And new chairs!!!

Welcoming environment, attentive servers. Appetizers were interesting, delicious, and well prepared. Small bites entrees were also Interesting and delicious. I had tips and risotto. The risotto was almost non existent, a little more would have balanced the dish. The only very disappointing part of the meal was the dessert. I had creme Brule, which I love, this was the worst I have ever tasted, probably not prepared on site.

I was so happy they were open for dinner on Easter. Sometimes it's hard to find a place to go on that day. Our dinners were very good. The service was excellent. Our waitress couldn't do enough for us. She catered to our every need and was so kind and polite. As far as ambience is concerned, it's a great layout but needs a bit of a makeover. There is too much white- white wall, white tablecloths etc. That takes time and money, I know, but it would be well worth it. All in all we had a great dining experience and I would recommend this restaurant!!

We happened upon this restaurant by accident, and are quite happy we did. The casual atmosphere, good food and pleasant service made dining here a treat. In talking with the GM (David) he described how he's begun to remake the restaurant from its prior days as a white table cloth experience to a more modern and casual vibe. The paired down menu has a good selection of items to appeal to most taste buds. David has taken advantage of the floor plan by having one dining area with live music, a bar, and another quiet dining area, so you can converse with your dining companions. The food was well prepared and presented, with rather generous portions. The staff was very friendly to all patrons. We look forward to dining there again.

The food was very and the service stared out great, however by the end of the meal, we were given a desert menu and kind of forgotten. Our reservation was for 4. Three out of four of us ordered the broiled scallops with mixed salad over crabmeat. We were all delighted with the tastiness of this entree. One of the men was disappointed that no starch or other vegetable was served with this entree. The 4th person chose the pork chop with which he was very satisfied. He felt as though the serving of mashed potato and carrots was not adequate. He also had the corn chowder which he said was delicious. My friend & I split the Tilapia bruschetta which we thoroughly enjoyed. The ambiance was delightful with the warming light from the many fireplaces.

We've lived in the Rose Tree Media area for the past 26 years and have dined at the Rose Tree Inn / Restaurant several times over that span with varying results. It had been several years since our last visit so when we learned of the new ownership and general manager we decided to give it another try. We really wanted this to be great but unfortunately it's not great , YET. I think it has the potential to be. The Mussels appetizer were the best I've ever had! However our entree's were less than stellar. My wife's salmon was bland and my crab cakes were dried out. We did finish on a high note with an excellent shared brownie dessert. As I said, we wanted to love it but we didn't. But we'll be back!
