Diner Reviews
  • "the food is barely average. If you like average, you will not be unhappy. However, at $10 for the average salad - mixed greens out of a bag with some dressing, and mediocre entrees for $20+/-, it's just not worth it. Nice atmosphere, great service, but five of us had dinner, with only three glasses of wine total among the five and the bill was $150. Better food at the take-out counter at Whole Foods next door."

  • "My boyfriend and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary here and i must say we were so blown away! It was beautiful and romantic and our service was so great! The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. The wine was crisp and cool and light! And when we ordered dessert they even had put a special happy anniversary note on the plate with my cheesecake! It made the night so much more personal and sweet! 10 out of 10! we will be back soon I'm sure!"

  • "Our first time here. We were there early, so it was pretty empty. The Gaucho Steak was really good, altough the peppers over powered the flavor a little bit. Great wedge salad and beet salad. The wings were spicy and breaded, but very good. My wife really liked the scallops. We took a bread pudding home with us. It was amazing!"

  • "I made a reservation for my birthday and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. I ordered the Divers Sea Scallops, the sauce was outstanding and the overall presentation was great and the everything was cooked fresh. My friend ordered a simple Cesar salad and that was even great. The staff was pleasant even after I called multiple times to adjust my reservation."

  • "Our party of three found the experience most enjoyable. The food was delicious; dessert list was so tempting, we made room. My brownie (half - thanks!) with macadamia nuts & ice cream was heavenly - worth each & every calorie. Scott, our server, was perfect. And the plants were a delight to look at. My next email is to my niece, who heartily recommended the Rose Tattoo."

  • "The barmaid was not welcoming at all when we were only two if 4 people at bar! Our waitress was certainly not at all even concerned with us, it was as if she just wanted to out of there!"

  • "We loved the restaurant, especially the New Orleans feel of the place! We found that the calamari was the most tender calamari we had ever had, plus the three sauces, especially the remoulade was fantastic. We cannot wait to go back for a second visit. We were there early in the evening, before heading to the Barnes Foundation. This was a perfect place to go prior to heading to the Barnes."

  • "We had the mushroom soup, caesar salad, gaucho staek, salmon and the scallops. Everything was outstanding. The service was also great. I would definitely go back soon. A very reliable old time restaurant we hadn't been to in a long time."

  • "Looking for a place to dine with friends after a museum tour, I chose the Rose Tattoo Cafe based on other reviews. The restaurant was wonderful and the food delicious. I loved the mushroom soup. The restaurant is quaint and interesting on the inside, our waiter was attentive and friendly, all in all, a very nice experience. We will definitely return."

  • "We have been to the Rose Tattoo many time over the years. Always delivers good food with excellent service. There are usually two or three specials that keep it interesting. There will always be more than you see on the website menu. Good spot if you are coming from the Barnes or the Rodin Musuems."

  • "We decided to take our college son for dinner on Sunday and selected Rose Tatoo. We have been here several times before and always enjoyed the great food. We had a hard time deciding on what to order--we were given both the dinner menu and the lite fare menu and ended up picking items off of both. The crab au grautin from the lite fare menu served as a delicious appetizer for the three of us. I had the Salmon which was perfect, my son the filet and husband the tortellini. There were enough leftovers to send food back to the dorm. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. Don't forget to leave room for the yummy desserts."

  • "How wonderful to settle into your seat and know it will be a pleasant evening with delicious food. There were 3 of us and we took home enough for another meal. The only hitch? Service was a little slow but the waiter was charming...not enough to spoil our dinner. My vegetable ravioli was perfect, scallops for Sam and a vegetarian plate for Sophie thoroughly enjoyed. If they still have the pear cake definitely order it...yum."

  • "We took our foodie friends from Manhattan as we had spent the day at the Barnes. We all enjoyed the ambience, the service and were very pleased and a little surprised, by the wonderful food. Apps were nice portions and tasty and entrees were delicious. We would not hesitate to go back if museum hopping in the future!"

  • "I was a little skeptical when we pulled up to the restaurant but pleasantly surprised when we walked in. Sat at the bar before our table was ready. While waiting we requested a table upstairs and the hostess went above and beyond to get a table for us upstairs! The bartender was great! Drinks were very good! Food was outstanding!! Flatbread appetizer, salmon entree, shrimp entree, and desserts were incredible!!! I can't wait to go back!!"

  • "The food was good. The tacky Christmas lights need to go. It would have been nice if the shades were closed on the skylight as it was blinding at lunch. The food is what makes the place."

  • "Our favorite place near the Barnes as the food is flavorful, the wines are reasonable priced, and the service is friendly, but not intrusive."

  • "Ambiance is lovely. Our server looked like she would rather be somewhere else. Not very helpful or customer oriented. I expected food to be better. The pork taco was bland & while the sauce was spicy & delectable the tacos needed something more."

  • "I noticed Rose Tattoo on OpenTable when I was looking for a V-day reservation so we decided to check it out last week (we went somewhere else for V-day). The atmosphere is very unique and has a theme of New Orleans. Dinner was delicious and the service was fantastic! Glasses were always filled, they replaced our silverware for each course, and service was prompt!"

  • "Awesome food experience, great ambience for date night (although main dinning room was close due to lack of business), bar area a little cold but the music choice and friendly bartender Lauren made our dinning experience that much better!!!! Would definitely return on a busier night to sit in the main dinning room for more romantic ambience! !!"

  • "First time dining here. We picked it because it was close to the museum area we were exploring. Opted for an early Sunday dinner reservation, so we were among the first diners there. We sat on the upper balcony overlooking the bar area. With the live trees and greenery, it felt like dining in a garden...very unique and peaceful. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with answers and recommendations to our menu questions. The flatbread appetizer was very good and more than enough for 2 people to share. The crab that accompanied the salmon was almost a meal in itself. My husband enjoyed his jumbalaya very much, and the portion was enough to bring home for lunch the next day. We would surely go back to the Rose Tatoo when in Philadelphia."

  • "We started with the spring rolls and flatbread. The loud crunch and freshness of the veggies was an indication that the rolls were cooked to perfection. The flatbread for that day was also fresh and cooked perfectly. My friend's pear salad was different, but tasted very good. We both opted for a chef's special, the Chilean Sea Bass. It was out of this world. It melted on our tongues. We said what the heck and got desert too. Of course, the choc. macadamia brownie was chosen to finish a wonderful dining experience. We loved it!"

  • "I'd hoped Rose Tattoo would be more original. Everything we ate was good enough but nothing really surprised or delighted us. Portions were generous. In our group of 5 we chose as mains: bouillabaise, crab cakes and the gaucho steak as well as appetizer salads and calamari. Bread pudding and brownies for dessert. I had the feeling the kitchen prepares lots of things en masse with no dishes truly cooked to order. At this price point ( expensive) that was disappointing"

  • "My husband and I went to celebrate a belated Valentine's there on Saturday! I was very impressed by the atmosphere! Very intimate and is very swanky decor... almost like from the 20s. The music fit as well. We had a nice back corner spot, which was perfect as we hate to be right next to another table dining. The food is pricey but good! I rated it as "good" because the meat was amazing! (I got scallops and my husband got the filet.) The reason why it was just good, was because the sides were basic and nothing special. We'll definitely come back for the bar scene though as it is quiet and chill."

  • "We love this place. Its an absolute Philly gem. This is the second time in a month we dined and both experiences were perfect from service to food quality. Please The atmosphere is very romantic and unique. Staff is very knowledgeable of the menu. This last visit we had 2 delicious starters of Mussels(white sauce) and Calamari followed by the Gaucho Steak (MR) cooked perfectly! Last time we had the Lamb Special (MR) cooked perfectly. Please recognize Lauren and Scott our servers the bartender and the Chef for great service, great food and great drinks. We will definitely be back and recommend this little gem. Well Done!!!!"

  • "My wife and I went to dinner here and the food and service was very good. Ambience was nice, but we were placed in a back room near the upstairs kitchen area, so it was a bit compromised. Much better ambience out in the main room that encompasses the central bar area and on the balcony level that overlooks the main room - ask for it if you decide to go here. We'd definitely go back."
