Diner Reviews
  • "What a great place! Food was very well prepared and service was excellent. The owner Joe is hands on ensuring customers are taken care of. He even say and had a chat with use. Hard to find that level of customer care anymore!!"

  • "First there was plenty of on the street parking, second you could hear yourself think and have a conversation. The waiter was very knowledgable, he would tell you exactly how the food was prepared and you could make changes If you wanted to. The meals were fair sized and reasonably priced. Not a hopping bar scene for sure but that is a good thing!"

  • "This was our first time eating inside Rosal's, after picking up take out a few weeks prior and discovering how wonderful their service was we decided to go back. The food is good and the ambiance is also very nice and they probably have the most friendly staff that I have ever experienced."

  • "The overall service and food quality were great. The bread we received, while dining was hard to eat, the crust seemed burnt or over baked. It's those little things that can ruin a dinner."

  • "Have been a fairly frequent customer for the last 7 years. My daughters rehearsal dinner was held here 5 years ago. Disappointed in food and not family friendly with my 2 year old grandchild at 5pm."

  • "We had a great meal and a great time. There lots of choices and our waiter suggested a number of good things. The salad was imaginative and the pasta was perfectly cooked with large shrimp, garlic and olio. The wine recommended was great and the hot bread kept coming. A good home cooked meal that was well done is how we would describe RoSal's"

  • "Remodeled beautifully. A real gem in the heart of Taylor Street. Outstanding food and service. The fried raviolis are the best in the city. Menu has remained basically the same...varied and excelle"

  • "Wonderful food! Joe and Cyndi are warm, welcoming and appreciative hosts. It's always a treat to spend an evening here!!"

  • "Delicious meal, very large portions of old-world style cooking ~ Italian comfort food like Nana used to make! Staff was friendly & service was great. Not too pricey. The fried ravioli appetizer & white chocolate mousse dessert were both fantastic!"

  • "Not having been at RoSal's in over a year, we were looking forward to an outstanding dinner which had always been our past experience but unfortunately that was not the case. We were most disappointed. I had the veal and it was tough, dry and over cooked. The service was mechanical. One of the pasta dishes arrived tepid and timid. Overall, the group felt like the food had been sitting in the kitchen and then "reheated." I hope this was just an off night, but it was a Friday which should be top of the heap. It wasn't."

  • "I love the food here. The toasted ravioli appetizer is to die for! My only "complaint" is how small it is, but sometimes the upstairs is open and that's much more roomy. You can tell the food is fresh & everything is very rich and robust. Great dining choice for a date, not for bringing kids."

  • "Food was absolutely excellent. Veal saltimbocca and portobello fettuccine were highlights. Believe it or not, best dessert was their spumoni which I ordered for my son but I ended up stealing! Good selection of reasonably priced wines. Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, but also nice enough to come dressed up. Only knock was the service, which was admittedly earnest, but did not match up to the rest of the restaurant's qualities. First server was obviously new and untrained. She didn't know anything about the menu, and I had to ask three times for more bread and oil. Second server was rushing us out the door, and took said bread and oil away even as I was reaching for it. This was on a night where only two other tables were occupied."

  • "What more can I say...the best Italian food around."

  • "The food was very, very good. The portions were tremendous in size, almost like family size. The salads were also large and tasty. The tiramisu, which is home made, was delicious. This is a family owned business serving terrific food. They make you feel quite at home."

  • "Excellent Italian food in a great atmosphere. Staff is friendly and knowledgable and obviously love making people happy with food!"

  • "The service was excellent. But the prices where high compared to what we were served. The veal wasn't browned enough and the flour was still gummy and under cooked, and the veal. I had the shrimp dish that everyone raved about. But the cream sauce was so heavy, you could only eat a few bites. Thanks but no thanks. In a City like Chicago, you have so many wonderful Italian places, you can be picky."

  • "Was looking for an Italian restaurant with a varied menu the night before a half marathon and WE FOUND IT!!! There was a LOT to choose from and something for everyone on the menu. The food was delicious and really nice size portions...you won't go hungry. The staff are friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The owner, Joe stopped by to say hello and see how everything was. Can't wait to get back to Chicago and RoSal's for dinner!!!!"

  • "We could not wait to return to RoSals after the water damage occurred this winter and they closed for repairs. They are definitely back. The food, wine and service were excellent. I had the swordfish and my date had veal and both came out perfect. The owner Joe came to all the tables to talk to the customers and thanked each one. When we were leaving he came by again to say good night and thanked us for coming back. We took our time at dinner and there was no rush to make us leave. The owner and staff really want you to enjoy yourself at RoSals. I highly recommend for outstanding food and enjoyable evening."

  • "This was our first visit. Food was great as was service...could not enjoy ambience as they sat us on the 2nd floor...alone. No other parties dined while we were there. No other complaint other than that."

  • "The food was outstanding as was the service. Fried ravioli was out of this world. I would go back here everyday if we lived in Chicago."

  • "The food was great, slow getting the check because a big table came in that our server was waiting on as well and they all ordered complicated drinks so it wasn't his fault."

  • "My favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. Enuf said."

  • "Italian food is noted for fresh ingredients that taste as they are supposed to taste. The Broccoli salad was outstanding - a nice mix of vegetables and seasonings. Fresh, hot bread was abundant and served with olive oil, cheese and hot peppers. Our entrees were outstanding. The ravioli were light as feather pillows and sauced just right. My scallops with pasta were outstanding - fresh and flavorful. Lemon ice and cookies served as dessert which was capped off with a double espresso and a complimentary sambuca. A very nice dinner and expereince."

  • "We were in Chicago for a business trip and wanted some authentic Italian food and dining. The experience was wonderful. This place is very intimate; there are about 10 tables in the dining room with service for four at each table. Our waiter was great. He recommended a dry red for us, Chianti, which was perfect. The food was generous and authentic. We tried another Italian restaurant down the street the 3rd night in town, and the food didn't compare to RoSal's. Next summer while we are in Chicago again, I will be dining at this place again!"

  • "I was looking forward to a first visit to RoSal's for dinner with coworkers. The appetizers ordered weren't hot when they came to the table, and what was delivered was different than described in the menu. I had the veal special for the day and it was smothered in a mushroom gravy that was too much; the meat alone should have been the star on the plate but I couldn't tell because it had too much gravy on it. I left disappointed - not sure I'll return again."

  • "What an outstanding place tucked away on Taylor Street at the western end of Little Italy. Easy valet parking, friendly service and outstanding food. Don't miss the fried ravioli appetizer. Fried spaghetti entree is awesome and there's always the best eggplant in the city."

  • "Excellent food. Plates at the table included: family style salad (basic), grilled calamari, stuffed artichoke, Scallop special (mushroom, broccoli, scallop with oli'oli sauce, veal with a puttanesca sauce, chicken cacciatore and spinach ravioli. Plenty of food and could definitely share. Good service. Family atmosphere. Sit downstairs if you have a group of 5or smaller. Small, but good wine list. Will absolutely return."

  • "There's a reason RoSal's has been in business forever! YUM! Try any dish or order off menu! The chef will accommodate (except for anything containing anchovies!) Ambiance is classic, if a little cramped, but service is attentive, knowledgeable, and polite. I'd take guests from out of town in a heartbeat. Thanks!"
