Diner Reviews
  • "Our table had three different entrees from their extensive menu and they were all excellent! Wine is affordable as are mixed drinks. This was our first time back after their remodeling, service was a little slow that night (not sure if it was because we were sitting upstairs) however the atmosphere was pleasing and relaxed."

  • "The food was excellent!!! This winter was tough but RoSal's being closed due to a frozen pipe that burst made it even more unbearable! So happy they have now re-opened and everything was as delicious as it always has been."

  • "Our group of 7 had a little bit of everything. As always the food was excellent. They have the BEST stuffed artichoke in the city; gnocchi as well. The meat lasagna is actually meaty... not just an afterthought in the sauce. Meatballs are full of flavor, cooked through but never dry. The place has been redone and looks great. Only complaint is that our "little neighborhood Italian place" where you could always get a table has all grown-up. It used to be a great secret spot. Now there's a bunch of suburban swanks with imported cars hording seats that used to go to the locals. ;)"

  • "Went here on a recent Saturday evening. We sat upstairs as they were already full downstairs. It was quiet and the lights flickered every once in a while. Odd, but nothing major. Food was excellent, the server was attentive. Not much ambiance, but the food is the star here."

  • "RoSal's reopened and did it well. It was nice to see the place back in business but sure do miss that garlic as it consumes you upon opening the door! Once the paint absorbs the scent of all that yummy Italian goodness, it'll be the New old RoSal's!. Until then, the food was still fresh and tasty. The menu had the old favorites. Still too early to have specials as it was the 2nd night they had been opened since the reno... Excited they're back and still have the same neighborhood feel."

  • "My wife and I have gone here twice and have yet to be disappointed. The food is incredible, the homestyle yet elegant feel of the place is really nice and service is top-notch. I could gush about this restaurant forever but I'll just say that if you're looking for high-quality Italian dining in a small family-owned restaurant then this is a place that you HAVE to try. I'd be surprised if you're not taken by RoSal's."

  • "We ventured out when it was extremely cold in the city, but Rosal's was not only open but the food was awesome! I always enjoy dining here because no matter what you order, it tastes so flavorful! Anything on the menu is worth trying but I am going to try to the pan-fried spaghetti next time!"

  • "I love this Restaurant and I try something new any time I go and I have not been disappointed. RoSal's is a definite must go to restaurant if you have never been. The food is AWESOME and the service is great. Joe Falco, the owner, is a wonderful person. He greets everyone who comes in as if they are family and he has known them for years, which is just an added bonus to a great food, friendship and fun."

  • "My husband and I have been there 4 times since summer and enjoyed each visit! The first time the two of us enjoyed a lovely time on the cosy main floor. Our server was wonderful as was everyone we spoke to. Very friendly staff every time we've been to RoSal's! This last visit we brought our children and 2 young grandchildren. We we're put upstairs where we were the only guests for most of our visit. It was great for the little ones and we didn't have to worry about being too loud for other guests. Our server was once again very friendly. Only complaint would be we weren't impressed with our cocktails. Not sure there's a designated bartender. No biggie for us, that's not why we were there. We go for the delicious food!"

  • "I had been to Rosals years ago and remember the food behind delicious ans that's why we chose to go there New Year's Eve. Things have changed. The tomatoes on the caper se were tasteless, the shrimp in my pasta was rubbery and my dessert tastes like it had been made a week ago. Service was average and it wasn't vert crowded considering it was New Year's Eve. The best part was my martini which were actually quite good. Don't think I will be going back anytime soon"

  • "On New Year's Eve, the owner greater our group at the door and made us feel like family right away. I felt as though we were in an extension of his home dining room. The whole service team was quite friendly and efficient. Amongst the table, grilled calamari, marinated mushrooms (Yum!), agnolotti, chicken, and salmon were ordered. Each dish had its own special flair, yet was simple enou to be cooked by your nonna. We will definitely be back!"

  • "My husband and I came down to the area to go to a concert but had shockingly good traffic (never happens!) and ended up about an hour early for our reservation. We were meeting another couple, so we couldn't just eat early and go. We explained our situation and they encouraged us to wait, sitting at a four top. We did end up drinking a bottle of wine and eating an appetizer while we waited so they made some money, but they didn't know that we'd do that when they sat us and they were super nice the whole time."

  • "Rosal's has really good lasagna, great appetizers, and most of the dishes were excellent. I would not recommend is the gnocchi. I've been to Italy and gnocchi has become one of my favorite dishes. Unfortunately, Rosal's gnocchi doesn't have that "melt in your mouth" consistency. The pieces are too big, making them chewy rather than succulent. There was also very little sauce on all the dishes. Service - just ok. You go to a restaurant like Tuscany and they are lively, energetic and always sure to put a smile on your face. Our waiter was hard to find, would leave us alone for 20 minutes at a time, and we found ourselves waiting for drink refills for nearly 15 minutes...not a good way to keep a group of late-twenty year olds happy."

  • "I have been to RoSals on numerous occasions, and I have never been disappointed. The restaurant is cozy and romantic, the food is always delicious, the wine list is good and reasonably priced, and the service is outstanding."

  • "Family owned, family feel. Quaint gem on Taylor Street! Big portions. Fried spaghetti is my personal favorite. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a great meal, great price, and want to impress with food and not pretention. Staff is helpful and attentive."

  • "As good of food as there is on taylor street. Server knew entire menu and able to intelligently describe selections to help choose what we liked."

  • "The place is decorated like an old neighborhood Italian restaurant. Tables are not too cluttered and service was good. Bar is a little lacking. Food was decent with big portions. Prices were average for the quality and quantity of food."

  • "I thought it would be fun to celebrate my mother-in-laws 94th at Rosals, which we did and the food was awesome, but at the start, I told our wait staff that I understand they are known for their family style, and he agreed. So we went ahead and ordered 4 entrees a large appetizer and 3 salads for 6 to share. We also had dessert and coffee, when the bill came there was an additonal charge for 2 "split" entrees. When I asked the waiter he said it was policy. I countered by saying we were interested in family style before ordering and that would have been good info to share at the start. Communication is key, and if they are going to charge for a split or shared entree then they should actually bring out two dishes, vs. one and extra plates."

  • "We went to RoSals to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and had a wonderful experience. It was a very rainy night so we really appreciated the valet service as parking is a little tight in the Taylor Street area. Linda, our waitress, was as attentive, efficient and sweet as could be. She did not hover around us but was always right there when we needed her. Our wine was very good as well as our appetizers. We ordered the fried ravioli, roasted red peppers and a caprese sald. All were excellent. I had the rigatoni with plum tomato basil sauce and artichokes, which was unique and also very good. My friend had lasagna and said she really enjoyed it. Loved it. All around we had very good experience and would certainly return."

  • "Our entire table of 4 thought the food was bland and not up to the "billing". None of us really cared for our dishes and we all had something different. I thought it would be more like a home cooked meal made by my grandmother and it didn't come close. We won't return."

  • "Looking for a place to have a dinner with some friends, tried RoSal's and now I'm hooked. Will definitely return. Food was good, portion sizes great, and atmosphere - well put it this way, if I closed my eyes I could easily be in Italy!! Love it."

  • "The food here is incredibly good, and it's reasonably priced compared to others on the street. The only thing that was disappointing is the waiter didn't ask if we wanted any appetizers, soup, or salad. Our table was so busy talking that we didn't even realize, and it just seemed like a long wait for the food since by the time we realized. We didn't want to end up shoving food down quickly so just ate the main, and bread, but if the waiter had asked us, we all would've probably ordered a soup or salad, and possibly an appetizer."

  • "Went to Chicago for a conference. Wanted to go out to dinner with a group of friends we haven't seen in a while. couldn't get into some of the "hot spot" restaurants and found RoSals on both Zagat and Opentable. We were not disappointed at all. the homemade raviolis were fabulous, the red sauce couldn't have been better. Great place to share dishes with friends. the noise level was great for conversation and the staff was as nice as can be. For the money we paid we couldn't possibly get a better meal. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Chicago."

  • "Love Rosals. Small imitate restaurant with feel of Italy. Food always comes out fresh and hot. Not your chain restaurant. We are never disappointed. Expect about 40 minutes once you order dinner. Everything is cooked when order and worth the wait. Highly recommend."
