Diner Reviews
  • "This is our 5th annual Mexican Seder at Rosa Mexicano. This year the menu was particularly excellent. Service was fantastic and the ambiance was fun and lively. We will be back next year (and certainly again before Passover!). Thanks Rosa Mexicano for doing it right."

  • "I've been wanting to go to Rosa Mexicano for years and it actually lived up to the hype. The famous guacamole was as good as I'd imagined it would be (which is rare) and the entrees were delicious. I got the pork tacos and my husband got the beef short rib enchiladas and both were fantastic. Even the rice and bean sides were noteworthy. The service was very attentive and very quick. I would definitely go back again."

  • "Carne assada very chewy; should have been tenderized much, much more. Guacamole superb. Waiter superb. Disappointing main course, but willing to try again. Keep the beef something other than the chewy"" low-grade Safeway quality." Chris Parlin."

  • "Rosa's is a fun place to catch a meal before an event at Verizon Center, or just for the great food and drinks anytime. My favorite drink is the sparkling sangria, made with Spanish cava, their version of champagne. The gaucamole is very good, and quite a show as it's prepared tableside."

  • "We ate here prior to going to a Caps game and everybody enjoyed it. We had made reservations, which I reccomend especially for a group. We were seated right away and the service at the begining of the meal was fairly prompt. We did get the table made gaucomole which was excellent. The food we ordered was pretty good too, I had baja tacos which I would def get a again. The service kind of fell off towards the end of the meal but that's ok."

  • "Been to this restaurant 4 years ago and request one in Miami . Service and food quality has declined significantly. Will not return to this DC restaurant again."

  • "Our meal at Rosa Mexicano was terrific, with guacamole prepared at the table to start and a grilled chicken dish with a spicy rub and excellent accompaniments of peppers, onions, corn, rice and black beans. The red wine sangria was also unusually good. Best of all was the attentive and professional service of our waiter Javier, without whom we'd never have made the Shakespeare Theatre, about a half-block away, that we headed to after our meal."

  • "I took a date here the other night before a Caps game. We found it to be a great location, the food was good, guacamole amazing, it was a little loud but otherwise a solid date location."

  • "Guacamole starter was prepared table side - fresh, creamy, and tasty! Waiter asked our "spice level"and followed through with the dinner choices. Chicken enchiladas were served with a yummy sauce. Loved the family style rice and beans - although the black beans were more soupy than side dish. Unfortunately the dining room was so loud that we had to occasionally shout to each other while conversing at our table for two. All in all, a nice meal!"

  • "If you're in the mood for guacamole, this is the place to get it fresh and customized from the cart. Varied menu - something for everyone - mild - to spicy. Save some room for dessert. Great for all - young and old. Nice buzz about."

  • "This was our third time at Rosa Mexicano. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation and we were seated immediately. Waitress seemed very stressed. The noise level was just way too high, and it was difficult to have a conversation. Drinks and food were excellent as previous visits, but we were there twice for lunch previously and I don't remember the noise being a problem."

  • "A different menu for a Mexican restaurant. The food was good and the location - across from the Verizon Center - great for dinner before going attending an event there."

  • "The food was excellent, albeit a bit pricey. Loved the guacamole being prepared table side. I assume because we reserved with Open Table they saved us a beautiful table by a window away from the bar so it wasn't as noisy. It's a very enjoyable, bun place with good food--not just the typical Mexican taco."

  • "Guacamole was good as usual. Entrée was a bit salty."

  • "Consistently good food and service Rosa Mexicana never disappoints. Guacamole is always exceptional and the restaurant is always busy. Best make a reservation if you don't want to wait."

  • "Rosa is a great place to pre-game or post-game for Caps or Wizard games. Good drinks, apps are good. I would say the food is ok, not great. However I have had some meals that are great (Dinner the short rib is great). I had the fish entrée, and it was not what I was craving (Grilled Fish Tacos)."

  • "The food on our recent visit (Thursday 27th March) was the best ever. We had the guacamole (always good) followed by entrees of fish tacos with corn on the cob covered in a delicious coating and grilled salmon resting on kale and a green sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly "medium" i.e. cooked through yet extremely moist and delicate. Also our server was quite good and even did a good job getting us our bill and taking payment in time for us to make our theater date. (This has not always been the case.)"

  • "We were in DC celebrating our wedding anniversary. They paid attention to the notes on our request. We had a great table, perfect food and excellent service. It was loud but still fun. Thank you for such a great experience. We will be back."

  • "I requested a quiet table for 4 and was seated in the middle of the noisy diming room, on a service aisle, next to a large table of noisy Caps fans. Since it was 6:45 on Saturday, I was glad to get a table right away so didn't complain. The waiter made a mistake on one drink order. She did not write anything down and did not appear to be paying much attention. Generally, service was inattentive and brusque. The staff that was apparently supposed to refill water and bring more chips was largely absent. The restaurant met my minimum requirement -- they got us in and out in time for our theater show and the food was surprisingly good, given the expectations set by the service."

  • "Our reservation was for 5:30 pm. I got there about 10 minutes early and was surprised that I was able to be seated. My friend arrived at 5:30 on the nose, and before she even had a chance to look at the menu the waiter was asking what we wanted to drink. That basically set the pace for the entire dining experience. We each finished our drinks (1 apiece), split an appetizer, had our food, looked at but did not order from the dessert menu, and paid our bill by 6:15. It was a whirlwind experience, but not in a good way. We really can't remember that much about the food because we felt so rushed throughout the whole process. A family of 4 two tables down from us was in and out even faster! Slow down and let your patrons enjoy the experience."

  • "For the price we spent at dinner, we definitely deserved a better meal. The guacamole wasn't bad but the short ribs weren't good. The portion was way too much and didn't have much taste."

  • "All good, except Carnitas were salty. Table made guac, margaritas and mahi mahi tacos, all awesome."

  • "Rosa Mexicano hit another home run with my wife and I. One of our favorite restaurants in downtown. The food was fantastic, and wait staff was excellent. Fast service but not too fast, and a fun place to spend the evening. Oh yeah...and the guacamole is superb!"

  • "Decent Mexican food, great guacamole (prepared table side), but noisy and full of tourists with sometimes less than well-behaved children. And outfits worthy of South of the Border. I just moved here and see no reason to go back to this outpost of RM."

  • "Was very impressed with how quickly and accurately the food was served; it was delicious as well (chicken enchiladas). I was going before a game at the Verizon Center and kept in the back of my mind the possibility I'd run late because we all know how getting the check/meal goes sometimes, but the service was impressive. Will definitely go back! Great ambiance, for dates, a group of friends, or families."

  • "Food was good. Service was slow. Prices were expensive. We were seated next to a table with lots of kids and no adult supervision which made it unpleasant."

  • "As always, my guests and I had a great lunch at Rosa!! The food was excellent and our server was attentive and knew what to recommend! I particularly love what is offered on the gluten free menu!"

  • "The restaurant has changed management and this restaurant was one of my favorites to dine at, however, they have taken away alot of the lunchtime dishes and having little to choose from. The food was good but I don't think I will be going back because of their new smaller menu."

  • "Very beautiful restaurant with great ambiance. The food was great especially the guacamole which is made fresh tableside. The wait staff was pleasant. The only complaint was that the food portions were very small for the price. My friend agreed that it was a bit pricey for the amount of food you get although it was well prepared."
