A word from Rosa Mexicano - Union Square
Just blocks away from Manhattan’s lively Union Square, our third New York location provides a warm and vibrant setting for our award-winning authentic Mexican cuisine. Designed by David Rockwell, the restaurant features architectural accents inspired by the late, famed Mexican architect, Luis Barragan. The internally illuminated electric-blue tiled water wall features cliff diver figurines and candles among the cascading water to separate the bar from the main dining room. Warm terracotta and yellow colors with hot pink accents are featured throughout the restaurant as well as traditional, one-of-a-kind Mexican crafts, fabrics and artwork. This combination creates the perfect backdrop for the festive atmosphere and innovative Mexican cuisine of Rosa Mexicano. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Second year going for Passover dinner. Excellent Menu, outstanding service. A bit noisy but that is the routine these days. Back later this week with friends "

  • "Nice looking restaurant. First time at this location. Have eaten many times at the first avenue location. Went for my birthday with my family. Our waiter was inattentive and forgot many things that we requested. The food was only fair. Although known for their guacamole, I found it lacking in flavor. The chips were stale and it took 20 minutes to get more. The red sangria was tasty and refreshing. That was the only part of the meal that I enjoyed. Will not be returning here any time soon."

  • "I take my fiancé's family here everytime they are in town. We always get the double portion of guacamole, margaritas and cocktails, and an entrée. We're usually too stuffed for dessert. The food is always fantastic. The margarita was a little too sweet for my taste this time, but that won't keeping us from returning. Highly recommended."

  • "Food was served cold and they failed to follow allergen requests"

  • "This is mexican dining at its best! Everything excellent that you have heard is true. The food was beautiful and tasted even better. The service was superb. If you are going on a busy night, I suggest you make reservations in advance."

  • "My friends and I had a fabulous dinner at the Union Square branch plus our waiter was super friendly with nothing being too much trouble. I add this because I have a ton of food allergies & requests were adhered to (the food I was allergic to was placed 'on the side' in separate dishes so that my friends could enjoy the dish as advertised without making me ill.) We had the guacamole & this was served with crisp tortillas & a little plate of warm flat bread. Yum Yum. In hindsight I would probably order another starter rather than a main course - not because it wasn't delicious - but because my eyes are bigger than my stomach! We each paid $60 including tax & tip which I thought was good value considering that we had two cocktails apiece!"

  • "If you want very good Mexican food and delicious Margaritas in a lively, fun atmosphere, this is the place for you. The menu offers a variety of choices and the Guacamole is delicious. I had Beef Enchiladas made with pulled short ribs that were tender and very tasty. My husband had Duck Tortillas which he said were delicious. The drinks are always out of this world and generous. The Sangria is also quite good. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you of fond of Mexican Cuisine."

  • "My favorite Mexican food restaurant in the city. Great atmosphere and the best guacamole around, made fresh right in front of you!"

  • "I revisited RM since having eaten here at my last NY-visit 2,5 yrs ago. I especially remembered the amazing guacamole and it was as great this time. Great cocktail mojito and dito pulled beef enchiladas."

  • "Really no complaints with this restaurant with the exception that if you bring your children, do make sure they're well behaved. The food was great, service was lovely, hosts were fab too. The manager even visited the table which as a nice touch. Tad pricey but not indecent. It's not easy finding good Mexican food in NYC so I will definitely go back for more."

  • "Everything was great... Except the rain outside. Jamie, our server, was attentive but not overly (just right!), pleasant, happy and very very knowledgeable about the menu. She did a great job helping us pick the perfect dishes for our table. Donna, I think a manger of some sort, made us feel welcome and was just the friendliest person. The chef, kitchen staff, guacamole folks, bus staff, and the rest of the staff ... All amazing. It was a well run establishment and that has to start with Donna and flow down to the rest of the staff. I wish I had something bad to say but I don't. It was just amazing."

  • "First time for me and my girlfriend. It was our 5 year anniversary and I decided to take her there, I requested seats next to the waterfall wall but did not get them. Which is understandable, considering there is only really 10 or so next to it. We got seats at the back addition of the restaurants and although the addition is not as nice as the front of the restaurant, it was still pretty nice. Food was awesome, both her and I enjoyed our dishes very much. Drinks were strong! She got tequila and mango (I think) and I got the frozen pomegranate tequlia (small, but good and strong). One con, the tables at the back of the restaurant are practically placed INCHES from each other, GO FOR THE VERY BACK WALL, most space!"

  • "2nd time here, was late for my reservation but the hostess got us a table in 10 minutes!. Great food, nice staff. The sangria didnt have enough alcohol though."

  • "My two friends and I went to Rosa Mexicana at the Union Square location. The three of us ordered the DOUBLE order of guacamole and ate the bowl to the bottom, as usual. Note that the bowl should serve 4-6 and we eat it all every trip and the try to eat our meals also. I just love the food and drinks there, but it is very loud. The staff are very accommodating, one of my friends was late for our 6:30 reservation and they were able to seat us at 6:50, with a smile. Portions are small for the price but the food is delicious. For a great meal, just make plans for Rosa Mexicana!"

  • "This is a good mexican food place. The food was great and the prices are reasonable. The waiter gave good customer service and was polite. The atmosphere is beautiful and the restaurant is spacious. Defiantly going back!"

  • "The only thing appealing to this restaurant is the guac that's made in front of you. The food is pre made so you cannot customize it and it comes out too quickly like it was sitting in the kitchen.. ie if you have a dairy allergy and say no butter on the fish or nothing spicy, be prepared to be disappointed. The drinks weren't even that good. I sent two different drinks back because they tasted strange."

  • "The food was simpy spectacular. A very busy spot but there is a reason. Their refried beans, guacamole and enchilada's are amazing. Enjoyed every minute of our dinner."

  • "Had a craving for guacamole and they make it here right next to table and it doesnt let you down, it was excellent and so were nacho appetizers. Empanadas were pretty good. Had group of 9 and everyone was happy with their entrees. Place is big and has great vibe to it. Service was excellent. Desserts were delicious also. Mexican donuts( churrros) with dipping sauces and flan were outstanding."

  • "Perfect place to dinner with your friends. You have to try the guacamole, which is made by the waiter next to you! Kind service too! I hope to come back to NY and I'll go again to Rosa Mexicano."

  • "We were very disappointed that when our entire group was present (4 people) we went to the hostess (exactly on time for our 7 pm reservation) and we were told that no tables were available and that we could wait for a few minutes. I have never waited more than 5 minutes at any restaurant where I had a reservation. We waited for 27 minutes until the buzzer rang. I was very disappointed with that. One thing that I liked was that there is a gluten free menu. One of my friends is gluten free and that was great for her. We waited for a long time to order our food. Our waiter was distracted. We requested a gluten free menu and he never brought one. He came back approximately 10 minutes later and we were very hungry by that time. Also very loud."

  • "We went to dinner for my friends birthday. The hostess was very nice and quickly sat us to out table. We had a reservation on a Wednesday around 8pm and the place was packed. The waiter was friendly and took our drink order. The sangria was fabulous as usual and my friend enjoyed her skinny margaritas. We ordered guacamole which was perfectly prepared tableside. After mulling over the menu I was torn between the short ribs and seafood enchiladas. I went with the waiter recommendation. . . I was highly disappointed as my short ribs were dry and overcooked. I barely at 1 out of 3. My friend really liked her fish tacos. The were presented nicely with delicious accompaniments. Overall okay but left me longing for well prepared short ribs."

  • "The fresh guacamole is so GOOD. And the General Manager (Donna) made our experience really pleasant and the food was great. The white sangria is the better choice."

  • "Chose to have lunch (had dinner there before). Pretty place. Overall treatment to remind you that you're at a special place. It wasn't crowded but the server was fast and came to the table often until we paid. Fun to have the guacomole made at table (it was suggested but our choice) the food itself was ample in portion but not exceptional. Not any better than your local Mexican restaurant. No one was waiting for our table so after the check came no one bothered us and we could sit and talk."

  • "I have heard about this place for a while and wanted to try it out for months. I saw it onthe restaurant week menu list. My boyfriend and I like mexican so we had to try it. We can it..we couldn't believe how big it was..great ambiance. Server was excellent. We ordered flautas guacamole n steak skillet. Everything was sooo good. My bf ate everything off his plate and some from mine. We will def be back it was delish. Good thing we cam when we did cause it started getting very busy."

  • "From the outside you wouldn't be able to tell how large the restaurant is but it's pretty massive. They easily fit multiple large groups on the dining hall without anyone impeding on someone else's area. The food was delicious & the margaritas are amazing! I went for the restaurant week pricing, so I saved a lot of money off the regular menu price. It's a bit pricey, but if you can afford it (or get a great deal) I recommend visiting."

  • "Our reservation was for 6.45 and we showed up 2 minutes to that time. We waited 20 minutes for a table which is not okay when you actually make a reservation and they are taking walk-ins in front of you. It's very loud and energetic in the restaurant, which we liked but it may have made it hard to hear as our server misheard 3 different drink orders and could not figure out how to make a non-alcoholic margarita. The food was outstanding though, and almost worth all the hassle getting it! We especially liked the skillet-style tacos and fresh churros."

  • "We had a lovely time- it was restuarant week. The food was good but a bit salty- this coming from a person who loves salty food. Food presentation and staff attention was flawless. The guacamole steals the show!"

  • "Had a pretty good experience here for restaurant week. Only gripe i had was that the place was terribly understaffed. There was one waitress taking care of the entire back section. She even came by just to say "sorry, i'm really busy, i'll get to you soon". We waited a good 15 minutes before anyone even gave us any water, and about 20 min before she came by to take our order. Thats when everything changed. Waitress was knowledgable, patient, and explained the restaurant week specials clearly. After she took the orders, the food came out at a reasonable pace, and it was all pretty delicious. Overall, i think my only gripe is probably more with the restaurant's staffing, not with our waitress herself (she was pretty awesome)."
