  • "OK, I admit that I haven't been to many other Mexican restaurants in San Francisco recently, however, I can say that in terms of experience eating at Mexican restaurants over my lifetime, Rosa Mexicano is very near to the top of the list. The water wall's body language clearly whispers "dive in"! We loved the tableside guacamole, the note-perfect unconstructed lobster enchilada, and our inventive margaritas, labeled "Classic" and "Traditional" took us far beyond the suggested implications. For utterly delicious Mexican food in a supremely elegant setting, Rosa Mexicano is as good as it gets!"

  • "If you are looking for "upscale" Mexican - this is a great place. I'd been once before for lunch and it was very good - food, service, everything. This time we went for dinner and again it was spot on. Crab enchiladas are awesome and the grilled fish was fresh and tender and delish, Just two small complaints...They don't put any lemon or lime in the guacamole when they make it at the table and when we asked for some lime they brought us 2 skinny wedges on the rim of a glass (drink garnish!) - and we waited longer for our desserts to come than we did for the main course. The waiter apologized but there was no explanation (the restaurant was less than half full) - I'm still coming back again !!"

  • "I have always made reservations for the lunch hour and the restaurant gets busy! The reception staff is always polite and they give you an immediate sense of what is going on. Once at the table, the wait staff shows up quickly to provide introductions and take drink orders. I recommend the sangria as a very refreshing, tasteful afternoon drink. The table side guacamole preparation is always a crowd pleaser and it's delicious! The tortilla pie is my favorite dish. Flavorful and hearty! I've also had the ceviche and artisanal tacos, also delish! The atmosphere is lively and the cliff jumper water feature along the dining room wall is aesthetically pleasing. I approve of Rosa Mexicano and I return, again and again!"

  • "Yes, the guacamole was good, but that was the highlight. I ordered the trio of ceviche. After an hour the plate came out and it was a disgrace to ceviche. I had to hunt for the seafood. To top it all off I was given saltines on the side. SALTINES, the crackers you eat when you are ill and can't hold anything down. Do not go."

  • "we celebrated the 21st birthday of my nieces here, and it was fabulous. Our waiter, Jose and the staff were so wonderful, the table was set with special handmade crepe flowers and a big birthday sombrero, and special aprons for the birthday celebrants (twins). They brought us delicious tray of desserts for the birthday celebration. Food was excellent, as was the service, water refilled promptly, etc."

  • "I invited 2 friends to Rosa Mexicano and as expected the food was really great, the Guacamole is really fresh and tastes great - cool experience. The Service was a nightmare, 2 minutes after my friends arrived the waiter wanted to take the order from them, we barely had a chance to say hello. Even more embarrassing, whilst one of us was still working on his main dish, the waiter came and wanted to take the orders for the dessert - seriously? He could not even wait till all 3 of us were finished???? All in all, feels like a take out and very poor service."

  • "Rosa Mexicano offers a great guacamole table service which I haven't seen anywhere else. Their food is always plentiful and well prepared. We ordered the short rib and salmon, both very good, although on the more spicy side. The rice was a tad too salty so I might try some of their appetizers next time. Beer selection is so so but their cocktails are fantastic. I appreciated that it wasn't too busy or loud. We also had a good waiter and the food and drinks came quickly."

  • "Everything was good except the service was spotty. We ordered guacamole which usually is mixed from scratch at the table, but were told that it came pre-mixed that day because staffing was low. Five minutes later the personal guacamole mixing was going on for a party at a nearby table. Also, the automatic faucets in the wash basins in the ladies room did not function, leaving my wife with sticky hands after she tried to run off the liquid hand soap on paper towels. Both of these things seriously detracted from an otherwise fine lunch."

When we got there, they scrambled for us and insisted we should all sit together. They got a big long table for us and really took care. Thanks for the stellar hospitality!"

  • "I had been to the rosa in New York a few times and really loved their menu. For a solid upscale choice in san Francisco's financial district, particular with Latin flavors, you cannot go wrong at Rosa Mexicano. The must haves are the table side prepped guacamole which is always delicious. Our table had very nice fish tacos, though we'd prefer the fish not fried but more marinated and grilled, the empanadas which were delicious, and several chicken mole dishes that were also inventive and tasty. Service was excellent. You MUST make a reservation for a weekday lunch table or you are condemned to wait for at least 30 minutes. Not walk in friendly given financial district crush."

  • "I decided to try this "Mexican Fusion" restaurant for Valentine's Day but was a little disappointed. The food was pretty good and different, but the service was pretty bad. We were in the restaurant for over 3 hours because we had to wait over 30 minutes for each course. They didn't even apologize for the wait. A little overpriced for what it is. If you're a foodie, it may be worth checking out for the unique food but be prepared for so-so service. Maybe get it to-go! I probably will not be going back there again."

The food is upscale Mexican, but my salmon skillet fajita was underseasoned and the provided sides of beans and creamed corn were overly sweet. I really enjoyed all of the salsas, though they were a little spicy for my non-Indian friends."

  • "Me and a friend came in for the Dine about Town menu. Their menu was not updated. I initially chose fish tacos. Minutes later, I'm being told that they haven't updated the menus and I can only choose chicken, steak, or pork. I settled for the steak tacos. My meal also consisted of the chicken flautas for appetizer and flan for dessert. Everything was pretty good. I was too full to finish my flan. I thought the restaurant was nice and service ok. It took them awhile to take our order, but we didn't think too much of it. I've already recommended this restaurant to a friend. I think it would be a good place to take a group to. It's pretty big and spacious. Bathroom is also very nice and fancy."

  • "I was a solo diner on a week day for an early dinner at 5:45. The bar was moderately busy when I arrived. I was seated at a table/booth. There were only 3 other tables seated when I arrived. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Food was delivered timely and hot. I ordered Sauteed Snapper, which came with cilantro rice and refried black beans. The freshly prepared guacamole is a large portion, serving 2-3 ppl therefore, I didn't order it. I opted for chips and dip instead. I also ordered a margarita from the bar and it was very good and strong. I was too full to order dessert. I would return to this establishment again."

  • "Not really a good place to have a meeting lunch. Not enough room to have the bigger tables set up for larger parties. Great for couples or a party no larger than four. Food was ok. Nothing special. I had the enchilada’s which was smothered in sauce. They could cut the sauce down some. It looked like they were hiding something in the sauce. It ruined the presentation of the food to have too much sauce. Also food needs to be serve hot. My food was warm. The sauce was cold. Flavor was ok. Chips were also served cold. I love other Mexican restaurants that actual serve warm chips."

  • "First impressions were wonderful. loved the decor and fresh guacamole. Unfortunately, the food was inconsistent. In our group of six, half were satisfied with our food - fresh and high quality ingredients. Our biggest issue was with the incredibly dry, over seasoned chicken pieces on salads. A close second was the heavy handed seasonings. While we enjoy spices, we're not fans of foods that are so spicy as to overtake the dish -- which was the case for most of the entrees (sides were fine). Had we had an attentive server, we could have addressed our food issues. However, our server was no where to be seen - In fact, we had to walk over to the bar for more water. Long waits between courses…left no time for dessert. Too bad."

  • "This was my first time here and I thought it was a great menu as well as a good value for money, despite it being NYE. We were a party of 5 and they gave us a nice table. We had the 4-course prix fixe consisting of guacamole (delicious, gone in 30 seconds), appetizer, main course - all very good but some items quite spicy. For dessert we shared the cinnamon churros with three sauces - raspberry, caramel and chocolate. The food was well spaced out and we had the 2-hour unlimited open bar which included five well-presented cocktails, house white and red wine and some beer. The service was friendly but they were rushed off their feet and messed up one of the appetizers. I will definitely come back for the guacamole and to try the regular menu."

The food and drinks hit the spot although pricy. The guacamole dip was very good. The drinks were good but a tad small but strong so it's ok. I believe some of the reviews here and yelp were too hard on this place or stopped by on an off day for the kitchen and or waiter. would definitely come back."
