A word from Rosa Mexicano - Riverside Square
Our first Rosa Mexicano to open in New Jersey is located at The Shops at Riverside in Bergen County. The 160-seat restaurant features a spacious bar and lounge area, as well as outdoor and private dining options. Under the creative direction of architect and designer Timothy Higgins, the décor features vibrant colors such as vivid pink, deep maroon, rich butterscotch and warm yellow. Traditional craftwork and adornments include Oaxacan wood carvings of mythical animals, custom wax-dipped artwork, Mayan Indian textiles, and folk art masks. Tortillas are fresh-made on-site at a station featuring colorful tiles and a hammered copper hood. Through the unique designs and cuisine, all will encounter an authentic Mexican experience at Rosa Mexicano.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "But was given a broken and dirty table. Near the door and children. Asked for Guacamole but server said they could do it by a table side, which is part of the point of it. She ended up doing it at our table because we begged. The food was good. Chips were really salty, but then told that they had ones with no salt. Drinks were great. Waiter was pleasant. I would go again but ask for a table not near the door. May even try it in the summer when we could eat outdoors."

  • "The best guacamole and sangria around. Our salmon was a bit undercooked and it was taking a while to be returned to the table. Theanager stepped in, gave us a new portion on the house and even sent over dessert. The entire dining experience was excellent."

  • "My girlfriends and u shared a lovely lunch here. Chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. We ordered chicken quesadilla which came with spur cream and oniony guacamole; carnitas and short rib enchiladas. The order came with warm corn tortillas, flavorful rice and black beans. Only negative were the overly salty carnitas. Everything else was delicious. Service always attentive and pleasant. Very quiet at lunch - go!"

  • "I love going to Rosa Mexicano because of the service, food and warm ambiance. The waiters are friendly and attentive. My favorite indulgences are the guacamole, empanadas and the pomegranate margarita."

  • "This is the second time in about 3 months that I visited Rosa Mexicano. I found this time that the menu had been changed but am happy to say I was not disappointed! Service was great; fresh tableside guacamole was outstanding; Shrimp Ceviche awesome--not to mention the top shelf marguerita and Sangria!! I finished it off with the dessert special of Tres Leches Cake and a scoop of sea salt cajeta. My only criticism was that the tres leches was a bit too citrus (I've had it in Mexico and Costa Rica without any hint of citrus). Citrus wasn't a flavor expected. At any rate, I'll go back and bring more friends!!"

  • "I used to love this place and then it started to go downhill. We decided to give it another try and I am so glad that we did. The new updated menu was amazing. Right from the start, we noticed the new salsa and had to ask for thirds, it was so good! The entrée choices were better and the portions were very generous! We had enough for lunch the next day and I rarely don't finish everything on my plate! Can't wait to go back."

  • "Dinner started off promising with the guacamole coming out quickly... Little did we know that our dinner would take over an hour to be served. I planned the dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday and was embarrassed that the service was so slow. The waitress and manager were nice and sent over free sangria without our asking because the food was clearly taking way too long. I expect dinner to take over 3 hours at a high-end pre-fixe restaurant in New York City but it is unacceptable at a chain restaurant like Rosa Mexicana attached to a mall. Come to think of it, I've never left the restaurant pleased with the service in the few times I've been there and have no plans to go back."

  • "I loved this spot. It's so well designed, the food is amazing. I don't give this restaurant a 5 star because parking is not the best. If you don't want to park yourself, valet is available."

  • "Always happy with the food and my experience at this restaurant."

  • "Fairly good gourmet Mexican food. Their signature appetizer is fresh guacamole made at table-side. It looks good but I didn't have it. I tried the ceviche which was delicious. I also had the pork belly-sea scallop taco which sounded interesting but an odd combination which is was. I wouldn't recommend it. Their beef entrees looks like the way to go. Their dessert selection was a disappointment. Don't get the churros. They were a mess, over fried, all crust and no doughy center. Street churros were better. Also the dress code on open table stated "business casual" which this place definitely is not. While the dining room might have some upscale neo-mexican decor, the clienteles' dress is definitely casual including jeans and hoodies."

  • "My one recommendation would be to either tone down the music on busy nights (it gets hard to hear) and also, could you play some latin music?"

  • "To little food options on then rub and a bit overpriced."

  • "We love the pomegranate margaritas & fresh made guacamole, the meals need a refresh, they're aren't a lot of choices & they're slightly over priced for Mexican food. We waited at least 10Min before anyone came to our table (& it wasn't packed at 7) the waiters did apologize & brought us a complimentary app that they seem to be trying out, since it wasn't in the menu, but if was delicious. I feel like it would be WAY better if they had a "small plates" menu."

  • "Have eaten here many times, but this is the first time we tried fish dishes. The Pescano Pibil and the fish tacos, both made with Atlantic cod, were excellent. Another good discovery at one of our favorite places."

  • "If you are looking for high quality Mexican food I would say come here. Nice presentation if the food. The guacamole is made table side and the desserts were fabulous too!"

  • "I go to Rosa in the City all the time but it was lovely to have the same menu without the crowds and noise. We had great drinks, food and dessert in a very nice atmosphere."

  • "I had high hopes for this restaurant, as I enjoy Rosa Mexicana in NYC. My family and I were really disappointed leaving the restaurant. First off, the restaurants at Riverside Square are often so crowded on Sunday nights, but Rosa was almost completely empty. The guacamole was great, but my family thought their meals were very subpar. The waitress was very kind, but the food is nothing to rave about. I won't be returning."

  • "Get the guac and the frozen pomegranate margarita - the rest doesn't matter! Well, ok, it does and you can't go wrong with the Mixed Grill Brochette (be careful of the sorrano peppers), or the baby-back ribs. Don't eat red meat - get the Enchiladas de Jaibas, delicious!"

  • "Can't skip creative cocktails and guacamole made tableside. We've enjoyed every entree we've tried, but can't beat the taco selections that include scallops & pork belly or duck or crispy fish. Service occasionally slow but generally very good."

  • "I was there for New Years celebration. food was just OK, my steak was horrible We have asked for check and even thou price for dinner was set price of $49 , waiter brought the bill charging us for every dish separately . He overcharged us for about $80 and made stupid excuse that one of the dishes that was ordered was not on a set menu, how stupid since the only menu we had on a table was a set menu. I would never again visit this restaurant"

  • "This place has so much potential. It's sad to see numerous reservation availability because it's indicative of not keeping up with the competition of the mall. They create a great flavor presentation but are so limited in options. It's a shame they couldn't adopt their opening original menu as it was wonderful. And it wouldn't hurt to have some vegetarian options other than the guacamole."

  • "We have been going to Rosa Mexicano for years in NYC and love everything about it from the cocktails to the food. This new location made my family very happy and we decided to try it out on Saturday night. Thank goodness for valet service because parking would have been an issue in the mall location. Although our waitress was lovely, service was slow and it took a long time to get our drinks. Our family will try it again for sure hoping the busy weekend was the cause of slow service, especially since the food was fabulous."

  • "Delicious. I return to this restaurant at least twice a year. Guacamole is always a hit- so good! We also had the cevice sampler which was outstanding - but it was a little spicy! My main course was the chicken enchiladas- best thing I have had at Rosa. The caramel ice cream sundae is fabulous as well. service is great- will definitely go back- would recommend to anyone!"

  • "I always forget about Rosa Mexicano and I guess because it's on Rt.4, in back of Riverside Square. I went with a group of friends (6 of us) and I made an early (6:00p) reservation. We were seated quickly. Our server, Patrick, was helpful and patient. The tableside guacamole is a must do as is the Sangria. Everyone's food came in good. Portions were good and presentation (except the beef enchiladas with mole sauce) was very nice. I look forward to returning!!"

  • "The food was delicious....especially the guacamole!! One of the best guacs I've ever eaten!! The service was wonderful...the waiter was polite, extremely friendly and had excellent follow-through. We sat in the restaurant for over 3 hours and they never once asked us to leave or implied that we couldn't sit as long as we want. This was a meeting place for me and two other friends who all live in different local areas...Brooklyn, Rockland County, NY and NJ and it worked out really well. Would highly recommend this restaurant and location to others."

  • "This restuarant is located in the upscale Riverside Square Shopping Mall in Northern New Jersey. The restaurant is usually very crowded and that is due to a very good and very different Mexican menu. No Tex Mex dishes here. Everything is quite good but I think the highlight is the fresh guacamole which is prepared table side. It seems everyone starts with this dish. It is very good. Since the restaurant is in the mall parking is easy but they also provide valet parking for $6. Overall a restaurant that is very good and worth visiting"

  • "The kitchen needs a management change. We waited about 40 minutes for our entrees (had to ask about them), and when they came out, one of them was so cold, we had to send it back. Overheard an adjacent table who also sent back cold food. There were some other minor issues with the food that don't bear mentioning here. We talked to the manager, who was a pro and did right by us. He asked if we'll come back. We said 'maybe'. We will come back, but only if there are changes in the back of the house."

  • "First time to Rosa Mexicana in years. This one located in the Riverside Mall is very good. Their guacamole prepared fresh table side is still excellent. We shared that starter. Then we had chicken enchiladas and duck tacos. All very good. Large place and very crowded. Well worth a visit"
