A word from Rosa Mexicano - National Harbor
In 1984, Rosa Mexicano set a new standard for Mexican cuisine when it first opened on the upper east side of New York City. Playing a leading role in defining what was then a "new" cuisine to American diners, Rosa Mexicano delivers authentic Mexican cooking in an accessible, stylishly festive atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano's menu features a range of award-winning signature dishes, including our Guacamole en Molcajete, in a traditional lava rock mortar. Described by Time Out New York as "green ecstasy in a stone bowl," it is prepared table side and served with house made chips, warm corn tortillas and condiment salsas. Rosa Mexicano is also known for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, as well as the stylish and festive ambiance that includes an illuminated water wall.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I booked a reservation for my friend's birthday dinner. Everything was top notch! One of the best parts was the customer service. We ended up having a few more people commit after the reservation was made. While most restaurants would not want to accommodate you especially on a Saturday night, Shawn was excellent in helping make the adjustments. There was no problem, no stress, and no attitude about the last minute change. My friend had a wonderful birthday and all in attendance enjoyed themselves. You have to get the table side guacamole! The only downside was that it took a while to get both rounds of our drinks we order but the food did come out rather quickly. I def would have no problems recommending to others."

  • "I've always had a great experience dining at Rosa Mexicano no matter the location (DC or National Harbor). The food is great and the margaritas are even better! The one at National Harbor has indoor and outdoor dining options in nice weather with a great view!"

  • "The weather was horrible that day, windy, rainy, snowing, cold but we love this place the food was delicious, great service amd in a normal day you can enjoy a beautiful view."

  • "First time at this Rosa Mexicano. The guacamole needed more seasoning. When entrée arrived part of it was cold. I told Pablo who brought out another portion but by that time didn't want any more food."

  • "Good food and great drinks. Lively environment makes for a good time, but you need a reservation because its always a full house. I wish they took reservations for groups greater than 7."

  • "Always excellent food & drinks at reasonable prices. We'll always recommend both National Harbor and Washington DC locations."

  • "We went to Rosa Mexicano for Restaurant Week. The deal included 3 items -- your choice of an entree, an appetizer, a dessert, or a beverage -- for $35. All in all, it was a pretty good deal! We paid $7 extra to get guacamole as one of our appetizers -- certainly glad we did it! We also got pomegranate margaritas. While they may seem small when they get to your table, you'll see the value once you take a sip -- there was no skimping on alcohol! The only part of our meals that we weren't impressed with were the cheese enchiladas. They weren't bad, just nothing to write home about. The decor and ambiance were top notch and the service was incredible! Would consider coming back if in the area, but not make the drive specifically."

  • "The fixed menu had a limited variety. We were four in our party of which two ordered from the pre-set menu. The guacomole was a hit! Food was good and our server was excellent."

  • "We used Open Table to make our reservation 2 days ahead &I'm glad we did. We were seated right on time even w/the 1.5 hr wait for those w/out reservations. We were seated in literally the BEST seat in the entire restaurant,a corner table overlooking the harbor. Our waiter immediately offered the well-known table side guacamole. It was out of this world! My husband and I both ordered Mojitos which were also excellent. We shared a Mexican Caesar (delicious spicy croutons) & crab enchiladas. The enchiladas themselves were delicious but the were covered in a cilantro sauce which overpowered the crab meat. We ended up scraping it off & enjoying the enchiladas w/out the sauce. The beans &rice were also scrumptious. Everything was timely&so good!"

  • "Be sure to spring for the guac! Made at the table to your preference and very tasty. The main acouse was very ample in portion and we both found the food unique and very good. The service was exceptional as well."

  • "I do not dine in many Mexican restaurants though I have to say, the food, service and atmosphere was tops. Great time and good food!!"

  • "Rosa Mexicano has good to great food. The Baja fish tacos were superb. The Tequila selection was strong and the Tequila flights were generous in size and low in price. The 'made at your table' guacomole was good but the quantity was rather small compated to other restaurants. I would most definitely visit Rosa Mexicano again."

  • "I am a regular. This time the food was not as awesome as normal and my chips were burned. Service was okay. Server was forgetful but pleasant."

  • "Whenever we come, we always get the Guacamole made at the table. It really is a meal in itself! I ordered another appetizer for my main course and it wasn't what I expected or what I enjoyed. I decided just to eat the guac. The waiter asked what was wrong, and I said it was my fault as it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. He took the food away and asked if I wanted anything else for a replacement. When the bill came, the appetizer was not on it. I told him I would be glad to pay but he insisted that Rosa Mexicano wants our service. I am very impressed and of course will return the the restaurant."

  • "I really enjoyed celebrating my birthday at Rosa Mexicano in the National Harbor. Dinner with a view is always nice and I thought the guacamole and the Baja tacos were wonderful. I'm not sure how the restaurant found out it was my birthday, but it was really fun to be presented with a tequila shot inside a cake shaped box and no embarrassing singing. I'm looking forward to going back to try the short ribs. I tried some of my friend's and they were the best I've ever had."

  • "Took my in-laws for dinner here because it is one of my favorite restaurants. Since they don't drink I decided not to order any myself and so did my wife. We all ended up ordering horchata. A few minutes later, they came back and told us that they were completely out and we were kind of forced to order sodas. Other than that, it was great."

  • "I have serious reservations about National Harbor. Let's be honest, parking is outrageous & in many other ways customer service is not their strong suit. My colleague and I picked Rosa Mexicano and National Harbor because it was a convenient meeting point and we had never been to this location. We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful everything was for our Friday night dinner. The restaurant was busy, but we were greeted promptly & courteously and seated right away. Everyone from the server to the busboys to the manager were fantastic. Our server, Marianna, was especially great - attentive and patient, she helped us navigate the menu to get food we thoroughly enjoyed. We will be back; thank you!"

  • "Went to Rosa's to celebrate Valentines Day. We had 2 of the 1800 Tequila.Margaritas. They were perfect as was the Bar keep. The atmosphere was very nice. For dinner we sat at a table at the windows which was very nice watching the day turn to night with all the area lights. There where serving a prefix menu for $45.00 per person. This Included a delicious Guacamole made table side, choice of an appetizer each, two entrees, and dessert. The Skirt steak with Chicken was very good and a good size serving.looked very good. My wife said the Scallops and Shrimp over rice very flavorful and cooked perfect. The service was very good and the place was packed. Will definitely return when back to National Harbor."

  • "I wanted to try another restaurant National Harbor. After reading reviews, other options were apparently way overpriced and/or over-rated. The second visit, we were lucky to snag a booth in the bar at 6:30 on a Saturday night in mid- January. The wait for the dining room was over two hours! This time I made a reservation about a week ahead. I ordered fish tacos but wished I'd been more adventurous. Don't miss the guacamole and don't expect enough to share with more than two though the portion is generous. Same for churros for dessert. The waiter recommended the Pomegranate Margarita but I love the margarita with jalepeno infused tequila. Highly recommend. Make reservations at least 5 days prior for weekend night."

  • "I really enjoyed this restaurant; the food was good, the drinks were great, and it's obviously appreciated by many, given the Saturday night crowd. Only issue was the service, which was understandably slow at times with the large number of patrons, but they got that table-side guacamole out fast to make waiting more bearable. I will definitely be back!"

  • "Kudos to this restaurant for providing consistently excellent food in moderate portions. The menu seemed to have fewer choices this time at dinner, though, which was a bit of a disappointment. Still, appetizers and entrees were greatly enjoyed by everyone in our party. Our server was excellent, providing attentive service without hovering and she provided the most wonderful dessert to the man in our party who was celebrating his birthday."

  • "If you're looking for a good margarita, a solid selection of tequilas, or a fun atmosphere, Rosa Mexicano doesn't disappoint. But if you're looking for tasty Mexican food, look somewhere else. The food--the tacos in particular--was generally bland and under-seasoned. Next time, we'll visit one of the many other restaurants in the area, and then come here to tack on a drink after dinner."

  • "Told waiter it was my birthday, not even a happy birthday was uttered. Only decent part of dinner was the $26 guacamole. Reservation was set at one time, had to remind the hostess/host we were waiting. Most likely will not return to this location."

  • "Great guacamole, always the best! Good service even for the large group we had. Very quick and delicious."

  • "scenic views, easier parking than the one in DC, wider variety of dishes than DC, with their classic top shelf happy hour - this is a place not to be missed."

  • "The food was ok but our waitress was terrible!!!! She was extremely rude!!! We will not be back!!!"

  • "I had not dined at Rosa Mexicano since it first opened and the kitchen had trouble keeping up with the flow of orders. The last time we were late for the Cirque du Soleil because the kitchen was slow but they have found their rhythm. The guacamole made table side was delightful and the chicken and/or fish skillets on the lunch menu just right. The bar is always a great place to hang out to catch up with a friend and/or to wait for a table. Will try it again in the future for dinner...but definitely a great little place to have a lunch and catch up conversation."

  • "Me and 7 of my family members came here to celebrate my birthday. I only made my reservation about 2 hours in advance yet our table was set and in an ideal location upon our arrival. Our waiter was attentive and upon my request provided a gluten-free menu for me. The good was tasty especially the guacamole. I ordered chicken enchilada for my entree and it came with black beans and fried.rice as did a few of my companions meals. This was absolutely delicious. I'd been here before for happy hour, this was my first time.here for a meal, I will certainly be back."

  • "We weren't sure what to expect as we had gotten mixed reviews from friends of ours. Turns out this place is fantastic! Our table had a great view of the water. The guacamole made at table side was superb. The bartender was able to turn our drink request into a fantastic reality (Sangria Margarita by the pitcher). The ladies both had the maui fish tacos and both gave an good review. My buddy had the short ribs and raved about them. I had the pork shank and my only regret was I had eaten so many chips that I couldn't finish it. It was superb. Even better than the food and drinks was the service. They treated us like we were important and gave us their undivided attention every time we needed it without being asked - waiter clairvoyant!"
