A word from Rosa Mexicano - First Avenue
Our flagship location opened its doors on First Avenue in 1984. From the moment you arrive, old world charm permeates your dining experience through authentic Mexican colors and rustic folk art. Traditional amate gods greet you at the front entrance and brightly colored papel picado hangs from the ceiling. Corn tortillas are made on site and an exposition grill further seduces your senses. With its warm ambiance and outstanding cuisine, this Rosa Mexicano location has remained a perennial New York favorite for over 25 years.

Service is always super, attentive, helpful. The place is filled with young people every night. Big bar scene. Front room much noiser than the two back rooms. Food always reliably very good. Never over the top fabulous. That's okay. This is not a *** gourmet restaurant. Get's an A or A- in my book and that's pretty good!

Excellent take on nuevo Mexican, and a mainstay of the neighborhood for about 20 years. The bar is excessively crowded for those over thirty, and the waiters will try to 'push' specials, which I don't particularly like.

After hearing so much about this place, I was prepared to be blown away. The food was greasier than one would expect at a popular and fairly pricey restaurant, and the flavors weren't overly unique or stunning. It was a fine night out, but for all the hype, I expected better.

The experience was overall pretty good. We had an entree of red snapper that was not good. THe fish tasted very fishy and bad. The waiter hardly stopped to check on us and after we received our food he did not check on us at all. He was preoccupied with other things. THe manager was very curteous and removed the entree from the bill and gave us a free dessert. Overall okay. The guacamole was outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dinner was very good, the portions were large and the quality of food was excellent. I was disappointed in the marguerita, but then I don't usually drink Pomegranite Margueritas so it isn't fair for me to rate this one. The staff was friendly and the service was lively. The hostess was extremely accomodating and sat my party down immediately even though we were 45 minutes early. However, during the meal, the wait staff kept trying to clear our dishes even though we were still working on our food. At one point, one of the waiters tried to take my dish as I was taking a bite! I thought that was very unprofessional. Otherwise, the food was very enjoyable. The guacamole really is fantastic! Their mole is impressive. The portions are very large. I felt I could barely get through half my dish. And the drinks are tasty and inventive.

Rosa Mexicana did not disappoint, as it never does. We were seated right away and they allowed us to move to a quieter, more intimate table. The service was excellent. The food was outstanding. The guacamole is a must have. One gripe, which I have about many restaurants, is the entree being served while the appy's are still on the table. That drives me nuts! I definitely recommend both the UES and Lincoln Center locations. (Not familiar with the other)

Seemed much more like a chain-restaurant (Olive Garden; Chi chis) than I'd experienced in Rosa Mexican/Washington DC and your other location in NYC. Food was good; guacamole wasn't made table-side for us, though. I will double-check in the future if I've gotten the "right location" (when there are multiples in 1 city) before making a reservation so we don't encounter the same ambiance/noise.
