Diner Reviews
  • "As a Cuban, I am proud to see my culture represented, so, I was very happy to try Rosa Blanca. Unfortunately, I could not have been more disappointed. I found nothing that I could really eat, leaving me to order eggs that were frankly drowning in some tasteless grease. The basic problem is that for someone that has high blood pressure and must watch their Sodium intake OR is health conscious, the menu offers nothing. As the waitress said, almost everything is pre-cooked and already quite salty at Mr. Garces'directions. As a community leader, Mr. Garces has a responsibility to show concern for the health of the community that is supporting his business. What we experienced was most disappointing. "

  • "Tried the pulpo, the steak sandwich and the masitas de puerco. Every bite was perfect. Taste, not size, wins in every bite. "

  • "Went to Rosa Blanca for breakfast, staff all very friendly, we were seated at a large booth even though just 2 of us, nice! Had an awesome Cuban coffee, if I worked nearby would be stopping every am for a coffee. Food, service was very good, especially the ham croquettes and empanadas. I work at 20th & Market, would definitely be worth a mad dash at lunch for the croquettes!!"

  • "We expected an "upscale diner" experience based on the Garces reputation. We were disappointed. We ordered the chef's tasting menu for a group of 6. Interesting flavors, but tastings arrived with less than enough for each person. A major flaw for a tasting menu! The overall amount of food was appropriate, but the chef appeared to be serving a table of 3 or 4. The availability of wine was extremely disappointing. Of the 8 or so bottles listed, two were available. Instead of telling us this in advance, the server took the order, then came back ten minutes later to say each bottle was not available as we worked our way down the list. Confusing ambiance: diner out front and fine dining in the back? Diner? Yes. Upscale a& Professional? No."

  • "I loved Rosa Blanca! I'm a big Jose Garces fan, but Rosa Blanca in one bite became my favorite of his restaurants and a tie for my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia (tied with Sbraga). Rosa Blanca is in expensive and worth twice as much. I have never had better eggs, and the potatoes were to die for. I had the fufu (mashed sweet potatoes with herbs) which was fantastic, and my friend had the sanduch which he felt was better than any other Cuban sandwich he's had (to which he has been to many!)"

  • "This was my second time to the restaurant, and i confess disappointment. The guacamole was excellent, but for the price of $9 there was not enough of it to say it was worth the price. The empanadas are just ok. the best thing on our menu were the ham croquettes which were excellent, but again, very small portion for too much money. I ordered a mojito and it was good, but mostly ice and very little drink. so.......after all is said and done, the atmosphere is cute, up scale diner like in the front, but the food and portions are not worth the expense. We will not return I am sorry to say."

  • "A group of us shared many of the small plates and entrees. The coconut conch chowder was outstanding. Everything was delicious. The only dish that was a little bland was the vegetarian option, layered spinach and ricotta cheese."

  • "This was my second time dining at Rosa Blanca, and again, every bite was absolutely delicious, the service was attentive and friendly, and the decor and ambience were relaxing, fun, and chic. It was a much needed balm to an incredibly stressful day, and really, that was an ideal dining experience should be able to do. Eat here - you will not regret it. Dates, groups, family affairs - everything works well in this space"

  • "My girlfriends and I had brunch there when I was visiting for the weekend. Had a great time! Food was great, service was awesome. Will definitely be trying the rest of their menu next time I'm in town."

  • "I took my wife here for her birthday on Saturday night and the entire experience was top notch. The service was friendly, thoughtful, and attentive, and the food and drinks were fantastic. We went with the tasting menu and were not disappointed. We also had several rum cocktails, all excellent, but I particularly recommend the mojitos. Bottom line - we love Rosa Blanca!"

  • "We had been to Chifa a couple of times before so we weren't sure what to expect with Rosa Blanca. We were pleasantly surprised at the revamped look & feel. It's very fun, bright & lively, felt like we were in a Miami diner. Food was amazing, as always. Portions look smaller than you expect but everything is very filling, so don't be discouraged by the portion size. Our waitress Julie was very friendly & knowledgeable of the menu items. Her descriptions of the items were perfect and all of her recommendations panned out! We'll definitely be back soon :)"

  • "An excellent Garces restaurant with moderate prices and a fun atmosphere. Well done."

  • "This was our third visit to Rosa Blanca. The food was outstanding, the service was attentive, but the noise was deafening. Don't sit upstairs (main floor) if you want to hold a conversation. The four young people next to us were screaming, and there's no upholstery or carpeting or anything to absorb noise. HOWEVER, we discovered that there's a downstairs, which is open on weekend evenings when the restaurant is busy, and the noise level is much more manageable down there... AND there's one table, table #90, that is located romantically by itself in an alcove and can seat a couple or a foursome, if you reserve it in advance. As for food, can't go wrong with roupa vielha, roast chicken.. be sure to order a side of maduros."

  • "I'm a big fan of Garces & I've heard so many great things about this restaurant, I was really excited about trying it out. Our cocktails were delicious especially the "fuego" martini. The cod fritters & ham croquettes were tasty but very salty. My red snapper was delicious. My husband chose a breakfast option (which is available all day), his eggs & braised beef were very good as was the skirt steak of our friend. Our 4th diner ordered the pork, which was served over potatoes. It was well cooked and delicious but the potatoes were soaked in the grease from the pork and inedible. I tried them myself & they tasted awful. Dessert was the creme brûlée nothing remarkable. All in all a good meal, however, it didn't meet my expectations."

  • "Having lived in Miami for 5 years, it's awesome to have a fun, upscale, but authentic Cuban restaurant in Philly. The Cubano was just as good as what I can get at Versailles on Calle Ocho."

  • "We dined (for the first time) at Rosa Blanca at 11:00 a.m. on a Sunday. It was the perfect time to acquaint ourselves with the menu. The service staff was pleasant, helpful explaining the specials & menu offerings, and very attentive throughout our meal. Our daughter had breakfast, while my husband and I had lunch. The lentil soup and Las Palmas salad were perfection. The Cuban sandwich was perfectly prepared and the bread was at the peak of freshness. The Cuban coffee provided a nice kick. We can't wait to return at a later meal period so we can partake of Rosa Blanca's extensive rum menu, as 11:00 a.m. was a little early to begin drinking!!"

  • "We went to Rosa Blanca to celebrate two co-workers birthdays. The food was very good. We had made a reservation for 8 but actually had 10 people show up so the restaraunt was very accomodating in finding us another table."

  • "This was our second visit because our first visit the food was excellent. This time we ordered the chefs choice. Lots of food but was sadly too salty, fried food yucky, nothing seemed fresh, apprehensive to go back or at least never order what we had. However, out of 12 + dishes served! the guacamole and dessert was the best. Service excellent and they took our input graciously."

  • "We were looking forward to an interesting meal at the new Garces diner before attending a play at the Arden. We were disappointed. The service was fine, the food bland and indifferently presented. Bring back Chifa!"

  • "I really like Jose's restaurants and was entertaining out of town business guests so I thought we would give this a try for lunch. Menu choices were creative and food was excellent. It wasn't that busy but service was extremely slow."

  • "I liked the menu choices with sandwiches, entries, and a tasting option. Our party had steak and fish dishes that were very tasty. In addition there was a nice choice of desserts."

  • "The basement dining room should be for groups only - that way you can let them cancel each other out with ever increasing noise levels. If you don't have enough waitstaff, that dining room should be closed. Being relegated to the basement dining room after a reservation for 4 would not have been my first choice. Noisy basement dining - small portions - too expensive I sat at the counter for a lovely breakfast, however before making dinner reservations with friends."

  • "There were 3 of us for dinner. We did the chefs tasting menu. A bit too many deep fried items, but good nonetheless less We were in the down stairs level. Very loud. Add some fabric to absorb sound. The beef brisket and rice dish was my favorite full of flavor!!! Good bar."

  • "the food and mojitos were amazing! try the las palmas salad! the service was ehh….it took forever to get drinks and food. i prob would have ordered way more alcohol but too slow."

  • "This was our 4th time in for lunch. Our approach has been to try a different dish on each visit. This visit we had the lentil soup, Tortilla, Sopa Special ( French toast),and a side order of Maduros. We enjoyed all but found the Tortilla a bit short on flavor. The Maduros (plantains) and french toast were wonderful. A finish with coffee at any Garces restaurant is special. Service was attentive as always."

  • "The suckling pig and plantains were good, but the noise level at the back of Rosa Blanca was so high it was difficult to hear the servers or anyone sitting at our table. Request a booth in the front or sit at the bar."

  • "I went there on a thursday and there was a sizable crowd. A co-worker and I shared the guac and cod fritters. Both were really good. I had the Callo Ocho and the sandwich was good, although i couldn't really taste the chorizo. But it was a good hot sandwich and i will definitely eat there again"

  • "We were in town for a conference and were excited to find Cuban food within walking distance of our hotel. Rosa Blanca had a friendly, neighborhood feel. The staff was helpful in making suggestions. The beef dish was excellent as was the chicken and the fish appetizer. Oh and the mojito was perfect!"

  • "The menu has plenty of pickings for your palate if your in a mood for a snack and amazing sandwich or a full on meal. The additional items on the menu can fill out the flavor palate on any meal and at a price that won't make you second guess grabbing a few. Our party tried out something different for each person - and each was sure what they had was the best item - a real win!"

  • "Service was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Excellent service. Food was OK but did not wow me ..... and I have eaten a lot of Cuban food in the past. Portions small and prices high."

  • "The atmosphere is fun and the food is good, but it is not the place I would go for a memorable meal. This is a good restaurant for a fun and casual meal. It is not a "foodie" restaurant like Jose Garces' other restuarants, but you will get a good meal."

  • "We enjoyed our breakfast at Rosa Blanca quite a bit and look forward to returning at a time of day more appropriate to sampling the huge rum list. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly and our server was very knowledgeable about my wife's gluten-free requirement. The only misstep was that our eggs, requested over-easy, were much closer to over-hard. A minor bummer, but not a deal-breaker for us. The rest of our meals were quite good and very well prepared."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The food was great but the service was lacking. Our server either had too many tables to manage or just wasn't checking in with us. The ambience was fun and vibrant but it was very loud. I felt like we had to yell across the table to one another."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "Every time we go the rules changE Everything needed the manager to get involved The food was incorrect at times or missing It was the first time for our friends and it will be a while to get any of us back It was expensive for what we got"

  • "Ambiance is Cuban theme in the front, with big booths are fabulous. Cuban music is pumping. The back dining area area hasn't changed much from Chifa. I find the menu to be so-so: I had higher expectation for a Graces Restaurant. I would recommend a different place nearby, like Cuba Libre or El Vez (Mexican, not Cuban), if you are going for this genre of food. Cuba Libre doesn't have a lot of variety in the menu and everything is predominately meat based. The vegetarian food is uninspiring, which was a big disappointment. I always enjoy when chefs can show their versatility and salads don;t count. The menu was updated just this week (3/10)"
