  • "We were pleased to revisit this restaurant after having been there nearly 10 years ago. It was much calmer on this weeknight so we had a much more enjoyable experience. The Asian fusion cuisine was great, and we enjoyed several appetizers and two great seafood dishes -- a scallops platter and a mahi mahi -- that were both wonderful. Coconut gelato was the perfect ending treat!"

When he returned with the entrees, I had to give it back to him and ask for a new knife. Surroundings were very nice and comfortable."

  • "We left Roppongi a little underwhelmed. The Ahi, onion rings and Hamachi were tasty (though the sauce on the Hamachi was a little sweet). Our waiter was very nice and professional, but on a slow Sunday at mid-afternoon things took a while to come out, even the glasses of wine. They were out of the fig salad and, while we're fans of their farm-to-table ideals, as this was one their 2 signature salads we feel we should have been told this ahead of time. The "steak on a rock" was neat, if a little gimmicky, but the lobster club was long on bread and short on lobster meat. In the end, everything was good, but that's about it, and after all the rave reviews I read (and considering they're in notoriously picky La Jolla) we expected to be wowed."

  • "Waiter was very friendly but brought out appetizer portion of scallops when I ordered entree. Maybe he was confused since my date only ordered edamame, but I thought I was pretty clear. Scallops were very tasty though. I ended up ordering a couple more appetizers and it turned into a happy hour style meal. Overall decent, not sure I would go back though. Pretty average dining experience."

  • "The service at Roppongi on February 20 was appalling, the worst I have experienced in a long time. There were lengthy delays at every stage of the experience, including a protracted wait to receive the bill. There were three of us dining, and we ordered one appetizer and four sushi items. Nothing ordered required cooking. My biggest regret is that I left the server a tip, albeit barely 10%. The restaurant was not busy and did appear to be adequately staffed. I will not return to Roppongi - ever - and hope to have the opportunity to pass my opinion along to prospective diners. How lucky I feel to have been asked to comment on this experience."

  • "Roppongi has never disappointed me. We booked for an early Valentine's Day dinner. Busy but not a crowd. We sat inside rather than on the outdoor patio or the 'walled in' patio. We asked our server to leave the menu because it would be an evening of slow 'noshing' rather than the 3-course V-dinner. Everyone on the waitstaff was polished and kept an eye on us to anticipate our needs before we had to speak up. Sushi was superb, filet was cooked as ordered, and the hot rock stayed hot long enough for a leisurely dining pace. The only flaw: it's always a bit hard to see the fish in the big salt water tank because they hang out in the rocks on the edges."

  • "Our luncheon was a pleasure from start to finish. We were celebrating my friend's eightieth birthday, and Charles was our waiter. He was very considerate, thoughtful and attentive, and the "cream on top" of our meal was the complimentary "Sticky English Toffee Pudding", which we enjoyed to the fullest. Anne hails from Ireland, and I from Scotland, and the pudding was wonderful. We certainly plan a return visit."

  • "I love Roppongi! The food is so good, so flavorful! The menu is creative without pork belly or fish cheeks. I have been going for years - for special occasions, and sometimes with no excuse at all. And I have never been disappointed. People I have taken have also always loved it. This time it was my birthday, and they provided a messy sundae dessert that was worth a visit all by itself. I also like the decor - beautiful restful, elegant colors with an Asian flare provided by Asian statues and art."

  • "Stopped in during restaurant week and was pleasantly surprised! $45 3 course menu featured new "not available before" selections and some old favorites. As Seattle based "salmon snob" almost passed on salmon entree but decided to risk disappointment. Glad we did. Excellent preparation wonderful mix of favors in miso based glaze. Scallops with kimchi fried rice not as impressive. Spicy kimchi saved an otherwise fairly bland preparation. Great spot in the Village. Private dining room for large groups and lots of large tables to handle 8-10."

  • "My gf and I decided to eat here on NYE as a sort of last minute decision and we were both glad we did. The Kung Pao calamari is by far the best I've ever had, anywhere. We also split a house special sushi roll and the macadamia nut crusted halibut. Everything was delicious, our server was friendly, and they had a great trio playing live music in the corner which enhanced the ambiance. We'll definitely be back... great experience! Drinks were a bit pricey at $12-$15 a pop, but I guess that's becoming the norm..."

  • "Dinner for 4 was fine although for the prices, service was far off. Our sushi rolls were served without soy sauce and dipping bowls which we had to ask several times for and could not eat. No chopsticks came for the sushi rolls we had to ask and then only one was brought. My husband asked for a sauce on the side that did not arrive which he had to ask for. I asked for an iced tea that never came that I had to ask for. It arrived with a few cubes of ice. It just seemed we were constantly asking for things just to get our meal eaten. Good food, they just need to tighten up the service as we can't recommend it as the prices are quite high."

  • "Food was very good to excellent, the staff was friendly and efficient without hovering, the restaurant itself is beautiful. It was a Tuesday night the week before Xmas, but still had a fair number of patrons, and the noise level was very low. There even was a private party in a separated room, and we couldn't hear them at all. Prices were very reasonable especially considering the location. Definitely will return."

  • "We went to Roppongi expecting a special pan-Asian menu with emphasis on sushi. They have a variety of special rolls but they were just ok. We were surprised at how few sushi items they had, far more sashimi. They did offer brown rice but only if you get there early in the evening. The sake options were good and the service was very good. The space was ok, oddly empty when we were there on a Friday evening. The prices were high for just average food. Not bad, just nothing special."

  • "We decided to have appetizers although they averaged $16 each and all you received was a small bite. Happy hour is the only way to go when eating there! We have a passport card and since there were very few entrees to choose from we decided to go with the tapas. I asked the waitress if we could use the card for the tapas and she said yes. Then when the giant bill came she only took off 1 tapas. Needless to day I won't be going back but it will probably close soon anyway. Friday night and the restaurant was only 1/4 full!"
