A word from Root Down
Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.

Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.

At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Diner Reviews
  • "I love Root Down but this last visit was a disappointment. Our "mocktail" was awful, and 3 of our 5 dishes were not up to par or anywhere as good as previous Root Down experiences. It was uncomfortably hot and the server said they turn on the air when it gets really hot. It was 97 degrees."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in Denver. Love the food - love that they have their own garden produce. The beet salad is a personal favorite. And there is nothing better in the world than a passion-fruit caramel! It's my go-to place- went there for my anniversary, go there with my favorite people, and it's what I recommend to my friends."

  • "This is my 3rd or 4th time eating at Root Down. The food is always tasty, interesting, and well prepared and the service has usually been spot on. While the food during our most recent visit was great, the service was so strange/disappointing I would reconsider whether I would dine there again. We shared several small plates and the timing of their arrival was off, waiters were slow to pick up dirty plates, refill drinks or acknowledge the slowness of the food. As a former waitress, I understand that quality of service can be just as important as the quality of the food, and in this regard, Root Down failed."

  • "Wow, absolutely fantastic! Ingredients that simply work together but you would never think to combine. Hip place great staff. Need to be adventurous with your taste buds. If you are not willing to try new thing you may find it difficult to order."

  • "After wanting to try Root down for several months, we finally made it out for an early dinner with my two year old in tow. We had a wonderful time sitting on the patio, eating unique and wonderfully tasty dishes and enjoying delicious cocktail and mocktails. The wait staff was all very welcoming and kind to our daughter which isn't always the case in trendy joints. We were out of there just in time for the big rush of people and before the toddler had a chance to melt down after too much sweet pea mint ice cream for dessert. I would absolutely dine here again!"

  • "We enjoyed our first dinner here. One of the plates on the table when we arrived was quite dirty but was quickly removed upon request. We were in the office area which was quiet and cozy. Food was excellent and healthy. I recommend the salmon and beet salad."

  • "Root Down was a wonderful choice for my sister's birthday. Excellent cocktails (we especially liked the grapefruit/jalapeno/gin one), easy food, fun staff."

  • "This is one of my favorite places in Denver! I have Celiac Disease, so their Gluten Free menu makes life a whole lot easier. I have not had a bad meal at Root Down and also enjoy eating at the Root Down at the air port. The Almond Flour pancakes are to die for! It was busy and crowded, but they seated us right away and we were seated on the patio! Great views of downtown. Overall, a very enjoyable meal!"

  • "I had already been to Root Down, and love it. This evening met those already high standards. The server was particularly outstanding. The creativity and local-sourcing on the menu are top-notch."

  • "You can get small plates to share or larger plates. The menu changes seasonally. Interesting nonalcoholic drinks with a good selection of alcoholic drinks as well. I try to find something different each time I go and am never disappointed."

  • "Food and service were excellent, healty choices. Very noisey and packed."

  • "I highly recommend this place. I live in San Francisco and we have a lot of good restaurants, but I wish we had a Roots Down (a City O' City would be nice, too). Fresh high-quality food, well prepared and presented and good service -- all at a price that does not break the bank. Hats off."

  • "On our weekly tour of dining out we finally made it to Root Down. We are only sorrier we did not get here sooner for dinner. We were promptly seated and greeted by Amy our server. She outlined what the specials were and in finding out she was a former East Coast person like us she encouraged us to order the scallops. She was spot on. The best cooked scallops we have had since moving here. Very silky on the inside and a nice crust on the exterior. All the appetizers were well cooked and seasoned and the plating sequencing was timely. Leave room for desert as the creme brulee was terrific."

  • "We had heard good things about the restaurant, but the "summer menu" was disappointing. The oysters and meatballs were both lacking in taste."

  • "After hearing so much raving about the good, our expectations were very high for our first visit. And they were still met, by an abundance of tastiness! It was a early Tuesday night at 530 and still packed. Waitstaff was kept very busy, but our food still arrived in good time. Manager was very attentive, especially when I told her about this being my wife's birthday, brought us a dessert! Best food we've had in awhile."

  • "We had a lovely time. I had put a note on Open Table that it was our anniversary and we wanted a more private table. When we arrived they wished us a happy anniversary, gave us a card and a champagne toast. Beyond the treatment, the food was SO GOOD- flavors were so beautifully blended. You must get the Pepper Bloosom cocktail!"

  • "The sweet corn falafel was out of the world. We also loved the veggie burger sliders. The service was excellent and ambiance great. The only thing is you need to make an appointment way in advance otherwise it is hard to get a table. The awesome food more than made up for the wait."

  • "Went for a birthday lunch as we couldn't get a dinner reservation until after 9pm. Was informed at the table that they only serve brunch on Sunday, which seemed okay but limited the menu selections. Really loud, but food and service was good. Will have to try to get a dinner reservation and compare the two visits so I can give a more balanced/fair evaluation."

  • "I have had several friends give great personal reviews of Root Down. With such positive commentary, you expect a lot and they did not disappoint! The beet salad was fantastic (loved the combination with goat cheese and hazelnuts), and my friend & I split 2 share plates which were also incredible (arepas & scallops). Great flavors and unexpected pairings of ingredients made for fresh and tasty plates! And dessert - delish - chocolate cookie crumbles, coconut ice cream, salted caramel foam, and some kind of chocolate mousse-like amazement with a thin sheet of salted chocolate on top. It was all wonderful!"

  • "Root Down is always good! This was our 4th visit here. If we lived in CO I am sure we would come here at least once a month. You can't go wrong with any of the food. The tapas are the way to go. They truly are made for sharing. And if there aren't enough sliders on the plate to share, the food server will suggest to order more. It's one of those meals where every time you take a bite of food you go, "hmmmm!" Drinks are great and if you're really into trying new drinks they have some unique choices. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. Love, love, love this place!"

  • "Great food, but wait time for main course was about a half hour. This left my wife with that time to see the 3 courses brought to the next table and to watch all the hubbub in the prep area behind our table. The table location was about the worst in the place as it was on a corner isle as the patio was cleared for inclement weather an we were bumped over and over again. Food may have taken longer for the special or due to being gluten free, just seemed like forever."

  • "Brought my wife here for a romantic dinner. The wine was organic, so was the food, and everything tasted spectacular. Even the bathrooms were forward thinking when it came to recycling eater sources used. I'm impressed and will definitely be back again as soon as reservations are open; plan accordingly, as reservations go quickly!"

  • "The food was outstanding and the service was great! My husband and I are both vegan and they were very accommodating to our needs. Will definitely come here again."

  • "Um, thank God for gluten free people, because they inspired the almond flour/buttermilk pancake to be born. Yum. Did not like the Root Down eggs benedict with quinoa. It was served cold. Quinoa was a gloppy mess. Still worth it though, you know, because of the pancake that I stole from my buddy's plate. Even though the place was crazy busy at 1 on Sunday, holiday weekend, the staff was super nice and all went well."

  • "I only made the reservation 2 days ahead and they were able to accommodate a late night table on the patio with the perfect spot to watch the coors feild fireworks! The place was full but the service from both the server and the host was spot on and the food doesn't get any better! We ordered a lot but did not leave anything on our plate, we even ordered a second order of the lamb burger sliders because they were so good. Could not have asked for a better night! We will be back and if you have never been, you are missing out on a gem in a very up and coming area! *only mentioned the noise level was loud because of the fire works, normally a very relaxed yet busy atmosphere where you can still enjoy great conversation"

  • "My husband and I ate here for their special 4th of July dinner. The food was yummy and they are upfront about asking for allergies or food restrictions. However, we did tell our waitress that we had a gluten allergy and she brought us a dinner plate with salmon and pasta and didn't care to notify us that there was gluten on this plate. The drinks were very good, however, a bit expensive."

  • "The first Tuesday of every month during the summer is raw food night at Root Down. This amazing meal already compliments they're spectacular menu. it's a travesty this only happens once a month but I guess that gives everyone a chance to try the rest of the menu! Truly Denver's best restaurant along with its sister store Linger."

  • "I made reservations for 5 people for 8:30pm on a Monday. Upon our early arrival, we waited until 9:00pm to be seated. The hostess constantly told us they were waiting for a table to clear for us. Once we were seated, it took about another 15 minutes for a server to come over and address us. The server told us he was not our server, but just came over to take drink orders. Every time we ordered drinks, it took about 10 minutes for the drinks to come. I was extremely disappointed in the service of the restaurant. Although the service was very disappointing, the food was good. Not amazing, just good. The drinks were really good-best part of the meal. Also, this restaurant is not equipped for large groups. Very tight space, with small tables."

  • "Feeling a little let down as we were very excited to try Root Down. We ordered drinks right away, but it took forever to get them (including the server's return to let us know they were all out of Ketel One, Grey Goose AND Belvedere). The ginger beer in my Moscow Mule seemed flat and lacking in taste. A diner at the next table agreed. We both told the waiter. He said it was probably the bottom of the keg, but never offered to bring us a new one from the fresh keg. A table that ordered their food after us received their food long before us. The waiter was sorry, but that was it. The food was good, but not as spectacular as I was expecting. I'd like to give it another try to see if this was just a fluke. Loved the atmosphere of the place."
