A word from Root Down
Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.

Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.

At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

  • "The service was excellent as not only did our waiter take very good care of us but any wait staff near by was quick to refill drinks and attend to any needs we had. The 56 hour ribs were amazing although the portion was a little smaller than I expected. Regardless, it left room for dessert. Dinner for two including an app, 2 entrees, dessert, and coffee cost me about $100. Very reasonable."

  • "Root Down continues to be our favorite restaurant in the entire Boulder/Denver area. Our most recent visit (our third this year) occurred because we had a house guest from Atlanta who specifically asked ahead of time to go there again. The arepas, scallops, and croissant bread pudding were tasty standbys, as expected and the green risotto and baked Alaska, new on the spring menu, were equally terrific. We've never known Root Down to have an off night (or an off day), and we're thankful for its always-inventive menu, consistent preparations, and friendly, enthusiastic service. Bravo!!"

  • "I was hoping for more from their brunch menu. I am a loyal Root Down dinner customer and love their Raw Food night. This was my first time for brunch and I have to say, I wasn't wow'd by my meal. I had the banana bread French toast and it tasted fried. It's possible it said that it was on the menu and I missed it, but I wasn't expecting it and was disappointed. With that said, the group I was with very much enjoyed their meals and none of them had what I had so I do believe it is just a preference thing. I'm honestly just not used to not liking something at Root Down. For as many times as I've gone there everything has always been delicious."

  • "I was told by a friend if I was going to Denver (I live in Aspen) that I must go to Root Down. Even though at first it seemed I wouldn't be able to get a reservation for a Saturday night, we got in for an 8:30 reservation. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, the restaurant had great dim lighting, not so dark that you couldn't see the menu/ what you were eating. We started with the kale and spinach salad (with bacon) this was my favorite dish, followed by the Diver Scallops, the Lemon Ricotta Gnocchi, we also had the Steelhead Trout - the food was incredible. Desert was croissant bread pudding. Root Down crushed it. SO GOOD!"

Our waiter Bill was extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the food, drinks and wine. The service to us and the other patrons was consistent, as Bill took the time to answer all questions and to build a relationship with us. Bill is our favorite! We would dine here every day if we could!"

I'm gluten-intolerant, so it is wildly exciting to find such delicious, healthy, beautiful, local food (okay, bananas aren't local, but lots of other aspects of the menu are). The ambiance is also a treat--a few days later I am having happy flashbacks about our time at Root Down."

The food was amazing (highly recommend the meatballs and lamb sliders), drinks were delicious (must try the blackberry smash - even if you're not a whiskey drinker), and the service was outstanding.   • "We are from out of town but often visit our daughter and our son-in-law in Denver. We ate here during an early dinner on a Sunday. We went with the prefix menu. Our favorites were the sweet potato falalel and brussel sprout kale salad. So delicious! The entrees were great as well. It was an extremely busy place even for that early in the evening. We had a great server who kept us waited on even with all her tables. It was an enjoyable evening."

  • "Had an amazing dining experience at Root Down. It is everything and more that the various reviews say about the food. Because we waited til the last minute to book a table, we were fortunate to snag a great seat at the bar. Kudos to David, the bartender. The 'team' working the bar moved effortlessly to take care of the drinks-only scene as well as the many who were eating. But the FOOD... wow. We started with the beet salad... amazing. Then we moved to the Lemon Ricotta Gnocchi... light and fresh. To finish the meal we shared the Colorado Ranch Meatballs. From start to finish, we were never disappointed with the presentation, the blending of flavors and the overall fresh taste. It is a gem of a restaurant for sure. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "I have been to Root Down a number of times and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is busy but not crowded and the food is amazing. For brunch I always get the Root Down Benedict for two reasons it's has amazing flavor and it is different from any other Benedict you have ever had. I tried the Banana bread french toast this time as and it was melt in your mouth good and so much banana flavor. The Chai tea is nice and spicy and the blood orange mimosas are just the right way to start a day. This place is a must for anyone looking for something fun and different."

  • "Ive eaten at root down over 10 times since it opened, I frequent most of denver's foodie spots regularly. I have seen many "it" restaurants come and go, they have their moment in the sun, but root down has endured. It is consistent in excellent food quality. We were a table of five and ate family style- of the 10+ small plates that came out in total not one was dissapointing and some were really outstanding- gnocchi, the pork, surprisingly the chicken is great too. Love this place- the vibe is fun the food is great. I'll be back."

  • "We selected this restaurant, in part, because one of our diners is vegetarian and the menu has a great selection of vegetarian items - unlike many restaurants that feature just one obligatory veg item. This is a great menu for sharing. Our group selected 8 items (2 per person as recommended by our waiter). This was probably one item too many for our group - we were just too full to really enjoy the last item. But everything was delicious and I highly recommend it. The one minor flaw was that we were seated in a small area, off the host station, and separated from the rest of the restaurant. I would prefer next time to be in the heart of the action - or definitely in warmer weather, on their great outdoor deck."
