A word from Root Down
Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.

Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.

At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

I love how the menu changes often to reflect what's in season. You know you aren't getting frozen or canned food here! Salad dressing compliment the salad, not dominate it. Had lamb sliders and the accompanying dips were lightly flavored, again, not overpowering. The lamb was cooked perfectly. Friends had salmon and scallops, both prepared excellently. The salmon was moist and flaky. The scallops weren't overcooked (which happens too often). We had an italian pinot grigio with the meal which complimented it quite well. Great service too.

We took our baby to Root Down for her first birthday. We made a reservation for 6 people a month in advance, and at the last minute needed to add 2 more surprise visitors. Root Down was willing and gracious to accommodate our expanded group- the service, atmosphere, and food were all amazing. Our waitress recommended something for my baby to eat, which she loved. We had a wonderful time and I can't wait to go back!

I've been to root down many times since moving to Denver. This last dining experience was the worst. Our server was completely inattentive, and we often had to track other people down for drinks and to clear plates. When I did see our server, he was not paying attention to us, and I had to stand up and ask him to order, for water, etc. I'll give RD another chance, but I'll gladly find another favorite if this happens again.

I love Root Down but this last visit was a disappointment. Our "mocktail" was awful, and 3 of our 5 dishes were not up to par or anywhere as good as previous Root Down experiences. It was uncomfortably hot and the server said they turn on the air when it gets really hot. It was 97 degrees.

This is my favorite restaurant in Denver. Love the food - love that they have their own garden produce. The beet salad is a personal favorite. And there is nothing better in the world than a passion-fruit caramel! It's my go-to place- went there for my anniversary, go there with my favorite people, and it's what I recommend to my friends.

This is my 3rd or 4th time eating at Root Down. The food is always tasty, interesting, and well prepared and the service has usually been spot on. While the food during our most recent visit was great, the service was so strange/disappointing I would reconsider whether I would dine there again. We shared several small plates and the timing of their arrival was off, waiters were slow to pick up dirty plates, refill drinks or acknowledge the slowness of the food. As a former waitress, I understand that quality of service can be just as important as the quality of the food, and in this regard, Root Down failed.

After wanting to try Root down for several months, we finally made it out for an early dinner with my two year old in tow. We had a wonderful time sitting on the patio, eating unique and wonderfully tasty dishes and enjoying delicious cocktail and mocktails. The wait staff was all very welcoming and kind to our daughter which isn't always the case in trendy joints. We were out of there just in time for the big rush of people and before the toddler had a chance to melt down after too much sweet pea mint ice cream for dessert. I would absolutely dine here again!

This is one of my favorite places in Denver! I have Celiac Disease, so their Gluten Free menu makes life a whole lot easier. I have not had a bad meal at Root Down and also enjoy eating at the Root Down at the air port. The Almond Flour pancakes are to die for! It was busy and crowded, but they seated us right away and we were seated on the patio! Great views of downtown. Overall, a very enjoyable meal!

On our weekly tour of dining out we finally made it to Root Down. We are only sorrier we did not get here sooner for dinner. We were promptly seated and greeted by Amy our server. She outlined what the specials were and in finding out she was a former East Coast person like us she encouraged us to order the scallops. She was spot on. The best cooked scallops we have had since moving here. Very silky on the inside and a nice crust on the exterior. All the appetizers were well cooked and seasoned and the plating sequencing was timely. Leave room for desert as the creme brulee was terrific.

After hearing so much raving about the good, our expectations were very high for our first visit. And they were still met, by an abundance of tastiness! It was a early Tuesday night at 530 and still packed. Waitstaff was kept very busy, but our food still arrived in good time. Manager was very attentive, especially when I told her about this being my wife's birthday, brought us a dessert! Best food we've had in awhile.

We had a lovely time. I had put a note on Open Table that it was our anniversary and we wanted a more private table. When we arrived they wished us a happy anniversary, gave us a card and a champagne toast. Beyond the treatment, the food was SO GOOD- flavors were so beautifully blended. Went for a birthday lunch as we couldn't get a dinner reservation until after 9pm. Was informed at the table that they only serve brunch on Sunday, which seemed okay but limited the menu selections. Really loud, but food and service was good. Will have to try to get a dinner reservation and compare the two visits so I can give a more balanced/fair evaluation.

I have had several friends give great personal reviews of Root Down. With such positive commentary, you expect a lot and they did not disappoint! The beet salad was fantastic (loved the combination with goat cheese and hazelnuts), and my friend & I split 2 share plates which were also incredible (arepas & scallops). Great flavors and unexpected pairings of ingredients made for fresh and tasty plates! And dessert - delish - chocolate cookie crumbles, coconut ice cream, salted caramel foam, and some kind of chocolate mousse-like amazement with a thin sheet of salted chocolate on top. It was all wonderful!

Root Down is always good! This was our 4th visit here. If we lived in CO I am sure we would come here at least once a month. You can't go wrong with any of the food. The tapas are the way to go. They truly are made for sharing. And if there aren't enough sliders on the plate to share, the food server will suggest to order more. It's one of those meals where every time you take a bite of food you go, "hmmmm!" Drinks are great and if you're really into trying new drinks they have some unique choices. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. Love, love, love this place!
