A word from Root Down
Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.

Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.

At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Every time we have something special to celebrate, we make a night of it at Root Down. The service and food are always the best around, and the seasonal menu always brings us a new adventure in flavors. The corn risotto is not to be missed this summer! (Also, don't miss the gnocchi, the mussels, the salmon, the arepas, the devils on horseback, and the sweet corn ice cream!) In short, order a bit of everything, share plates and be amazed at the diverse flavors swirling in your mouth to make something perfect.

Although the soup and shared plate were very good, the tofu main course was extremely over salted and possibly one of the worst main courses I've ever eaten in a restaurant. The rest of my table enjoyed their food, however, one who ranks Root Down as her favorite restaurant, said that the evening's meal was not at all up to their usual standards and that her salmon was overcooked to the medium she had requested. Overall I'm very disappointed based on what I had heard of Root Down.

Root Down is all about excellent food. We had mussels, filafel, scallops, and lamb sliders. All artistically prepared, beautifully presented. Service was friendly and efficient. (But why do servers everywhere feel compelled to tell you everything they're going to do? "I'm going to pour you water now." "I'll put your order in and bring your cocktails". Yeah, sorta guessed you would). Fairly casual place. Servers wears jeans. Patio was lovely when we went, end of September.

Our first visit and the food was very good and waiter attentive. However with the unlimited mimosas too many people were very obnoxious and spilling drinks. Thus making the restaurant extremely noisy.

I just went to Root Down for the first time this past week and I am doing a paleo and sugar free diet right now. They totally complied and the waiter was amazing in suggesting things they could do in the kitchen to satisfy my needs. We sat on the patio, and had a great view of downtown. The place was chosen for a birthday celebration and it was just lovely. I'm highly recommending this spot and loved the neighborhood as well.

As expected from previous experience, dinner at Root Down was fabulous in every way. THe scallops were a bit too salty, but even they still went down! I wondered if the Root Down owners/managers have ever inquired into the possibility of appealing to RTD for a slight route change in the evening bus traffic on the corner of 32nd? Just an idea. The buses intermittently come through and the noise is deafening for a moment or two on the patio. It's an urban scene and site so you're going to have this, but, who knows, if the right word here or there might mitigate some of the noise from the buses.

Root Down is still delicious and the cocktails are some of the best in Denver. However, the menu hasn't changed and all the servers are too good to be serving you, which is unfortunate when you're trying to have fun. Lighten up Root Down - you are not untouchable!

I was told to check out Linger while in Denver, but it was untouchable for the day I wanted. I was given Root Down as an alternative and it was just what we were looking for. Great food, excellent service, a bit out of the way and a little funky, to boot. I asked for a quiet corner as it was a business dinner on this occasion. They were very accommodating and willing to give us a bit more privacy. This is a must, must place to visit as I know it will quickly become a favorite to all.

Root Down is our brunch go to when we have guests in town, and this confirmed it's status. Service was friendly, informative and prompt. We went at 10am and avoided a completely packed house. I had the Bistro Steak & Eggs and I must say it was INCREDIBLE. The Chimmichurri sause was so flavorful, and the plantain/black bean/pico tower that comes on the side is equally tasty and satisfying. Portions are generous but not over the top. Everyone left happy, satiated, and raving about Root Down.

The best dinner we have had in Denver! The dishes were thoughtfully created and delicious beyond words. The best peach bruschetta ever!!! I can't even begin to describe how full and flavorful the corn risotto was; I could have eaten another bowl had it not been for all the other delicious offerings. Great, considerate of cost, wine list. Really, do what ever you can to get a reservation!

My wife and I have been coming here for the last 5 years or so, usually for a birthday or anniversary. Though it's a special occasion place for us, that is not to suggest pretentiousness or overly-done. Root Down has matured past whatever high-brow-hipster-LoHi assumptions you might have. It is simply consistently excellent - in food, service and experience. We have eaten at more "chic" (read: expensive) places but nowhere have we had the same eye-brow raising experiences with FLAVOR and TASTE as we have at Root Down. Their staff have simply a knack for combining ingredients into novel (but not post-modern) dishes that are succulent, vibrant, and deeply satisfying. Such consistency and craft is rare, even now in Denver's raging resto scene!

i booked through open table online since we were visiting from out of town and filled out the special request form asking for some kind of special surprise for my husband's birthday. after seeing the table next to us get a dessert w/ candle, i was expecting the same. that didn't happen. also earlier in the meal, our waiter did not tell us anything was sold out so we placed our order for scallop app & were later told they don't have it which was a huge let down. waiters are supposed to tell you these things up front so you're not forced to come up w/ a second rate choice on the spot... aaaand they didn't do anything to comp that either.

The food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is comfortable (we dined al fresco during the evening, and had a view of downtown Denver), service was friendly and helpful.
