Diner Reviews
  • "I love Rooster's SouthPark, and this was the first time I've visited the Uptown location. We ordered several dishes - the featured pasta of the day was delicious! The pan-fried corn and sweet potato hash were over-seasoned (the first too peppery, the second too salty), and our scallops were cold. We also had the banh mi and pork belly from the bar menu - the bread on the former was stale and the meat was tough, but the pork belly sandwich was good and spicy. The food at the SouthPark location never disappoints, so I was a bit surprised that Uptown didn't deliver the same consistency."

  • "Enjoyed lunch very much. The sandwich was fresh, chicken was great and was happy to get a lite side of spinach instead of fries. My server was excellent and very attentive throughout the service."

  • "Not as good as the original at SouthPark. But close."

  • "Loved this place!!! Brought my extremely picky parents here and they were very impressed. The food was great, service was awesome and we loved the atmosphere. Great drink selection as well!"

  • "As always this restaurant never seems to fail us. We dine out approximately two to three times a week in the Charlotte area. We attend the Blumenthal Theater uptown frequently and have tried dining at other restaurants before attending the show. Roosters is our favorite! The food is exceptional and on this visit our server was Awesome! (Jimmy) He recommended a terrific wine with our meal that we really enjoyed. And the coconut cake was divine! Our server made sure we had plenty of time to arrive to the show. Enjoyed the entire night out."

  • "Went with a friend for the first time to Roosters for dinner and drinks. I throughly enjoyed the myself. The staff was great, and the service was on time. My only note is the Half Chicken I order was a not flavorable. I will definitely eat at Roosters again, but i will not order the Half Chicken."

  • "Food was excellent both sides and entree, portion size of Entree I felt was very small for the price ($17 for 5 small scallops) and a small rectangle appetizer plate of shrimp for my husband. The sides portions are enough to share and were delicious (onion rings, beets, and au gratin potatoes). The whole experience being that the menu was a ala carte style made the meal quite expensive. Flavors were delicious. You know when there is no salt and pepper on the table food will be well seasoned and it was. I'd appreciate the entree coming with a side or two for the price and feel that would be more appropriate and would draw me back sooner."

  • "A friend and I wanted to try out some new food places in Charlotte and we pass this restaurant a lot and decided to give it a try. The food was delicious. I tried the BBQ Meatloaf, and yes I generally do not eat anyone's meatloaf but my mother's, but this was a steal! Crispy and full of flavor. The quality of the food and the price is amazing and appreciated; we'll be going back."

  • "Although, we had a great time with our friends...we were very disappointed in the inconsistency of portions served. Two people, at this table of 5, ordered salmon. Our female server was brand new to the restaurant so I cannot blame her entirely; however, if I had served her what she served me...she probably would have had the same reaction. My piece of salmon was so obviously smaller than my friend's son, approximately total of maybe 3 bites, 4 at maximum. I asked how much the salmon was suppose to weigh and the server was not sure. The manager came and ridiculously said it was the same amount (in ounces as per chef), as if I was a born idiot. He offered as my further disagreement continued "to take off a few dollars." Gee, thanks!"

  • "My "Customer" group gathered downstairs in bar prior to dinner. Very slow and non-attentive service, half of my customers got drinks, the waiter walked past us several times but seeing that the others did not have drinks. Finally said, let's go sit down upstairs early and get a drink there. Upstairs waiter was spot on, immediatley getting orders and getting cocktails to the table fast. Best part of the service, waiter did not say "my personal favorite" when suggesting a wine which in most cases is the most expensive."

  • "The food was outstandingly flavored, however the serving sizes were tiny. Specifically, the salmon was about 4 ounces. Disappointing for the $$."

  • "The food was very good and we were seated without an issue even though we had arrived 30 minutes earlier than our reservation time. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful."

  • "This visit was a catch up with an old friend. We both had the hanger steak. It was wonderful. The meat was perfectly cooked and just melted in the mouth. The sides were plentiful. I really like the succotash. I will be back again."

  • "Chose this place to take a friend out for her birthday. Have previously been to the SP location so thought we'd try it Uptown instead. Never disappoints. Food was amazing! My dining partner was a little disappointed with her molten cake...no goo in the middle. Otherwise a great experience would definitely recommend to anyone that goes, get some veggies! always fresh."

  • "I got a cobb salad and it seemed like a "deconstructed" version but it didnt say that on the menu and it didnt make much sense. But the person I was with liked theirs."

  • "This was our first trip to Roosters Uptown and there were four in our party. We ordered drinks, appetizers and a main course (each). The duck breast was very good, cooked to perfection (med-rare). Meat and cheese appetizer trays are also quite good with a good variety of choices. Now for the downside/slowness --- The service was very, very slow (it took over 2 hours to get our drinks and food) - we almost missed getting to our event at Blumenthal on time ... only made it on time because we had to urge the wait staff to hurry (yes, we told them at the beginning that we had a deadline). Had to ask for bread multiple times. One of the chicken dishes was very dry. I would not recommend Roosters Uptown to anyone who has a deadline."

  • "We had a large group in from out of town. We headed to Rooster's thinking it would appeal to the various taste buds we had in the group and it did not disappoint. The NC shrimp were good, but not great and lacked the flavor I was hoping for. Otherwise, the vegetables, roasted chicken, macaroni and cheese and a variety of vegetables didn't disappoint. The charcuterie tasting was good too. Our server was a bit rude which I could have done without, but otherwise a good experience."

  • "It was good but much too expensive for the quality AND quantity of the food."

  • "If you love good, locally grown, food then Rooster's uptown is for you! The menu selections are unique and we've enjoyed trying lots of different items...even ones we can't pronounce. The staff is freindly and knows the answers to all our questions. The ambiance is relaxing even though the noise level can be a little loud. The food is excellent and I've never had anything I didn't like. I would recommend Rooster's to anyone."

  • "It was a very nice restaurant, the hostesses were very accommodating when half of our group was late, they kindly move our reservation time for us & seated us as soon as everyone arrived. The waiters was also very attentive & allowed for a really nice evening. I also ibed how she didn't rush us."

  • "First time visiting this establishment and had an early reservation so we could get to a 7:30 show. The menu is not lengthy but the choices were wide ranging. From the appetizer to the dessert it was an excellent experience. We were not rushed although the food came out quickly. No complaints here, loved it!"

  • "Service is typically very good. Unfortunately service was horrible this week. Waitress did not know menu and could not explain any dish questioned about. Neglected to deliver starters before lunch (actually forgot about them). Seemed disinterested. Just bad service overall."

  • "It wasn't creative food, but it was purely delicious. The sides were outstanding. Overall, it was just a wonderful meal. Almost 5 stars."

  • "One of my faves in Charlotte. Keeps me coming back. The chicken liver mousse, the duck confit, the wings, all delicious. The fried onion rings, succotash, the yukon puree, yum! Love this place."

  • "Food was fresh and well-cooked, portions were small but flavorful so satisfying ... but diners with large appetites might not be content. I had eaten here once before and this experience was very consistent."

  • "A party of four dined before a show. We had plenty of time. We were never rushed. However, the food was acceptable. I had high hopes. We had eaten at another Rooster's. Alas, this was not to be. Every error was corrected and adjusted. Dry chicken (not good for a their specialty), cooler than room temperature Polenta, cooled Green Beans all made me change to the daily special. The wait staff and the management did well in meeting our needs and correcting these matters. I believe we were too early for them to be ready. It seemed they rushed the food."

  • "Overall, the food was good, but not great. The kale ceasar salad was very nice. The sauce used on both on the mushroom and mushroom pasta dishes was tasty, but also very salty. The caramel cake was dry."

  • "The food and service were very good. However the noise will make me think twice before returning."

  • "Went on a Saturday night and enjoyed the dinner very much. It was pretty loud but the food was excellent throughout. The menu is a la carte with separated mains and sides. Surprised me since I hadn't done my research ahead of time. That made the tilefish special a pretty good deal as it included a nice portion of wonderful vegetables. Everything we had was terrific, especially the mussels. Ask for extra bread for the broth, and don't be embarrassed about it."

  • "Chef Joe and his team are still providing great food and service. The specials give options for those of us that know and love the standard menu but want something different. Great seasonal specials."

  • "I've been to Rooster uptown many times and each time I am impressed by the quality if the ingredients, the preparation, and presentation of the meals. It all results in a very enjoyable and healthy meal. They also have a good wine selection."

  • "The oysters were wonderful! Only reason giving food 3 stars is b/c the scallops were all different sizes, visually not appealing, but was pleasantly surprised when I tasted them. Excellent!"

  • "Another awesome dinner at Rooster. We just love the place and try to go as often as we can. The Salmon is outstanding, the wine list has some real gems for reasonable prices."

  • "We were extremely excited to try out this place being that we have walked passed it on numerous occassions while heading to other venues. We had a group of four on a fairly busy Saturday night. They seated us quickly however, of waitress took a while to even acknowledge that we were sitting there. Drinks were ok, food was not. I ordered the beef rib and it showed up very burnt and tasted like pot roast!!!! very very bad."
