Diner Reviews
  • "I have dined at both Room 39 locations and always enjoy the experience. The servers were friendly and made helpful suggestions, like adding Baileys to the chai lattes. Yummy! The ambience is great for lunch , a good spot to meet friends. I would recommend it."

  • "The food was outstanding and for lunch, there were good portions for the price. They close at 2 for lunch so come early."

  • "Room 39 never misses a beat. Their 4-course offering at $39 gives diners a great way to try more courses than they normally would at an appropriate amount of food. The cheese flight is extraordinary and our waitress was able to give us an in-depth explanation that not only described it but sold it. The list of creative cocktails and wines are extensive, but I always order my favorites (Quackatini and Creme de Lys Chardonnay). My friends and I had a wonderful experience."

  • "The food at Room 39 never disappoints. The brunch is exceptional and I especially recommend the quiche and strawberry goat cheese pancakes. My husband does not eat dairy and they always create something yummy for him."

  • "Our second experience dining at Room 39 in Leawood, and it did not disappoint. A cute, quiet dining room with attentive serive and wonderful food. The sauteed chicken liver appetizer was one of the best we've had. The octopus appetizer was very tasty as well, although we would prefer it if the octopus was left in larger pieces. The duck and skate entrees were very good with well appointed sides."

  • "Food here is usually wonderful, but this time, everything was a tad overcooked. We still had a good time, and the service was top-notch. We'll look forward to a perfect meal next time."

  • "Delicious, creative menu utilizing many local foods. Wish they would offer a few more half portions. Excellent trout...portion for 2. wonderful homemade pasta. C"

  • "We were very please to find a menu with all local or area farmers ingredients. The menu was not extensive, but had something for everyone. It was very hard for everyone at my table to decide what to choose. Everything looked fantastic. We all opted for the 4 course option. While we were a little skeptical that the portion migh leave us hungry, when we were served each coure, there was more than ample portions and by dinners end, we are all nicely full. The only entre that was a little dissapointing was duck, which lacked a little favor, but cooked perfectly. The waitress was great and service was excetional and the prices were very reasonable. We plan on going back soon and will certainly recommended this little gem to all."

  • "Had a birthday lunch for a friend and my sister joined us. They were both very late. Our waitress was so patient with us. We stayed too long but had a very nice time. The Vouvray was great. Thankyou"

  • "I ordered soup and the burger and fries, and it was served altogether!!!!! I like soup first. I ordered a glass of syrah for $8.00 and I was billed for a cote du Rhone at $11.00, (bill was corrected at my request) Good service is a very important part of dining out."

  • "It's no surprise that even on a night when sleet and 5-9 inches of snow were predicted, most of the tables at Room 39's Leawood location were full. Because one can count on always getting a delightful dinner and because the atmosphere is both elegant and relaxed, patrons tend to come back again and again. Our meal of soup and appetizers was delicious and filling. Our intention was to save room for dessert, but somehow, the space evaporated before we got to that point. It was a lovely place to spend a frigid evening."

  • "The service ruined the food and the occasion. Left very unhappy and sad as I love the restaurant."

  • "The Sunday brunch was too crowded and the staff was obviously overwhelmed. Much too long to wait for service and the food...like an hour...and it was not a good experience. We have always loved Room 39, and will return, but this one was not memorable."

  • "My wife and I have been to Room 39 (both locations) several times. I'm always pleased with the combination of creativity and excellence we find. Lovely evening."

  • "The food was good, but not great. My steak (ordered medium) came out well done. They did not have any ice cream for desserts because of a problem with their freezer. We sat at our table for quite a while (maybe 10 minutes) before anyone even greeted us. We ordered decaf coffee, but based on the fact that neither my husband nor I slept that night, I think they brought us caffeinated."

  • "We went here for Valentines Day Weekend. The Physical space was one room with concrete floors which made it very loud. Our waitress was friendly and appeared to know the menu very well. We started with the calamari which was good. I had the trout which was just okay. My boyfriend ordered the strip and he said it was the worst he has ever had. He didn't bother finishing it because he said it had no flavor and wasn't worth the effort to chew it. He ordered a goat cheese dessert with a caramel soup and it was very good. I ordered the bread pudding and it didn't have any flavor. Overall we had some items that were good but they were canceled out by the other items that had no flavor. For a $150 diner we wanted something better than "fair.""

  • "This is the perfect place for a Saturday breakfast with friends or family. Food and service is excellent and in the spring and fall the patio is a nice place to enjoy a meal."

  • "We should go to Room 39 more often. The atmosphere is pleasant, the rare restaurant where you can hear your companion talk without having to shout, even with music in the background. Our meals were excellent. I had lamb beautifully prepared medium rare with a lovely sauce and brussels sprouts that I liked. My husband had tortilla soup and surprisingly delicious gnocchi. Main courses are in the $25-$35 range. There were so many delicious sounding appetizers and salads and soups that I wished I could have four or five courses. They have a tasting menu of four courses that might have been helpful there. A lovely place for a special occasion. We had a very festive birthday dinner for 6 there a while ago and it was delightful."

  • "Excellent brunch menu, my favorite is the salmon scramble. Service was ok with a bit of a disappearing act after the food was served so drinks were not refreshed. The beignets must be very popular because the waiter had to return after our order to say they were out of the item. So there's the reason to return...their goat cheese beignets!"

  • "From the fantastic cocktails (try the Quakentini), great wine list (big, buttery Chards and more) and astounding menu, the Leawood Room 39 can not be beat. The evening we were there, there was a duck hot and sour soup, short rib stuffed ravioli, trout stuffed with butternut squash and a local apple cobbler. Absolutely can't be beat on a cold winter's evening."

  • "Room 39 is a solid choice for a good lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is great and the restaurant is on the smaller side (20 tables) so get a reservation if you're going at a busy time. Gnocchi was great! Give it a try."

  • "For our group of 6, we look at everything for the whole experience. Food should stand out but it doesn't if the service doesn't back it up. We had good service and the food matched. All 6 liked what we ordered and we had a variety from Salads to Stroganoff, Brussell Sprouts,Chicken Livers, to the Desserts - personally love those Goat Cheese Beignets, of which we tried 4. Nice too was the fact that we didn't feel rushed."

  • "It was refreshing to go to a restaurant that was intimate. No bar which cut the noise. The service was great. I had the trout and exchanged squash for the fabulous brussels sprouts. We are picky eaters so check the menu out first. It's not the restaurants fault that I would not eat one of their salads. My husband loved his salad. It's nice to be able to make reservations. This is a great place for table or 4 however there was a party of 14."

  • "The food was fantastic and completely locally sourced. The service was great and the servers were very knowledgeable. The food was worth the price, it was just a little more than we were expecting."

  • "Where do I start...for a restaurant that calls themselves fine dining, start with the cheap metal chairs. The "runner" brought my husband's soup, which was slopped all up and over the bowl with NO spoon. He had to ask for one and she said, sorry I tripped coming out of the kitchen. Well, go back in the kitchen and wipe it off and get another spoon! The the same "runner" brought our dinner and she dropped the ENTIRE plate in my lap. Another server grabbed napkins for me to wipe myself off. I was covered, the table was covered, it was HORRIBLE. The restaurant was noisy and not romantic at all. VERY DISAPPOINTED and will never return and will not recommend this restaurant."

  • "Love the atmosphere at Room 39, but the food -- at least, around breakfast time at the Mission location -- was so disappointing. The pancakes and French toast were so dry that two of us couldn't even finish eating them. Potatoes had no seasoning. Our server poured us coffee and then never returned to the table to check on the food or offer refills. The atmosphere at Room 39 is wonderful -- I had high hopes, as I do love the vibe inside and have heard their food is typically good. But Room 39 needs to examine their menu and determine if they really can meet the demand of people flowing in for breakfast with the types of dishes they are offering."

  • "We dined at Room 39 as our last restaurant of KC Restaurant Week 2014. We compared places we had experienced during the last week. Between my girlfiriend and I we had dined at 8 different restaurants. We agreed that Room 39 was the best of all. Great selection on the special RW menu, something you don't always find during RW. Large portions, super presentation, fantastic service. Food cooked just to our liking and arrived at just the right time. Certain that we will return. Good special wine selections also and reasonably priced."

  • "We went to Room 39 for restaurant week and were very satisfied. I had the sparerib and my husband had the trout. Both were excellant and prepared different than we have had before. It is a very welcoming place."

  • "We had the best time out in years. We started with the trio of cheeses which we shared. The cheeses are served with balsamic caramelized onions, tomato/ginger puree, and cherry mustarda along with flat bread. All were delicious. The house made pappardelle was perfect. Everything was exceptional including our server, Lucas, who was on point! He didn't hover or stop by to ask how the food was. He knows the food is good. He did keep a watchful eye from a distance and was there when a glass or cup needed refilled. We get annoyed when servers stop by every five minutes and interrupt the flow of conversation. Gold medals for everyone who made the evening a wonderful success!"

  • "We visited the Room 39 in Mission Farms during Restaurant Week. The décor was very quaint with tables and sturdy chairs. The roasted brussel sprouts appetizer was the best version of brussel sprouts I've ever enjoyed. The coq au vin with root vegetables was superb. I am sure I want to return."

  • "Two of us had lunch during Restaurant Week. We enjoyed our meal but our entree's arrived before our soups! As it turned out, the soup was hot enought that it was nice to have the main item while the soup cooled. However, the error was quite a surprise based on my previous visits there. Also, no bread was brought until we asked for it."

  • "Everything was very good overall but nothing really WOW'd me. We live in the city but drove all the way down to Leawood since we liked their restaurant week menu better. I'd definitely try this place out again....Midtown next time. The menu looks wonderful. My bf and I go out to eat quite a bit so hopefully next time, it'll knock our socks off. Note: Service was excellent!"
