We visited Room 39 for our anniversary last year and loved it so much we returned this year. Upon sitting down they wished us a Happy Anniversary---something they had saved in their computer system. That attention to detail, while to some may seem small, was a nice start to our evening. The food was delicious---do the four course tasting, fabulous food and the price is a steal! But the place itself is trendy and crowded, lots of energy. The only problem we had was excessively slow service--it took a long time for any of the friendly servers to pay any attention to us, either for drinks, bread, or food. The Sazeraks, when we got them were delicious, and so was the bread. We had one order of soft shell crab (with morels--Yeah!), two of rare tuna, and one of rare duck. Everyone enjoyed their food. The one dessert we shared, panna cotta, was small and delicious. We are from California, and will return to Room 39 if and when we return to Kansas City5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRoom 39 always has a deliciousRoom 39 always has a delicious menu, and while some may feel there is not much to choose from as far as entrees, they do a great job at covering most bases so there is something for everyone. I was extremely delighted the night we dined to find a red-wine braised octopus on the menu served with white beans and a small amount of bacon. I have eaten octopus at many restaurants throughout the United States when I can find it on the menu, and I must say this was the best I have ever eaten. It was the most tender fish, not rubbery at all, which is most typically how I encounter it. The braising gave it not only the needed tenderness, but a depth of flavor I have not experienced. It was great.
