  • Not a particularly good restaurant!

Actually, this restaurant's only saving grace is that it is conveniently located for folks who have Kennedy Center tickets. Otherwise, the food is quite overpriced, the waiters are a bit in need of fine-tuning, and the ambience is lacking.

My girlfriend and I dined at the Roof Terrace prior to watching 'Florencia in the Amazon' in the opera house below. Our server was relatively cold, and unfriendly, noting that 'we should have showed up earlier' because of our showtime ( we were over an hour early, and finished with 30 minutes to spare, so I don't know what he was smoking). The food was traditional american fare, I opted for a steak. It wasn't bad, but certainly didn't do much to justify the rather massive bill. In all, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you happen to be going to a show at the Kennedy center , you would do a lot better finding food elsewhere before heading there.

I've read mixed reviews on this restaurant. We were taking my visiting cousin to the opera and decided to go there for the convenience of it's location. I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality as were all in the party. Prices were a bit high though. Some reviews mentioned the wonderful vistas. We had a window table but could not see beyond the railing and shrubbery... one would have to walk out onto the terrace for a panoramic view of the city. All in all pleasant experience and would recommend it.

We were all surprised how good the food and service was! The reviews weren't that great, but it's convenient if you're going to a show at the Kennedy Center. We would absolutely go back again and we had a party of 6.

  • Great Brunch with a view

I went here for brunch in September and it was a great experience. The brunch is a self serve style with an omelet and dessert station. The dinning room is inside with glass walls which allows a lot of light in, however, you will not have a great view while you dine because the ledge is too high. The dining hall is a bit dated but it is the Kennedy Center. After we finished this all you can eat brunch, we strolled around the rooftop outside which had amazing views. My only suggestion for this place is to allow outdoor seating on days with great weather.

i thought the service was good for a buffet but didn't understand kitchen concept, since what was in kitchen might as well have been out front, omelette station was almost a disaster when chef caught cloth napkin on fire. Liked biscuits but very small, ditto bacon, i thought the desserts also were way too small, even three were less than a cup of berries, mousse, etc so that could be improved for sure. Guests seemed to be seated too close together for my taste particularly since waiters weren't serving them, they were helping themselves to the buffet. Beverages were good though.

Seemed too much like a cafeteria setting . . . too many seats, too wide open. Also, the waiter was not very considerate. When we didn't order a drink, his demeanor changed. We were mostly ignored. I never got my refill when he asked if I wanted more coffee. Then it took ten minutes to get the bill after asking for it. The menu left something to be desired. Again, reminded me of cafeteria food. They served french fries (Frites)with the beef tenderloin, with no choice of a real potatoe. .

Before the show, I prefer to dine at the Kennedy Center rather than a neighboring restaurant...the food and service can't be beat. Our waiter moved things along - HE was actually keeping track of our time, suggesting that YES! We still had time to share a generous serving of some of the best creme brulee I've ever had!! (Beware - it goes by another name in Italian, I think)

The view, the view, the view. 360 degree views of Washington DC - large terrace surrounds the floor the restaurant is on. Right next to the Watergate Complex. Absolutely perfect place to stop for a full meal, quick bite or drink before the show. Food was good, and the staff was superb - very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Would definitely go back when in the area.

Chose the Roof Terrace because we had tickets to Pink Martini in the symphony hall. The menu selection and wine list were inspiring and our waiter, Theo, intuitive and efficient. We had an hour and a half window before the show and Theo paced everything perfectly. First courses for the two of us were the asparagus soup and the gazpacho, both flavorful and refreshing on this muggy day. Main courses were the gnocchi and the Maryland crab cakes with a side of grilled asparagus, all excellently prepared. Paired the gnocchi with a Sangiovese and the crab cakes with a Stags Leap Chardonnay. Skipped dessert for the sake of time but did not leave hungry.

The only reason to eat here is if you already parked for $23 and have tickets to an event. The price was too high for what we got and the food was just okay. We had one bottle of wine, three appetizers, four main courses and two desserts and the price was over $300. Way to high for a non spectacular meal.

Dinner at the Roof Terrace Restaurant and Bar should not be missed when in Washington, D.C. The Ambiance, the food, and the service was exceptional. We enjoyed the soothing wine from the amazing wine list. Our dinner was prepared perfectly, and the steaks were cooked just as we love. The Bib Lettuce Salad is outstanding with the combinations of flavors. When we return to Washington, D.C., we will definitely return for another incredible evening.

I took my friends whom I had not seen in thirty yrs for brunch followed by Lion King! The place looks as though it is not set as a restaurant. Tables were not made and the atmosphere was not warm. Food was setup in the kitchen! Dessert and omelette service was in the main room by the front entry! Dessert was always empty and had to ask for it. Not a place I would spend $ 40.00 p/p for brunch!

Went for Sunday brunch to celebrate a 60th Birthday and found the variety of food outstanding. Just a little surprised the food was set up and displayed in the restaurants kitchen area, going through what seemed more like a cafeteria style set up, where one had to trek to fill ones plate, instead of having it arranged in the dining room for easy access by patrons. Also shocked with the 23.00 parking charge! No parking validation available here.

We have been here many times and find it the most convenient for dining before a show at the Kennedy Center. The food is ok, not fantastic, and the service is good, so you can get in and out in an hour if necessary--we took 1 1/2. This time, the veal sweetbreads were quite good, but the asparagus soup was just so-so. The lamb chops were surprisingly un-lamby, more like beef, so if you like lamb, a disappointment. The lobster risotto was tasty. The wines at the restaurant are all overpriced with the cheapest red wine at $44. The Louis Martini which sells for $11.59 at Costco goes for $48 at the restaurant. That said, it's convenient, pleasant and easy for dining before a show.

My husband and I dined at the Terrace Restaurant before seeing The Lion King for our anniversary. The view is lovely (except when seated the shrubbery precludes seeing the cityscape!) and it is, of course, extremely convenient to the shows at the Kennedy Center. My husband was quite satisfied with his dinner (salmon), but for the price I found my Maryland crab cakes uninspired. If one is trying to figure out why they charge so much, it has got to be for the convenience and view, as the food did not compete with many other good restaurants around DC, let alone the city's many fine dining options. Would I recommend it? Yes, for that convenience and view, just don't expect a great meal, just a good one.

The wait staff seated us right away at a table with a nice skyline view. The placement of the food in the kitchen seemed a bit odd but it was presented nicely. The eggs Benedict was delicious! The selection of chocolate desserts was very nice with a cup of the great coffee. My only complaint would be the price, just too expensive. It would be nice to be able to choose from a menu.

Wonderful service, attentive and efficient; gets you to the show on time, happily full and unrushed. Nice by-the-glass wine list so you can explore by the course. The salmon is delicious and very well cooked, some of the best I've had. Gazpacho was refreshing and tasted like summer in a bowl, also enjoyed the tuna tartar on a previous visit. They move a remarkable number of people through to meet various show times, yet manage an unhurried atmosphere and very pleasant, "special" dining experience.

Had to ask for children's menu they were not offered.....Martini was served on a champagne glass.....Asked for a glass of wine, $14 and received what it would a 1/4 of a glass.....my server agreed that it was a very stingy pour.....he could not do anything about it. I spent $140 with tip for 2 children menu and 2 appetizers. I will never recommend the Roof Terrace. I remember how it was MANY years ago and now is below average.
