Diner Reviews
  • "I booked dinner here for my husband's birthday, with 10 of our friends/family, including two kids. The location is in a near deserted shopping center that looks like it used to be a hub of the neighborhood. The only thing that seems worth going to there now is Roo Bar! Once inside, though, the atmosphere is very nice, and the brick oven means the pizza will be good. Between us all, we all sampled a good amount of the menu. The pizzas were, indeed, great, as was the chicken chili, but the clam chowder was thin and not up to East Coast par, and the birthday boy's prix fixe meal seemed lacking. It was a small portion -- just two shrimp and a small piece of steak in his surf and turf. Service was pleasant and fairly consistent."

  • "We have gone here often. This weekend our son was visiting and he likes it also. There is something on the menu for every taste. We have never been disappointed."

  • "Went the other night for the first time and had a delicious dinner! Our entree choices were the pork chop, Roo burger, prosciutto and mushroom pasta, and the beet and goat cheese salad with scallops...all perfect, not one complaint! My friends and I will definitely be back to try more."

  • "Love the rustic environment, with a touch of class. The subtle woodsmoke smell nice. We will definately return."

  • "Went here on a Saturday night. Nice atmosphere, sat near the open stone ovens, noise level was normal & it was nice to not be sitting on top of everyone else for a change. My only disappointment was that pesto arancinis are listed on the menu online but were not on the menu when we got there. Tasty bread, generous wine servings. Had the seared tuna appetizer which was tasty & appropriately sized. Entrees - filet and blackened scallops - both tasty, decently sized portions. Not knock-your-socks-off good but solid. Would definitely return."

  • "RooBar is Consistent, the food is good, the service is very good. Nice atmosphere and very kid friendly. That being said there is nothing on the menu that says WOW! But that is ok, you need a good 'go to' place for consistency. Many more fancy and adventuresome places lack on the consistency factor. The only complaint I have is that the wine list is very short, maybe it is not that big a seller for them, but a more diverse list would be appreciated."

  • "We go here frequently on our own. This time we took out-of-town guest and, as we expected, everyone a great time. The food was good as was the service."

  • "My husband and I went with a friend for dinner on a Friday night. The food was excellent (tho they brought me the wrong plate first); well prepared and presented. The wine was good and service was excellent. It was nice to be able to have a good meal and conversation at the same time, with no Keno or television screen in sight. We've been several times and look forward to returning."

  • "very friendly graders and excellent wait staff. all of our entrees were very well prepared. Drinks and raw bar were excellent. The only item that came up a little short was the clam chowder which we found to be somewhat bland and in need of more clams. Overall all a very enjoyable meal."

  • "We have NEVER had a bad meal..good service, good wine, our favorite. The menu recently changed and my favorite salad was omitted, waitress made sure I could get it. I was extremely happy! My husband and I honestly believe this is one of the best restaurants around!"

  • "Went for dinner Memorial Day weekend. It was our first time at RooBar although other local family members have dined there often. We were seated promptly and the waitress took our drink order and answered a few questions. The margaritas met our expectations. The delay between drinks, and then dinner appearing was good. The restaurant is in an old mill style building, so it has some character. The bar scene was separated from the dining, area so we were fairly quiet. Our waitress was attentive and overall service was very good. I had the southwestern halibut special and although it was good the presentation was lacking. "

  • "Went to Plymouth for a wedding. Looked for a restaurant to meet my sister and brother-in-law for dinner the night before. Not from Plymouth area so searched on line and found this gem. Great atmosphere, service and food. We all chose different entrees and enjoyed everything. Would definitely return when in the area."

  • "Michael, the manager, was most accommodating. When I asked for a specific table with my reservation, he called me to let me know it was taken but offered another in its place. It worked out very well. Food is varied so choice can be made from comfort food and pizza to more upscale selections. "

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our first outing to RooBar. The scallops were the best I've had in years.. so tender and tasty! My husbands lobster ravioli was also a big hit. We made reservations, and were seated promptly. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant is very trendy in style, looking much like a Boston artist loft. Very relaxing evening. We will return!"

  • "We have dined at Roo Bar several times--the food and service are consistently good. The short ribs were tender and flavorful and a generous portion. The chocolate torte was delicious. They have a mid-week special of 3 courses for $21.99 that is hard to beat."

  • "We were disappointed to arrive and find that there was a buffet brunch rather than a regular menu. We wish that this had been posted on their website so we would have known. Loved the Bloody Mary Bar"

  • "Generally speaking the meals were priced about as I expected however my meal (filet & sea) was overpriced. The Pizza was fantastic and other meals were good and appropriately priced"

  • "RooBar has excellent food, and a great atmosphere as well. I got the blackened sea scallops, which were cooked properly and very delicious. Many places offer blackened sea scallops, not many cook them correctly, but RooBar nailed it. Service is always good and people are always very friendly. I've been there with just my wife, with the kids as well and with a larger group and been happy every time. The old cordage building is a very interesting environment as well. "

  • "I hadn't been there for many years, but decided to try it when I had a Groupon. The menu was great, very creative! We loved where we sat, a half circle of comfy bench seating, so no one behind us or bumping our seats. "

  • "My husband and I have a limited amount of places to go to eat because I am gluten free. We were pleasantly surprised to have a good variety on the menu that was gluten free:) the food was delicious! The waitress was adorable, very sweet and fast! We highly recommend RooBar and we can't wait to go back :) FYI my husband and I split pan seared scallops with mashed potatoes and gf pasta with chicken and veggies in a pesto. Both were equally delightful. "

  • "RooBar has a nice atmosphere. Love the bar and the big pizza oven up front. They had wonderful traditional Irish duet playing in the bar while we were having dinner in the dining room. The food though is mediocre at best. The tuna sashimi was horrible and had a fishy smell, they need to seriously upgrade their source of fish if they're going to serve sushi. The calamari was equally uninspiring. The pizza crust was too brittle. The sole was served soggy with a strangely sweet batter. Salads were ok. They need to bring in some help in the chef department. I personally would not go here to eat again, but would go for drinks and music."

  • "First visit many, many years ago to RooBar in Hyannis kept us from trying RooBar in Plymouth. Went there once with friends for a girls-night-out drink and am very glad I did. My husband and I have been back twice since. They always ask if you have a reservation, and while we weren't denied a table the first time around I recommend making a reservation anyway. The food is very good, and the service is friendly and helpful. When it's busy and there's music in the bar, the noise level is a bit much to try and have a conversation over (especially in the bar) but otherwise it's usually OK. Will definitely go back and recommend it to friends who haven't been."

  • "First time here and wouldn't be our last. The swordfish was perfect and my dinner companion was raving about it well after we left. My salmon with stir fried veggies was just ok, the salmon was cooked perfect but the stir fried veggies were just tri-color peppers. Other plus was that the RooBar had two choice of nonalcoholic beers, but on this Sunday night they were out of both."

  • "Had heard a bit of buzz about the food. We ordered the mussels which were excellent as well as the beet salad and that was very good. One diner ordered the seafood paella and it was an excellent version of the well known disk. Other diner ordered a pasta dish which was good. Ambiance was lively on the bar side and that was great."

  • "All of the staff was wonderful especially with the children at our table and another table that had a child related mishap. The elderly large group of ladies seated next to us drifted in slowly and had many requests with several special dietary needs. We were particularly impressed with their waitress as she handled all their questions with grace and patience; repeatedly. Every dish at our table was hot, delicious, large, and impressive. RooBar pizza is consistently a wood fired delight. This was our third time dining there and we'll be going more often."

  • "Myself and five others ventured to RooBar to celebrate my wife's birthday. We've been many times before and enjoyed the experience, but this time was painful. Amazing how dramatically poor service affects enjoyment. Our waitress, Gabby, was terrible. I waited literally 15 minutes for a draft beer; she claimed the bar was backed up when I reminded her. She forgot what one of our party ordered for a beverage and came back 5 minutes later to ask. One entree came out wrong. The total time for this dining experience: 2 hours, as we waited what seemed like an eternity for our main course to be delivered. And to top it all off, we received another party's bill. All hiccups were handled with a very laissez faire attitude - disappointed!"

  • "all went pretty well for our party of 4, seated quickly (we had a reservation), apps. / entrees / drinks and desserts all very good (but I would say the entrees are priced on the high side for what they are). The only glitch came when we ordered a second round of drinks - there was a significant delay before they arrived (we were basically done with our meals by the time the drinks got there). We almost sent them back but didn't want to make a big deal out of it. Our Waitress ( Juliette) was very nice and explained that the bar got "slammed" and just couldn't keep up. Overall a good experience, we will return."

  • "The owner was great and very accommodating to my food allergies. The food is inventive and very good. I liked that they offer some meals in two sizes. The desert is worth every bite. I always check out the desert menu first and this menu is actually worth skipping the delicious meal"
