Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent mexican food. Loved the tuna tostadas and the short rib tacos"

  • "We went to dinner with friends here after hearing good reviews of the food. Overall the meal was good. Our dishes were tasty. Although my chicken was dry. The filet is a good dish, but ask for it to be cooked one level less than you normally would as they overcooked ours. Also the caesar salad was swimming in dressing. For a place that comes across as more fine dining, they used thick beige diner china. Bright white is the current standard. Plus we were seated at a small table. Very difficult to fit 4 bread plates, 4 dinner plates, water glasses, wine glasses, S&P shakers, oil/vinegar cruets, etc. Not to mention the tapas we ordered. The wait staff were constantly joking with each other and loud . Like eating at Chili's."

  • "Im a Big fan of all of Javier Plascencias restaurants, one of The most valuables chefs in mexico. Romesco offers great Ingredients with Mexican flavors in a casual menú That is great for lunch & diner."

  • "Our Mother's Day lunch at Romesco was flawless. We ordered everything off the tapas menus, and every one of the dozen or so was just incredible. The service was on point. We had to order dessert, and they did not disappoint either. A wonderful experience all the way around. We will return. Highly recommended!!!"

  • "Romesco's has been getting some very good press lately--in CityBeat, etc.--and in our opinion it is fully deserved. We have eaten here at least four times and never been disappointed. We generally get tapas and the combinations of things and sauces have real depth. For my money this is the best Mexican (and I know it is only part Mexican) restaurant in San Diego County!!"

  • "Took a group of people to Romesco for my wife's birthday. The setting -a strip mall (ugh) was a little off-putting, but once inside the restaurant, it is easy to forget the location. Hector, our waiter, was efficient and professional and very polite without being overly friendly or pushy. He was familiar with the menu and was helpful with tapas and wine suggestions. All of the food was very good, with interesting flavor combinations and very well prepared. The dining atmosphere is casual, but with a European feeling. There was no effort to hurry our meal or to give us a sense that we were taking too much time. Prices are very reasonable for the food and service. All in all, we are very impressed "

  • "Food is always good but sometimes service is bad when they are too busy. It takes a long time for waiter to come back. But it is not all the time only when they are busy. "

  • "Lots of excellent choices if tapas and the tomato soup is now my favorite in town! The tostada with fresh tuna is a must! Super fresh and vibrant. We had to order another it was so good!"

  • "My second time to Romesco and have to say I can't wait to go back. Our waiter was great and we basically put down the menu and asked him what he would have. Each item he brought out was wonderful. Before we knew it we had been there for almost three hours and didn't once feel like he was rushing us. The food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. Think I have found my weekly dinner out!!"

  • "I've visited Romesco twice recently, but I couldn't make order the Mexican Wine, 'LA,Cetto Nebioro', which I like most, due to out of stock. I'd appreciate if Romesco can prepare it for the next visit, thank you. by Sam Otaki. "

Miriam Glez"

  • "Sunday menu is moderately priced for the level of quality you get. I ordered the lobster ravioli and was not disappointed. About the only thing that keeps Romesco from getting 5 stars was that it took a little too long to get my food."

  • "I would eat here again and again. I had a Deal Certificate to try the place out....they will get my continued business. The food was excellent. I had the Braised Short Rib, my fiancé had the Fettuccine and his sister had the Lobster Ravioli. All were excellent. The bread is fresh and chewy as a good baguette should be. The salad was good, as well. The place is beautifully decorated and small enough to be considered quaint, but it has definite expensive bistro vibe without feeling pretentious. If you haven't been...GO! NOW!"

  • "Romesco's is such a gem to our South Bay. We love just about everything about it and we appreciate how they are so family friendly with a simple menu for kiddos, but it's the parents that definitely benefit from all that is tasty here. Great wine list! Cocktails run on the sweet end for this diner, but otherwise, it's fabulous!"

  • "We been to Chula Vista since 2010 and never occurred to me that we have this kind of restaurant that I can always come back because of greatness of food. Recommended must go to this place!!! Awesome food..."

  • "The food was good but they didn't have the Paella that I wanted. The spaghetti was a lil dry compared to other times we visited. The service was to slow at the beginning."

  • "I don't know why it took us so long to get to this restaurant. I had heard good things about it for several years but the drive held us back from going there. I'm glad we finally took the excursion to South County. We had several tapas and they were as good as anything we had in Spain with a Mexican twist on several. Certainly better than some local restaurants that claim to serve authentic tapas. They also offer several Mexican wines from the Valle de Guadalupe which are hard to find in San Diego even though the area is only a two hour drive south. The service was a little off since they weren't expecting the crowd they got for lunch but our plates came out promptly and our water was regularly refilled. We would definitely return."

  • "Based on the referral from a foodie Tijuana, we made reservations and drove from an hour away to get this amazing restaurant! It was totally worth it and may have been the best food I've had in San Diego in like 25 years here. I was drawn to the Mediteranean Mexican food style and found it to meet my expectations and then some. Although you can't expect your food to come out at the same time, the operation is extremely well run, for as busy and small as this m restaurant is. However the service was four star and I cannot recommend it highly enough for an over-the-top, memorable, taste extravaganza!"

  • "We found the food to be amazing. There was clearly a lot of care and love in the details. Fantastic! Although the server was pleasant I would not say that attentive. We went completely dry on our beverages (for at least 5 minutes) at one point and needed to ask for the server to come to our table for assistance. Overall, the dining was very good and I am sure that we will return. I would strongly recommend this restaurant just for the cuisine alone."

  • "Romesco is a fantastic spot for a nice romantic dinner or Tapas. Picture a romantic dinner with your significant other with the ambiance is similar to New York or LA fine dining...The best part is the menu prices are totally reasonable!"

  • "I have always enjoyed and appreciated the attentive service of Romesco's staff. They are friendly, helpful, polite, and always willing to make the event a pleasant memory. The food choices will treat a wide array of palates and styles from the modern bistro to the traditional Mediterranean, i.e. Spanish dishes. We were greeted promptly at the door with the attention given to good friends. Our table was ready and seated immediately. There was time to relax and settle in before being asked for our drink order. The timing was perfect allowing enough time to begin the night's celebration with our friends and family. We were never rushed and the drinks, appetizers, and meal were timed perfect. Never too rushed, and never to long of a wait."

  • "Go and indulge in the meat and cheese plate, the ahi tostado, salmon and filet migon carpaccio, beef cheek tacos, .... I could go on and on. Think outside the box and have a great experience."

  • "First time going to dine at Romesco's and I will defiantly be returning. Opentable reservation was a great way to go. Walked in and was seated promptly - service was prompt and very friendly. Defiantly a great place for two or a family to enjoy. Food was really good."

  • "So, I've been to Romesco's twice now. Both times the food was stellar!! Amazing combinations of flavors and textures. However, it was nearly undone by the incredibly slow and inattentive service. C'mon guys... with such a great menu you should be able to have staff that is up to par with the food. Importantly, the servers were slow in bringing us our WINE, which is a high-profit item that I would think you'd desire that I have as much as I can in order to increase sales. That said, try the abalone with habanero sauce and the shrimp and cheese tacos. DIVINE!!"

  • "This was our 3rd time at Romesco's and we finally had good service! The food was excellent as always, which is the reason for return visits. We specifically went on a Friday evening because their website indicated $7 Martini's after 8pm and 80's live music. Neither was correct. According to the sign out front (which we did not read until we left), the Martini's were $5 after 8pm at the 2 bars. According to our waiter, only the patio bar offered the happy hour Martini prices. So, now we know to go straight to the patio and order our tapa's there."

  • "Restaurant is in a strip mall, but inside is a very different story. Pretty small and intimate inside, not many tables, but service is top notch and all of our requests were addressed immediately and with a smile. Food is delicious, and the selection of tapas makes the opportunity to try a myriad of things well within reach. The tapas bar, adjoining the restaurant, was filled to capacity for the entirety of our 3 hour+ evening, and there were no tables unoccupied. Live music too! Overall a great way to celebrate my wife's birthday with some friends (group of 5). Will return soon."

  • "In-town from coastal NC I found Romesco via Opentable. The mex-med fusion immediately caught my interest, so made a reserv. Carla welcomed me the moment I entered the door, located my table and presented Gustavo to assist with entree selections. Viewing the myriad choices on the menu, I decided to go with his recommendation of the short ribs. In a word, they were awesome! Very flavorful and so tender they easily cut with a fork. Paired with a LA Cetto 2009 Nebbiolo from the Guadalupe Valley made for a magical combo (½ price wine Wed made the pairing even sweeter) Having a great meal accompanied by friendly conversation with the couple next to me and friendly service by my hosts made for a very memorable, sociable dining experience."

  • "We feel very fortunate to have this restaurant so close to us. We frequent it often. The food has never disappointed us, nor the service. Tries their new TJ street food lunch and can honestly say this is not the street food you are thinking, everything was beautifully served and absolutely delish."

  • "Service here is outstanding the waiters have been here a long time, they know the people go out of their way to say hello!! Food is very good, especially the Tapas!! This is the best resturant in the area!"

  • "Tried the Grandma's Tacos and they were terrific, but then I had the Fig Risotto. Brilliant! Would have given five stars down the line, but service by busser's was lacking. Prices dictate that silverware should be changed between courses. Forks or knives used for appetizers should be changed for salad course and again for entree. Food and ambiance are well above average and I've already told several friends to give it a try."
