We arrived early for our 8pm reservation but did not get seated until 8:45 with the food taking another 60 minutes to arrive. The owner promised to "take care of us" but never did. Ahh, the joys of Friday night in Phoenix! I am an old fan of Richardsons, but this was my first visit to Rokerij. We ordered a couple of appetizers, steak dishes, the rack of lamb, the Richardsons plate, and a variety of wines and drinks. The meal itself was superb! Everything was cooked just right with each dish having a unique flavor. Our server was attentive and friendly. I judge restaurants not by price, but rather if the food is worth the money. Our meal was about $50 per person and was worth every penny! Only the long wait may prevent me from returning.

The service was great but the food was marginal. The atmosphere was warm, freindly, and festive, but it was so hot it was almost unbearable. We asked them to turn on the overhead fans, which they did, and eventually it cooled down. We have the lamb special, but I didn't even eat mine it was so poorly cooked. I don't know that I would return.

  • The food was not impressive
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 9/25/2009
The food was not impressive nor worthy of the pricepoint. We had four entrees, two appetizers and four different wines. The service was mediocre. The atmosphere was loud and crowded and unenjoyable to all people in our party. Sitting in a booth next to a bar with giant TV's playing sports is great for a sports bar with draft specials and cheap wings, but I would not expect this atmosphere at a restaurant that describes itself as fine dining. There is a quieter, more intimate dining area downstairs, but you must specifically request this at the time of reservation as it is very limited. We were unaware of this because it was our first time at the Rokerji and as a result had a very unenjoyable experience.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

Excellent spot for a quality, casual dinner. Generously portioned, the food is straightforward but with a southwest flavor that elevated it above expectation. Entrees are served on sizzling metal platters. The large cut of prime rib had a zippy sauce that added interest. Surf and turf consisted of a medium rare cut of tasty sirloin, some moderately large sauteed prawns and a crab enchilada for variety and contrast. My favorite dish was the rack of Colorado lamb, 2 large double ribbed chops served with a spicy and sweet sauce that enhanced the mild flavored American lamb. All sides were interesting. I enjoyed my chili spiked twice baked potato served in half a poblano pepper shell. The stone awalled dining room felt cozy yet energetic.

The food was very good, but trying to read the options on the blackboard was very difficult with people sitting right under them and the VERY low lighting. My friends thought it too noisy. The service was okay, but several mistakes were made on the requests of my party of four.

All key restaurant factors (e.g., menu choices, quality, service, quantity, presentation, ambiance, and prices) are pretty much in accord: All excellent. The noise level tends to be a little high; however, it lends to the energy of Rokerij. A definite "R&R" ("RECOMMEND" or "REPEAT") venue...!

Food was excellent. Service was spotty. Two of us received our salads a good 10 minutes before the other two. I had indicated birthday on my reservation. A lovely dessert was brought to the table, and then we were charged $10! I can't remember when a restaurant has not given a complimentary birthday dessert. And if there was going to be a charge, we should have at least been able to select what we wanted.

This was my first time at the Rokerij. I have been a long time customer of Richardson's. I loved the appetizers but the entree I ordered tasted exactly like the fare at Richardson's so I was disappointed in that. Next time I will stick to the apps and wine. I odered the surf and turf and felt that the beans did not go with the meal at all. I wa not expecting the Southwestern flavor with the meal at all. I should have read the menu much clearer.

We've been to the Rokerij countless times and although the wait-staff was a little overworked this particular time, we still enjoyed ourselves immensely. The best part about the Rokerij is the cozy ambiance and the small plates. The best small plates in our opinion are the bacon-wrapped shrimp, the steak tartare, the beef tenderloin toasts, the sausages, and the blue crab tostadas (although you can't go wrong on any of them). The Rokerij also has a great wine list for wine lovers.
