We were able to get much more food for a reasonable price (considering that it is a very high end restaurant). In all honesty, though, I was kind of disappointed. We had heard SO many amazing reviews, which made me expect amazing food. I think I may have gotten the, "I gotta eat at Roka Akor" out of my system. Out of the 6 Happy Hour dishes that my husband and I got, we liked 5. That's pretty good, but considering the hype and high prices (even for happy hour - they're small portions!), I'd choose elsewhere for food I know I'd like. At that time they raved about the impeccable service, the amazing presentation and superb quality of food. Roka Akor was beyond any New York City restaurant they've been to as residents there. We had some sushi for appetizers and then the lamb chops & black cod for dinner and both were AMAZING. The Hani Pru and Blood Orange Margarita were stunning as well (love their ICE!). Our server (Ryan) was incredibly knowledgeable as well as friendly. The best news is that there are TWO Roka Akor's in Chicago where I live! Great choices were recommended and the food arrived promptly and beautifully presented. When a dish was going to take time to prepare the waitress informed us and it was worth the wait. Everything we ordered was delicious. The quality of food and service in the restaurant is one of the best I have had across the country. Top notch from the beverage list and through the entire menu. Make sure to ask for items available not on the menu. Service was incredible.

We were warned about the timing since not everyone was doing the tasting menu. It worked out perfectly fine. The courses flowed very well and we were all able to try a lot of different things. We also got several appetizers that were good especially the pork belly, calamari and scallops. It was very good food and our waitress was extremely helpful. The infused shochu (mango chilie) was delicious. It was my father's birthday so I had a cake delivered to the restaurant before they opened. Walking in the door between the fire pots is very cool. The tables are spaced far apart which is great. I wish more restaurants would do that. The Waygu beef and kimchee dumplings were great. For an entree, you cannot do better than the Japanese A5 Kobe beef. It is the best there is and the kitchen executed it perfectly. The sweet potato with ginger teriyaki was very good. A new menu item of local beet salad with jalapeno miso vinaigrette was so refreshing and wonderful. Not the standard you see on every menu in town. One of the most interesting dishes I had was the Rabbit Tenderloin with pickled plum, shiso and aka miso. So much flavor and innovation.
