A word from ROKA AKOR - Scottsdale
Roka Akor is Scottsdale's premier Steak and Sushi restaurant; featuring Prime Steaks, Seafood, and Wagyu Beef, cut in-house and grilled to perfection over an open flame on a traditional, Japanese Robata Grill. Additionally, Bon Appetit Magazine recognized Roka Akor Scottsdale as one of the "Top 10 Sushi Spots" in the U.S., praising the restaurant for their beautifully prepared sushi and sashimi platters. The adjacent Shochu Lounge features house made, seasonal shochu infusions and signature cocktails in contemporary, relaxed surroundings. The restaurant offers two private rooms and an outdoor patio. Guests can choose from a more intimate setting in the main dining room, patio, or lounge, or opt for a front-row view of the chefs at the robata counter.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "It was me and wife's night out from tucson and we decided to go to Scottsdale and right next to the resort was the restaurant as soon as we walked in we were greeted and given a table we had a cold saki called Aladdin which was excellent and we didn't know what to order cause we had never been and it was our first time. The waiter stated we should go with the chefs choice which is some of the chefs best work and seasonal ingredients. When I state you won't be disappointed I truly mean it they serve you 8 different dishes my favorite was the lobster roll, grilled bison, and a grilled whole fish with lemon juice and a mango chutney. I'm mean everything was heavenly."

  • "Very unusual and creative Asian-themed dishes, including sushi, sashimi, raw bar, and cooked menu items. Food arrives in beautiful artistic presentations. Attentive wait staff help you make selections and really seem to care that you have the best possible experience. Saki list is amazing."

  • "Our family of 4 ordered the "tasting menu for 2" & supplemented with several other dishes.....turned out to be much more than enough. Might order less next time and supplement if still hungry (unlikely). Wonderful dining experience all around, very creative & attractive presentations. We went in prepared to spend a small fortune....and we did. Worth it, but hard to swallow for "every-day" dining. I'd come back again, preferably when someone else is picking up the tab!"

  • "This was my second dining experience at Roka Akor and the service was as great as the first time. The food is amazing-excellent sushi and the white chocolate brownie is in my top desserts in Scottsdale. If you are looking for great ambiance, great service and great food, Roka Akor is your place."

  • "Roka Akor never disappoints. The food is of the highest quality and absolutely everything is delicious. We only had a little scare with going there with an out of town guest with a seafood allergy. He ordered the meat or vegetarian apps but some of them came with kimchi. At first the food runner said it was safe, only to come back 10 minutes later saying it was prepared with fish sauce. Our guest was okay but it would be nice to train the servers to always ask if someone has food allergies."

  • "My hairdresser recommended this restaurant and advised that the Chef's Sampler was a way to go. While pricey, the Scottsdale location has lower prices than the other Roku Akor venues. My husband and I shared the sampler for two and it was worth every bite. We were totally stuffed by the end of the evening but left having enjoyed a delightful meal and great service. The bone marrow crostini was a standout but everything was delish. I enjoyed a fabulous Bordeaux from the wine menu. We will come back again."

  • "We had a very wonderful meal, great detail to presentation and quality flavors and textures, with a consequent large bill at the end: count on spending 130$ per person at this gem of a restaurant."

  • "Good quality sushi, by way overpriced. Service was slow and off."

  • "This was certainly a big hit with the person I invited for dinner. We both were agree on the tasting menu.Just to let you know arrive for this specific menu with a complete empty stomach, because you are in for a treat. Amazing quality and the staff is great in explaining everything."

  • "This is a wonderful powerful restaurant. Excellent food and great wine list. Have dined at their San Francisco restaurant which is equally as good."

  • "Roka Akor is an oasis in the desert. If you are looking for genuine washoku, this is one of a tiny number of restaurants in the city with the real deal. If you ask, you can get engawa with the hirame sashimi - a sashimi connoisseur 's treat. (Engawa is the textured fin muscle of the flatfish and is a chewy delight). The robata grill is no slouch, either. The grilled cod with miso sauce and cleverly pickled onions (in pickled ginger sauce) is A+ In flavor and presentation. Fusion dishes like the butterfish tatami rolled around white asparagus are packed with flavor and artfully presented. The bar has really great happy hour deals, and even in the middle of the week, gets packed. Highly recommend."

  • "Great food and service. Filet was among the best we've had as was the cod. We also enjoyed the tempura shrimp, california roll and scallop roll. All were excellent!"

  • "We a had dinner for two. We eat at a wood table with a view of one of the kitchens, lot of action, fun to watch. We ordered a kale salad it's favores were great, it was very large enough for four persons, luckily we love kale. We order susumu, all the fish was fresh and tasty. We ended our meal with the tuna tartar, which was eatable, but missed the mark it could have used more citius, and/or salt. We ordered a bubble sake, the only one available, it was to sweet. We have had bubble sake that was dry, but not on this menu. The service was friendly and perfesssional. We would return."

  • "The service was impeccable. The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The sushi leans towards traditional rather than the common Americanized stuff that most places serve, which I enjoyed. We were able to enjoy a great meal and our conversation without noise being a problem. All together a perfect evening."

  • "I splurged here. Dinner was almost $400 including tip and 3 drinks, for only 2 people. Food was good but I guess I'm just not into the smokey taste of the Japanese grill. It was ok. Drinks were good, service was good but on a Friday night the noise level gave you a headache. I ordered the chef special and dinner took almost two hours because of the wait between dishes. Overall the food was good. A few dishes were incredible but others were so fishy (the muscles) I couldn't eat them. Dishes looked beautiful though. Atmosphere was horrible, extremely loud. Service was great. Lisa was our server and I really liked her. Most expensive dinner I've ever bought and I was very disappointed. I will not eat there ever again."

  • "Wife and I went here while visiting AZ. Both of us agreed that it was one of the best meals we've ever had. Our server was fantastic and offered great suggestions. If you go here I highly recommend the black cod. Seriously the best fish I've ever eaten. Is this place pricy? Yes it is, but I certainly felt it was money well spent."

  • "The noise level was fine when we arrived (6:30). When we left it was terrible. We will go at 5:50 from now on."

  • "Te restaurant has a varied menu and an extensive wine list. However it is on the upper end of pricing although the quantities are generous. We enjoyed great service. For me it is a restaurant for a special occasion and not on a regular basis because of the prices."

  • "Excellent food and service in the face of a Valentine's Day crowd. The chef's selections were spot on and the servers took time to expalin the dishes and presentation."

  • "I feel like Roka Akor put on a show for us on Valentine's Day. It was a beautiful 9-10 course meal and everything was exceptional. The main course, bison, was cooked to perfection. This meat was a 10/10. My bill was around $250 with drinks and the prix fix meal for two. 100% worth it."

  • "We asked to sit in the lounge for happy hour. The ambience was warm and comfortable. We were served immediately with water. We ordered several things off the happy hour menu and all were excellent. The combination of flavors and preparation of each dish was very unique and beautifully presented. The wait staff is amazing! They all help each other by clearing off dishes, refilling water glasses and making sure you have everything you want. All this with being the least bit intrusive. We sat for a long time and truly enjoyed the evening. We will go back for sure."

  • "Best Lamb my hubby ever had. Brought out of town couple with us and thought food delicious. One of our guests was Hawaiian and when she saw black cod (I think) on menu she was thrilled and said it was wonderful. She travels extensively and rarely finds it on a menu."

  • "I was in Scottsdale 4 years ago and was recommended Roka Akor. It felt like our first time eating sushi as it was the most delicious we'd ever had! Each item was presented beautifully, and tasted like a little piece of perfection. I knew I had to go back! I went with 3 other people and each one of us enjoyed it tremendously! My favourites: The butterfish brussel sprouts, beef and kimchi dumplings, black cod, and pretty much all the other veggies and meal items we had! We had a dessert that was three different types of mousse - cassis, pear and blood orange on this lavender type funnel cake thing... and wow, it was splended! If you are going to be in Scottsdale DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!!!"

  • "Many have rated Roka very highly. Our experience was not good. First, we expected this to be a sushi restaurant. It isn't. They serve some basic sushi rolls and a couple of in house creations. Other than that, the menu is more steak/chop house. Our service was very poor. It took several minutes to be acknowledged, then our server disappeared for nearly 20 minutes after our two appetizers came out. The appetizers were ok, calamari with no dipping sauce and a gyoza. Both came out hot and fresh."

  • "We live 5 minutes away and always end up bringing all our guests there. Everything is tasty, fresh and exotic. Even if your not a fish lover there's other excellent dishes( meat and vegetarian). They are also very helpful if you need to make any changes .. Just ask them and they will accommodate. This is one of my favorite spot in town! Great for business too."

  • "Took daughter here for her 20th Birthday celebration, along with wife & another teen daughter. Enjoyed steak & salmon, very delicious. Recommend dumpling appetizer. Drinks were outrageously priced... Japanese red beer for me :) was $10 / bottle. Lemonade for daughter was $7, & coke for 20 yr old was $7. Overall experience was great for a nice recognition of a birthday. Would return for those kind of events. Bill was $250 for 4 people."

  • "I visited this restaurant as a result of my children giving me a gift certificate for Christmas. Being an AZ resident and avowed sushi lover I'm surprised I had been there before. I was very favorably impressed with the quality of the food, the outstanding service and the very upscale environment. We went "early" since we had other plans that evening and the service was just as good as if we'd been there during prime evening dining hours. A fabulous experience and a great find."
