  • "This restaurant was remarkable. My mom and I were having our annual girls' night out in Chicago and I decided to pick this restaurant solely based off reviews I had read. We were not disappointed. A manager introduced himself within a minute of us sitting down and explained some of the drinks. He had great recommendations for us. Our waitress was wonderful too. The food was outstanding - I got the 8 oz filet, and although it is a la carte and I wasn't sure if it'd be enough, it was! Juicy and cooked exactly how I asked. Also, try the butterfish tataki and the brussel sprouts are unlike anything I've ever had!"

  • "Brought some potential clients here and it was perfect. Made reservations for 8pm and we were able to get a table outside. Took a little while for our initial server to show up, but after that it was all good. Food was great, service was really good. The very personable and attractive manager stopped by our table a couple of times, she was very nice. The atmosphere was good for conversation, but lively enough to not feel too businesslike."

  • "The taste of the food was delicious, the sushi was great and the service was prompt and attentive. My objection is that the portion size was quite small for the price. I ordered the Madagascan Prawn and it was only ONE large prawn (which for a prawn is not that big, remember prawn=shrimp and shrimp has come to symbolize small). It took me ten seconds to eat and it was in the entree category and priced over $30. The waiter recommended after I had devoured it that I order something else so that I wouldn't go home hungry. My wife's lamb dish looked great and if I were to ever go back, it would be for the lamb and the sushi."

It does get loud because of all the hard surfaces of the decor, so don't hope to have a private conversation. Much more fun to enjoy with a group."

  • "I enjoyed all the food I had at Roka Akor. The Waygu and Kimchi dumplings were sensational alone and added to Wafu dressing, a soy based sauce, had the perfect mix of savory, salty, and bitter. The pork belly on the robata grill was sweet with mango and caramelized fat, but still savory with a hint of salt and pepper. The complimentary Tuna-seared Tataki with carmalized onion and Yazu juice was a combination of flavors so right that I have a hard time describing it, but perhaps the most interesting dish was the 6 piece shashimi modern with its unique sauce pairings. Overall, I think the robata grilled meats edged out the fish if you have to choose just one or two dishes."

Asst Mgr Brie Back ensured a marvelous experience and server Stephanie orchestrated a fantastic meal, going the extra mile in accommodating requests. The Butterfish Tataki and the Brussels sprouts are not to be missed. Request a booth on the back wall for best seat in the house."

  • "My fiance and I went to celebrate his birthday. It felt as though we were being taken care of by everyone. The manager made sure to visit our table and ask us how our meal was going. Our waitress, Sam, was very patient and eager to share her favorites with us (which we tried and loved!). If you are a mushroom-lover, you have to try the mushroom risotto! We went a bit earlier in the evening, so it was nice and quiet; but as we were leaving we noticed it getting more packed and I could see that this was a cool place to hang out at night, as well. We will definitely be going back there again! My mouth is actually watering thinking about it..."

  • "I've eaten at just about every sushi place in Chicago and really enjoy Roka Akor. The tapas style menu really allows you to please a variety of palates. We did the sashimi platter and the fish was incredibly fresh. Yes, it's pricey...but there are few sushi spots in the city that aren't. The menu really allows all different types of diners to enjoy their meal. The wine and sake choices complement the menu quite nicely."

  • "My husband and I had "Decadent Omakase" The initial cold plate and octopus salad were really good. The sashimi platter with fresh Wasabi was one of the best in Chicago. The lobster tempura was mediocre. And then some hot plates (Japanese steamed and seasoned rice with vegetables, corns, grilled fish with butter and mushrooms) were brought out but then I was too full by then so didn't really enjoy them much. And then the American Wagyu beef was brought out but I had better Wagyu other places. Nevertheless, service was really good and Omakase was enjoyable. The restaurant was a little loud but it was a clean and nice restaurant. I recommend the restaurant for anyone that wants to try the good Omakase."

Every dish was carefully prepared, presented and consumed :) the stake is amazing, sushi outstanding - drinks were great too! I am a stickler these days about food service and I have to say that Aaron was remarkable. Once dinner was complete the beautiful manager came to our table to be certain everything went swell. Great place keep it up!"

  • "Shortly after sitting down for the oyster happy hour, we were greeted with complimentary sparkling wine, as well as complimentary butterfish tataki (fantastic appetizer). Enjoyed the oysters, which were lightly dressed without masking their flavor. Loved the Brussels sprouts appetizer, however the duck and papaya salad was quite misleading - focusing on the more enticing ingredients in the description, $18 is much too expensive for a tiny salad with a few pieces of duck. Blood Orange margarita is a standout, infused soju cocktail was also good (but was enjoyed more with a single ice cube rather than covered in crushed ice in the Soju Smash)."

  • "SCORE!!! That's how I feel when I've gone to a restaurant that hits all my criteria. Number one is great food; then atmosphere and service.My favorite item that we ordered was the Brussel sprout dish. Seriously out of this world GOOD! Also the Hamachi Serrano Chili Roll. I normally don't order rolls - I order sashimi, because they mask them with so much sauce, cream cheese, or some other random spread, that you don't taste the fish. However, this had to be the best roll I've ever had. It was so tasty that we ordered 2 more.The Tuna Four Ways Roll was also worth getting. We shared a ribeye steak which was sliced up for easy chopstick eating. It was charred in a light sauce. EXCELLENT I will definitely go back!"

  • "I took my entire family to Roka Akor for lunch this week. My 3 oldest children live in NYC and Philadelphia. They have been used to some pretty fantastic sushi and fine food. However I wanted to take them to someplace special, and Roka Akor did not disappoint. The wait staff were attentive yet not intrusive. They were all very knowledgeable and flexible. The food was creative, beautifully presented, and spectacular in flavor ... even down to the hand grated wasabi. It was expensive, but looking back we had such a great experience and one that my children could talk about for the next year, it was worth it. There are reasonably priced meals, so don't be put off by the pricey comments."

  • "Started with a mojito that was excellent. They were out of light beer which was a bummer. The pepper appetizer was really good. We ordered a variety of items which ranged from shrimp tempura to tuna sashimi. One of our party did not eat fish and she ordered a beef dish which took a very long time. It was worth the wait because she also order a cucumber roll which never arrived. The chocolate cake was AWESOME! Overall, good and it's rather pricey. The woman who filled our water glasses and who took our plates was great! The waiter was very busy and this woman was more attentive than the server."

The waiter insisted the fish ib frobt if us was yellowtail but it taste and look nothing like a yellowtail. she then double checked with the chief and return and said that it was something else.
