  • "We had a great lunch. The sashimi chef selection was outstanding. The spicy avocado roll is great for non fish eaters. Outstanding saki selection. Our waitress and the manager were very attentive. Highly recommended."

  • "I've eaten at just about every sushi place in Chicago and really enjoy Roka Akor. The tapas style menu really allows you to please a variety of palates. We did the sashimi platter and the fish was incredibly fresh. Yes, it's pricey...but there are few sushi spots in the city that aren't. The menu really allows all different types of diners to enjoy their meal. The wine and sake choices complement the menu quite nicely."

  • "My husband and I had "Decadent Omakase" The initial cold plate and octopus salad were really good. The sashimi platter with fresh Wasabi was one of the best in Chicago. The lobster tempura was mediocre. And then some hot plates (Japanese steamed and seasoned rice with vegetables, corns, grilled fish with butter and mushrooms) were brought out but then I was too full by then so didn't really enjoy them much. And then the American Wagyu beef was brought out but I had better Wagyu other places. Nevertheless, service was really good and Omakase was enjoyable. The restaurant was a little loud but it was a clean and nice restaurant. I recommend the restaurant for anyone that wants to try the good Omakase."

  • "Found this place in a pinch using open table and wow - we wee not let down. Every dish was carefully prepared, presented and consumed :) the stake is amazing, sushi outstanding - drinks were great too! I am a stickler these days about food service and I have to say that Aaron was remarkable. Once dinner was complete the beautiful manager came to our table to be certain everything went swell. Great place keep it up!"

  • "Shortly after sitting down for the oyster happy hour, we were greeted with complimentary sparkling wine, as well as complimentary butterfish tataki (fantastic appetizer). Enjoyed the oysters, which were lightly dressed without masking their flavor. Loved the Brussels sprouts appetizer, however the duck and papaya salad was quite misleading - focusing on the more enticing ingredients in the description, $18 is much too expensive for a tiny salad with a few pieces of duck. Blood Orange margarita is a standout, infused soju cocktail was also good (but was enjoyed more with a single ice cube rather than covered in crushed ice in the Soju Smash)."

  • "SCORE!!! That's how I feel when I've gone to a restaurant that hits all my criteria. Number one is great food; then atmosphere and service. My favorite item that we ordered was the Brussel sprout dish. Seriously out of this world GOOD! Also the Hamachi Serrano Chili Roll. I normally don't order rolls - I order sashimi, because they mask them with so much sauce, cream cheese, or some other random spread, that you don't taste the fish. However, this had to be the best roll I've ever had. It was so tasty that we ordered 2 more. The Tuna Four Ways Roll was also worth getting. We shared a ribeye steak which was sliced up for easy chopstick eating. It was charred in a light sauce. EXCELLENT I will definitely go back!"

  • "I took my entire family to Roka Akor for lunch this week. My 3 oldest children live in NYC and Philadelphia. They have been used to some pretty fantastic sushi and fine food. However I wanted to take them to someplace special, and Roka Akor did not disappoint. The wait staff were attentive yet not intrusive. They were all very knowledgeable and flexible. The food was creative, beautifully presented, and spectacular in flavor ... even down to the hand grated wasabi. It was expensive, but looking back we had such a great experience and one that my children could talk about for the next year, it was worth it. There are reasonably priced meals, so don't be put off by the pricey comments."

  • "Very good, creative sushi place clearly trying to cater to a hip crowd or a crowd that wants to be hip. Very good service, very good sushi, although not the best I have had. Very loud."

  • "Usually this place is pretty happening, with better service & quality of food. But for some reason on this particular Sunday evening, I was less than pleased with our overall experience. The place was only about 10% full, and still the service was slow. Took too much time in btwn dishes & I honestly lost my appetite. I would think twice before coming to my once fav sushi spot again."

  • "Why it took us 3 years to try ROKA is beyond me! The food was creative and superb, wine amazing and service attentive. They catered to my wife's gluten intolerance to a fault. The atmosphere was energized and, although there was a buzz, you could talk comfortably without straining. It's a special place for guests, celebration or just a fabulous night out!"

  • "This was my first time at the Chicago location and I was delighted that the food and service was fabulous. The Crab Nigiri was unforgettable! Cannot wait to return."

  • "We were out celebrating that night and dinner was the perfect compliment to our evening. Everything was perfectly executed by the kitchen and our waiter Bryan. The wine pairings and the attention to detail made the total dining experience flawless."

  • "The food was quite excellent, though was unable to best some of the other high-end sushi establishments I frequent, and the service was alarmingly slow. Our one hour lunch meeting quickly devolved into a two hour escapade; luckily my dining companion and I had plenty to discuss!"

  • "Everything I had that night was remarkable! I recommend the steamed edamame, beef dumplings, and the Yuzu Miso Marinated Black Cod."

  • "Went for the beautiful sashimi, came out raving about the steak. Their super-hot charcoal grill creates grilled steaks and grilled fish that genuinely taste different than anywhere else. The people I ate with called it some of the best food they've ever had."

  • "Celebrated daughter's graduation with family - loud, but wonderful food and service!"

  • "Started with a mojito that was excellent. They were out of light beer which was a bummer. The pepper appetizer was really good. We ordered a variety of items which ranged from shrimp tempura to tuna sashimi. One of our party did not eat fish and she ordered a beef dish which took a very long time. It was worth the wait because she also order a cucumber roll which never arrived. The chocolate cake was AWESOME! Overall, good and it's rather pricey. The woman who filled our water glasses and who took our plates was great! The waiter was very busy and this woman was more attentive than the server."

  • "We arrived for our anniversary dinner and were treated spectacularly. It was the perfect touch of romance and ambience. Will make this a regular spot!"

  • "Fish was fresh, great environment. great customer service but the waiter probably need to gain more fish knowledge. The waiter insisted the fish ib frobt if us was yellowtail but it taste and look nothing like a yellowtail. she then double checked with the chief and return and said that it was something else. Otherwise, great japanese restaurant."

  • "Our service started off well but it was very poor once our guests arrive. We had to call the waiter to even order our food. I also had given him my CC to charge the bill at the end and he forgot and ended up bringing the bill to the table and we didn't want our guests paying for any of it. We still got to pay but wish it happened more respectfully and subtly hence we had given proper instructions as well as provided our card in the start."

  • "Way overpriced. We've had equally good Wagyu steak at BLT in Miami for way less and larger potions."

  • "There is not a bad choice on the menu. Defintely recommend the butterfish cold plate, the siracha chillii Hamachi roll plus all of their scallop dishes are over the top. Also, the service is impeccable. The wait staff is very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. Also for gluten-free patrons they have a menu that accommodates very well."

  • "The three of us opted for the chef's choice at $95 a person and we were treated to an adventure that we won't soon forget. I can't remember how many courses were delivered to our table, but it was like a fireworks display that wouldn't stop. Everything was wonderful such a nice change from ordering the same old "safe" favorites."

  • "Fabulous place to eat. Food was amazing, beautiful presentation and the service was great. Drinks were plentiful and we even received a complimentary glass of champagne from the manager when we were seated at our table. The place was a little loud but manageable for a conversation. On my list of great restaurants in Chicago!"

  • "I've already posted photos and a review on my Facebook page. I had the miso black cod which was superb, along with delicious side dishes. The complimentary sushi was different and welcomed as well as the bubbly. The response I received on Facebook was overwhelming. One person thought I was talking about a new restaurant in Seattle and was disheartened to find it was in Chicago. Another friend will be coming to Chicago next week and is planning to dine at Roka Akor. Great job!"

  • "Had the Supreme Omakase menu- absolutely brilliant, best Japanese meal I have ever had."

  • "Wow, all I can say is wow... Roka was very accomodating to us, despite being dressed very casual. They let my husband do the decadent omakase and I ordered ala carte from the menu. The amount and quality you get for the price is probably one of the best deals in town. The sashimi simply melts in your mouth... the variety suits every taste... Irene our server was psychic and a very good listener as we got everything we wanted and more. My highlights include the butterfish tataki, wagyu dumplings, robata scallops, lamb cutlet and crispy brussel sprouts (which hubby usually hates but loved these!). My husband LOVED everything and we simply had a lovely time. As a foodie couple in an overwhelming foodie town, we highly recommend & will return!"

  • "Roka Akor was one of a few restaurants that I found which had great food reviews, and was open late and also located close enough to Arie Crown Theatre where we were attending a graduation. I was a little worried when we were greeted by the hopping bar scene at the front of the restaurant, but our group (age 18-70ish) was escorted to a large table in a more serene space in the back. In my Open Table reservation I noted that we were coming from a late graduation to warn against a possible delay, but as soon as we were seated, we were welcomed with champagne and a tuna tartare appetizer. The group loved the wine selection, sashimi (divine), topnotch tempura, tender pork ribs, and fab dessert choices. Service was superb. We will be back."

  • "This was out first time at Roka Akor and were will definitely be back. the food was outstanding-everything we ordered was delicious, presented well and prepared perfectly. We really enjoyed the intricacies of the flavors and the innovation with spices. We were seated immediately at our reservation time, the staff was very attentive, repeatedly stopping by the table to see if all was well, and I felt the advise from the waitperson on how to order was very accurate and helpful. "

  • "After eating at this establishment numerous times, recently ate lunch with business colleague and experienced a disappointing meal from beginning to end. While it had been a while since I'd last eaten here, I cannot imagine what has led to this slide down hill. This said, I am willing to give it another try as I understand every restaurant can have a "bad day"."

  • "We went for lunch. While the food was good (although the quality of the ingredients, presentation, taste, is not what it was when they first opened in Chicago) the service was poor. Things came out at different times for me and my dining companion, salad with no dressing, etc....No apologies, the manager said it was because the chef wanted to make sure the salmon was properly cooked through (wow, shouldn't he figure this out before sending out the other plate??) Even when we first arrived there was no one to greet us, even though the restaurant was basically empty. We were seated by a bus boy. Enough said."
