A word from Rojo Mexican Grill - Edina
Rojo Mexican Grill serves new culinary creations and many traditional dishes, such as quesadillas, tacos and enchiladas, but with bold new flavors or in unique presentations. Ingredients, such as the tortillas, guacamole, and salsas, are made fresh from scratch each day. And Rojo uses special proprietary blends of Mexican spices to create the unique recipes. The stylish restaurant seats more than 280 guests and was designed to evoke traditional Mexican décor, but with a modern influence. Warm woods and soft red upholstery are offset by accents of leather, stone and steel. The dining room offers traditional table service and a generous view of the kitchen where diners can watch food prepared throughout the process. Three centrally located tables are dedicated to preparing hand-rolled tortillas, fresh guacamole and salsa in full view each day.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I've been to Rojo countless times both at the West End and Southdale. The food is always good and fresh. And you can't beat the chips and salsa."

  • "We brought in a group of 6 professionals for a lunch & discussion period from 11 AM to 1 PM. The wait person was attentive and gave us time while all arrived. Chips and dip was good and appreciated by all. We all ordered different items from the menu and the waiting time to receive the food was a little long, but OK. As far as the food we only rated it fair and in one case it was rated poor. The items were not as good as we had expected. Most of us will not be back for sometime, maybe next year and try again."

  • "Overall, our experience at Rojo was great. The food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. We shared the ceviche and chicken fajitas, both of which were very tasty. We also each had a margarita (I had the skinny, he had the Rojo) and we both enjoyed them a lot!"

  • "First time at Rojo. Needed gluten-free options and the fish tacos which were wonderful and had a variety of other interesting menu items. Will be sure to come back."

  • "The person seating us was kind enough to move us from next to the kitchen to a quieter table. The server guy was friendly and made good recommendations. Good but expensive margerita, good fish tacos according to my wife. I had the meatloaf which had a good sauce and great rice and refried beans, but I wasn't personally into the flavor of the meatloaf itself. Nobody's fault."

  • "Food was delicious! Margaritas were made the right way..."

  • "We made our reservation through open table and were seated right away upon arrival. The restaurant was pretty full, so glad we made it in advance. It took a little time for our server to come get our drink order and then food order. She was less than enthusiastic, but she was right on top of refilling our water. The chips and salsa were great, the salsa is not spicy, more of a sweet flavor. I ordered the beef enchiladas which came with sweet rice (to die for!) and refried beans. The food presentation was very classy, and was just enough. It wasn't giant portions like you receive at other restaurants. Our food was also quick to arrive, even the dessert. Loved that they clearly mark the gluten free options right on the menu. Kudos for that!"

  • "Rojo served up a Salmon Salad that was hearty and delicious. We felt unhurried, tho the place was very busy. Reservations on a Saturday evening were a must. Have been there for lunch, and Rojo serves light and healthy options. Try it."

  • "Great service, generous drink pours, and fantastic flavors. A bit too noisy for lower-key dining, but a fun atmosphere for groups."

  • "The Mexican corn was really good. My tacos however were too salty and really dispointing. On that note, I wanted to give Rojo another try, so I scheduled my birthday celebration there. There were 7 of us, and only 2 of us has meals that were decent. The chimichanga's and the ribs were awful. My familty didn't want to say anything, too Minnesota nice, but I can't let it go. The meal was expensive and we were all disappointed. The only thing we ate that I would recommend to anyone, is the flan. That was excellent."

  • "After being initially seated, we sat for over 15 minutes being totally ignored. When we finally flagged a staff member down, we still did not receive service. When we went to complain to the hostess someone finally came and brought us chips and took our beverages and said they'd be right back. After another 10 minute wait it took another trip back to the receptionist to finally get a server to come take our order. If we hadn't booked through open table and didn't want to lose our points, we would have walked out. Oddly there is another Rojo in St Louis Park where we've enjoyed dining several times. We'll never go back to this one. I think this should be removed from Open Table's list."

  • "Attentive service, and great choices. Loved the meatloaf (with chorizo), and my partner liked the shrimp tacos. Refried beans were delicious."

  • "Location is next to AMC theaters. Rojo chips, salsa and Guac is Way better than movie popcorn - so come here first! I ordered the Chopped salad, grinds ordered seafood tacos. Our server LUKE, was fun and efficient. Nice experience."

  • "We enjoyed that the noise level was moderate when so many other places are just plain too noisy. The seating is comfortable and not too close together. We really enjoyed the food and will return to try other things on the menu.,"

  • "Surprisingly good menu, with food and service to match."

  • "Horrible food - chimichanga was soggy and had a burnt aftertaste, tacos and enchiladas were greasy, nachos were not cheesy and tasted like cheese wiz. The only good food was the guacamole. The waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu. We were not able to make any special requests like no beans in chimichanga because they are pre-rolled, and not allowed to get one cheese and one chicken enchilada. When our drinks were gone the waitress never asked if we wanted another or took our empties. No one asked how our food was, they were probably to embarrassed. To top it off, we were seated in a location where whenever anyone opened the door we were hit with a cold blast of air. So many better Mexican restaurants and they cost a lot less."

  • "I've defaulted to Rojo Edina for Happy Hour as west end is always over capacity. There were quite a few families and children here as opposed to the WE location. The service was great in the bar. This summer I went and the service was bad, but it seems they have figured it out since then."

  • "New Year's Eve, 8pm and the place was dead so expected good service. Had to track down our server twice. Usually go to the West End location. Staff at this one was maybe just mad they had to work New Year's Eve? Food was OK, nothing special. 3 people. 2 appetizers. 3 cocktails. Entrees: Salad. Burrito. Fajita. $120 w/tip."

  • "Our reservation got us in on time on a Friday night. The service was good and the chips and salsa were great! The shrimp tacos were very tasty!"

  • "My team of co-workers and I went to Rojo for a late Christmas celebratory lunch. Service was a little slow and the waitress' accent (Eastern Eurpoean maybe) and soft voice made it a little difficult to understand. The background music was a little loud too, which made conversation a bit difficult. The food, however, was excellent...especially their guacamole! Loved that lots!"

  • "Everything we ordered was terribly bland and mushy. No flavor, no texture, unappealing to look at. Each of us took 5 bites max. However, sweet rice that comes with most entrees was good. We didn't complain because we figured with appetizers and entrees all being so bland and mushy, it must be the style of Rojo food, not something "wrong" with ours. Server seemed irritated to be working. We still gave 20% tip because we'd be irritated serving that food, too. Worst restaurant meal we can remember. All agreed we'd get better Mexican food at Taco Bell. Sad, because we were looking forward to having a good Mexican place in Edina."

  • "I loved the dark decor at Rojo. The side salad was delicious and not too spicey. I ordered chicken enchiladas. They were a little greasy but the flavor was phenomenal. Server was good about providing drink refills and was friendly and attentive. The place is a bit overpriced but the food and ambiance was worth going back for."

  • "We had been to and enjoyed Rojo's other location in the West End, but had not visited the Edina location. The food, beverages and service were all excellent. But the parking… Parking in the restaurant corner of Southdale Mall is typically short of spaces on a busy Friday evening, but was doubly bad when we visited. The lot had not been properly plowed, so it was rutted and drivers could not see the lines delineating the parking spaces. Cars were parked in willy nilly. To top it off, the auxiliary lots out beyond the regular parking were closed for construction. We had to drive up and down the rows several times before pouncing on a spot as someone pulled out. We were nearly late for our reservations. Not a good beginning to our evening."

  • "Went to Rojo for dinner for the first time this week. It was a snowy Monday night and the restaurant was not busy. We were surprised that you could not get the Happy Hour items in the dining room--only for "bar only" customers--bummer. Our server was attentive thru the ordering process and drinks and appetizers and then things slowed down. It took nearly 30 minutes for our entrees (which were very good) and he was not attentive after that--we had to ask for drink refills and our check. Thought $9 for an average size guacamole was a tad spendy."

  • "We always feel rushed by the wait staff at any Rojo. Rushed to order, rushed to clear the plates, etc. Table turnover seems important to them."
    Dined on 12/9/2013
  • "Not busy on a weeknight. The acoustics were not good. it was hard to hear the hostess & the waitress (course they both mumbled) and hard to hear each other at the table. Service was just fair as was the food. Have been to the West End location several times and it has better food and service...and just a better vibe. Great margaritas though!"

  • "Everything was solid -nfood, drink, and service all what you would expect at a Mexican restaurant in this part of town."

  • "Each time I've gone to Rojo the wait staff have been rude and abrupt. Customers seem like an inconvienience to whatever else it is they're supposed to be doing."

  • "The food was not very good, it was bland. My order was mixed up and our service wasnt very helpful. It was nice to try it, but i wont beback."

  • "Our server was really nice and the happy hour was a great price with great service! Not a ton of seating in the bar area but we made it just in time! I got a margarita (as usual) and they have been consistently amazing!"

  • "We were going to go to our usual "go to" Mexican restaurant when we opted to try this. So glad we did. They have a great Happy Hour. Their house margarita was really good and they have a great selection of tequilas. Our waiter was very attentive to us. The dinner menu was great. I especially liked the Mexican corn and chicken tacos."

  • "we ordered the carnitas tacos and they came out totally cold. the waitress then brought out a new order - still cold. she brought us some deep fried ice cream as an apology, but neither of us are dessert eaters. then at the end, she ended up putting the ice cream on the bill! waitress seemed to be "elsewhere". have eaten at the West End Rojo many times and never had a problem"

  • "We have been going to the Rojo at the West End since they opened and are thrilled to have one even closer to home at Southdale. Everything we've tried on the menu has been amazing!"

  • "Although we had read a few negative reviews about the food and the service, we decided to check out Rojo because it sounded interesting and new. Based on the reviews that we read, we weren't sure what to expect, but we really enjoyed our visit. The server was friendly and helpful and very quick, too. The food was very good - it had a lot of flavor and spice and was definitely not bland. The margaritas were really good as well! The prices might be a little high, but it was worth it because the food was not run-of-the-mill, chain restaurant blahness. We will definitely go back again."

  • "I rarely go to Mexican restaurants in the US since I travel to Mexico from time to time. Rojo is a cut above the usual fare one finds. On my first visit I had a chopped salad with carne asada. I plan to return soon just for this dish. The iced tea was very good. They serve Pepsi products, and I prefer coke products."

  • "I am hoping that the restaurant gets busier than when i dined here. The lack of patrons made us feel uncomfortable with all the staff hovering and coming to the table to quickly take things as we were done with them. The food was alright, nothing special. I had shrimp tacos and my friends shared enchiladas. I asked the waitress for a hot salsa, which she brought. She didn't tell me is that they charge you for this. She brought out a large cup of it, which was a waste. It wasn't hot and there was too much of it. Had I known there was a charge for this, I'd have gone without. This was a business lunch, which is probably the only reason I'd return to this restaurant. Otherwise, I'll continue to get my Latin cuisines elsewhere."

  • "The food was very good. We tried three different appetizers including the corn cob. Everything was so good. It was fun. The Cadillac margarita was a great way to cap it off! Thanks for providing tasty food in a mall where we needed more restaurant choices!"
