  • "The filet mignon was a fine cut of meat perfectly prepared. The side of roesti potatoes did not disappoint. The crusted salmon with pureed potatoes was delicious. We were in the upstairs dining room decorated with portraits of horses, enjoyed an eye level view of the beautiful huge chandelier and stained glass ceiling above. Love the ambiance and the fine meal to match. Overall, Rod's is a treat for the eyes and the palette. A winner! Happy birthday celebration diners"

  • "I took my parents out to dinner here on 4/4/14 for my dad's birthday. The food was great and really delicious and went well with the wine we ordered. I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg but for a dinner for 4 people it came out to $219.00 and we all had appetizers and entrees with side dishes. Of course, it may not be an every Friday night place unless of course you (have it to spend) but I think it is a nice place for a special occasion dinner or even a great place to bring a date. I liked it a lot and I would recommend it as well. I had the salmon which was delicious but I tasted the lobster penne and I would get that next time. Overall, nice experience!"

The quality & flavor of the food was just outstanding. The wine list is very impressive. Obviously, if you want the best you have to pay for it, highly recommended."

  • "We were a group of 5 looking forward to a nice night out at a steakhouse. We thought we would give Rod's a shot, since we had heard good things. Our experience, however, was not a good one. Long wait for food (1 hour for appetizer and another hour before our entree arrived), not inexpensive prices (read $40+ for steaks), flavorless food (someone in the kitchen should be introduced to salt, at least) , inexperienced servers, and a loud atmosphere ensured that we will not be returning (at least anytime soon). That said, given the large number of people dining there, they are not likely to miss us. In any event, we would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "It is not just the 28 ounce steaks. Order a baked potato and you will receive the biggest tuber you have ever seen. Like 7 inches long with a 4 inch diameter. Order a side of onion strings, and it looked like about a quart of them were delivered. The whole experience is gluttony extraordinaire. Great experience if you like that sort of thing."

  • "We were a group of 8 that dined at this restaurant on Saturday, 3/22/14. The establishment is beautiful inside and we were looking forward to an evening out with good friends. From the moment we arrived and placed our first drink order our waiter was impossible to track down. The second round of drinks he forgot about and our appetizers took 40 minutes to arrive. He never checked on us after our dinners arrived to see how the food was received. In an establishment such as this we expected far more for service then what little was received. And of course because we were a group of 8 they added the tip in the bill at 18%. The food was very good but I will never dine here again because of the lack of service."

  • "Arrived at 5pm. Sat near upstairs kitchen door and servers area despite only 3 other tables occupied. Requested a change with the grumblings of the hostess. Waiter inattentive, missing an appetizer we had ordered. Calamari arrived heavily salted. Wife ordered prime rib with bone on. Arrived medium rare as ordered but the bone looked like a charcoal handle. I ordered strip steak medium rare, arrived medium well to well. Yes, our error for not sending it back. We had a concert to attend and were pressed for time. Desserts were nothing special. Always wanted to try Rod's Steakhouse. The experience was horrible for my birthday dinner. Sorry,but for an establishment with such good reviews we were shocked by the experience,. $225 later!"

  • "We love Rod's. Have been coming for years, and the food is consistently exceptional! It is definitely one of the best Steakhouses in the NJ/NY metro area. The Cowboy Steak and the NY Strip are our favorites, and eating it the Keller Family way is simply over the top! The only consistent problem is the lackluster service. Despite the service, we continue to return due to the Keller Family's hospitality, the lovely surroundings and the outstanding food."

Loud place because there are 2 full-out bars downstairs and a band was setting up as we were leaving. At $40/plate, not what I was expecting. And to have to walk up and down older stairs in heels just to use the ladies room was not fun. Take a pass!"

  • "I have been to Rod's many times in the past. This is the worst waitress I have ever come across in the restaurant. She was not accommodating to my dietary needs as it seems she had no idea what "gluten free" meant. I felt as though I was bothering her. She only came back to our table twice during the entire meal, and we had appetizers, salad, and main course. There was no way we were staying for dessert. The wait staff was wonderful and when my filet was very overdone, they were the ones that brought out the chef to see what the problem was. Babette was no where to be found!! I will return to Rod's, but will request NOT to have Babette!!"

  • "I had often eaten here when I was an employee of Allied Signal, now Honeywell, with Corporate Offices in Morristown. The food was excellent twenty years ago and still is. We were there for Brunch this time and ate in the restored Pullman Cars. The Brunch selections were excellent and varied. I felt the coffee could have been a little fresher. However, I attributed this to the fact that we were a little farther away from the buffet. Overall I still give it a Five star."

  • "The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, and the service was equally great. They provide a really nice wine list & selection. However, I had to send my filet minion back twice. I asked for medium and it kept coming back rare or medium rare, depending where you're cutting the meat. I was going to send it back a third time, but I just called it a lost. Although the restaurant did take it off my bill. Overall this is a really nice restaurant and you probably won't be disappointed, if you avoid the filet. The chef, obviously has a hard time preparing food to specifications. I will not return here again, as my time and money can best be used else where."

Our server was right on with every order as well as very pleasant and knowledgeable about the food and wine menu. This was our first time here but it will definitely not be our last!"

  • "I really enjoyed our meal at Rods. Even though I've lived in NJ since 1997 and worked in Madison for several years, I've never eaten at Rods. I've been to corporate events in the gazebo. We eat at fine restaurants every saturday night and are very familiar with all the typical steak houses. I was expecting your typical stuffy fine dining place. But it had a great atmosphere. Lots of groups and families filled the restaurant which has a slightly gaudy, but cozy feel. Think 21 club in NYC. The service was a tiny bit slow, but nothing to write home about. Oysters, steak and lobster bisque were very good - typical of a steakhouse. Noise level was comfortable and great for families with kids. It was a nice warm inviting experience."

We gave the name and were walked right to our table with no wait what so ever. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. I don't think I will wait for Valentines Day to go back, maybe next month."

  • "this is the first time in a long time that the service was not good, the waiters( and there were plenty of them) only had to get drinks and condiments-we waited a really long time for coffee and mimosas at least 10 minutes for bar drinks no one could find ketchup- really-- don't you think it could be on the table-bussers were clearing tables and when they walked by dirty garbage flew off the trays onto our bodies and our tables-with so many waiters and bussers someone needs to control this -it was like a free for all not the standard for the Madison Hotel!"

  • "Last two visits to Rod's left us disappointed. NOT THIS TIME. Our table was out of a high traffic area and out servers Brian and Stephanie were so much better than the last two visits. The food has always been better than good at Rod's. Although portions seem as little smaller than in the past, it is still difficult to finish an entree. My Cowboy Blackened Ribeye was great. Rod's is back on our top restaurants list."

The shrimp and crab martini appetizer was amazing, the sliced filet was very good as well. The Boston Creme cake was interesting- a twist on Boston creme pie and enjoyable. Portions are ample, decor is of days gone by and nicely kept. Prices are moderate to higher. There was a great band there; Mid Life Crisis and the songs were fun and offered variety from the 80-'s to today's sounds."
