A word from Rod N Reel
Rod ‘N’ Reel has been a premier waterfront dining destination since 1946. While feasting on delicious local seafood you can smell the salt air and feel the Bay breeze as the bustle of harbor activity unfolds before you. Gilles Syglowski, Food Critic for What’s Up? Magazine, boasts, “Superb. The fish was moist and delicious…overstuffed with a smooth, tasty imperial crab mixture-a simply delightful dish! “Jumbo lump crab cakes have been the signature dish here for decades but tenderness, juiciness and flavor also abound in our certified steaks. Saturday Rise ‘N” Shine Breakfast Buffet, 8 am to 12 pm. Sunday Breakfast Buffet is wildly popular, 8 am to 1 pm, folks drive miles for smiles and an abundance of creative fare on Sunday. Lunch and dinner served 7 days. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Service was excellent; food was prepared as we asked and available in a timely pace."

  • "Need a place to relax with a view, this is the perfect place to come. The food a little pricy but worth it because the service is great and the food very well prepared and the potion size was nice."

  • "the ambiance was very nice because we had w window overlooking the water. The food was tasty and prsented fairly nicely. We enjoyed the complimentary portiwne cheese and crackers (especially the "everything" thin cracker."

  • "Love this place in general. Courtesy staff that remembers regulars, Selections were good but lacked lighter soups - both offerings were heavy cream based. Rarer beef option would be nice."

  • "We had the all you can eat buffet. The steam shrimp was delicious with the cocktail sauce. However they didn't keep the buffet line fully stocked, you had to wait for restocking and return back to the table and get back in line and our waitress was not that attentive to clear the table of used dishes, provide water or ask if evrerything was ok. The atmosphere is always great."

  • "I was with seven of my great friends, some were visiting from PA and others were co-workers. We have breakfast at different places every three months. I suggested Rod and Reel because I try and go to the Chesapeake Spa Resort also at least 3 times or more a year. They all said this was the best spot yet because the food was absolute great and there were so many items to choose from. And the price was well worth it."

  • "A seafood buffet is usually a really special dinner to go to! Brought out-of-town guests that enjoyed meal but nothing special. .. Presentation poor - looking like it just came out of the cooking pots in the kitchen. No decorations on buiffet area just plain white cloith, chafing dish containers placed sideways so hard to see what dish was and harder to get food out of. No labels on each one, or on salad dressings to know what it was without opening container, breaded food and green beans cold, selection limited. Best item was the steamed shrimp with Bay seasoning. All tasted OK but I was disappointed. Service slow to poor. Rod n' Reel could do better with little added expense to at least make it a pretty presentation."

  • "The Rod N Reel Restaurant has been a popular seafood restaurant for many decades. Its not the old casual 'all you can eat crabhouse' it became famous for, but the new and up-scale decor and menu are still very good. The marina view is excellent and romantic. The food is good but with the upscale comes the price increase. Because of its decades of popularity, I recommend you get reservations for weekend dining, because there is usually a waiting line or a large group ahead of you."

  • "WE did not get the table we reserved, the appetizer came out after our food, the server was either New or just didn't care, I still left a great tip just because that's the type of person I am! I wouldn't recommend going on a holiday they need more staff and more experienced staff. the manager was AMAZING, had it not been for her we would have l left!!"

  • "Valentine's Day, 2014 was my 4th experience at the Rod "N Reel...and again, an excellent experience. The added pleasure this time was the full moon over the Chesapeake Bay during our romantic dinner...and the complimentary chocolate cover strawberries for dessert! I look forward to returning!"

  • "We decided to stay local as they were calling for bad weather... We have had our ups and downs here with service and food and it seems they have had some positive adjustments. They last few times we have been here there has been a steady improvement on both service and food... Thank you Rod n Reel for making our night out special!!!"

  • "We had a family party of 7 for Valentine's dinner. They saved us a corner table surrounded by windows with a lovely view of the Chesapeake Bay. The service was excellent, even included complimentary chocolate covered strawberries for everyone at the end in honor of the holiday. Some things we ordered were the steamed mussels appetizer (good), fish & chips dinner (great beer batter on the fish), Mediterranean salmon salad (good), vegan vegetable napoleon (very good), and crab cakes (okay, but we're Marylanders so we really grade tough -- if you're not from here you'd love them!). Overall a very nice evening."

  • "We had a very enjoyable 2 couple Valentines dinner. Our food was a long time coming but we'll worth the wait. The couples had a good time sipping and talking as we waited. The restaurant was quite full so service might be faster on another night. One of the couples didn't eat seafood but found meals they raved about. The only problem the other couple had was which seafood entree to choose. The only people I wouldn't recommend this for is those in a hurry. For us,it was nice to eat in an American restaurant where we didn't feel a bit rushed. We can't suggest a certain food because all we had was so good and we expect that's true thruout the menu."

  • "I enjoyed a weekend brunch with my children and grandchildren. Although picky eaters my grandchildren ate surprisingly well. The ambience was excellent with the Chesapeake bay as a backdrop"

  • "For the price, I thought it was a bit bare bones. I would have liked to see crab legs or a more elaborate salad bar. The food was delicious as prepared. I guess in my mind I was looking for something like the Lighthouse in Solomons had years ago. The price was around $22 and the selection was very big. Also, for that price, coffee after dinner should be included."

  • "The food was good but the service was slow. We weren't on a time so it didn't really matter that it was slow. But the waitress didn't take care of simple things like keeping the water glasses full. There was a nice selection of food and drinks."

  • "Best Sunday brunch in the state! Just not on a holiday like Mother's Day (long wait)...Great family-owned and operated business. The view is amazing. Slots are next door along with a wonderful hotel, the Chesapeake Resort and Spa Hotel. There is always a wedding going on in the sand in front of the window, which is in front of the piers, in the spring and fall. Very busy on holidays, though. So, plan ahead and use Open Table to reserve dinner slot."

  • "We have been to the Rod n' Reel on numerous occasions and love the seafood. The chef prepares everything expertly and the wait staff is very attentive. This restaurant has quickly become our favorite and we have recommended it to others. Bravo, Rod n' Reel!"

  • "My wife had her typical Crab Cake and it was excellent. Very accommodating at switching menu items, since we're cutting back on the carbs. I had the lobster special. A 1.5 lb. lobster for under $ 20.00 that was very good. Not at all rubbery, but juicy and delicious. We were very happy with this choice."
