A word from RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen
RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen is the first restaurant of its kind in L.A. An upscale casual destination from eminent restaurateur David Overton and Singapore-raised, New York-trained chef Mohan Ismail (Spice Market, Tabla, Blue Hill), RockSugar showcases the cuisines of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and India. Drawing upon memories of family meals his mother made, chef Mohan folds in his vast culinary experience to bring together the exhilarating tastes of a half-dozen Southeast Asian nations. Dishes are served Asian family-style to create an atmosphere that encourages sharing & conversation. RockSugar, which takes its name from an ingredient used by Asian chefs, features a full bar with an extensive wine list and exotic cocktails and an onsite bakery where it creates fresh-made desserts that infuse French flair with Asian-influence. Please Note: Online reservations are available for parties up to 6 people.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This is a nice reprieve from the shopping mall. With its darkened main room, you feel like you're walking into another dimension with really good food and an excellent banana cake dessert."

  • "The food is delicious and the atmosphere amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I really enjoy everything about RockSugar. The food is great, and the energy and atmosphere is fantastic. RockSugar is one of my favorite restaurants to go to, even though I don't get to eat there a lot."

  • "The samosas were absolutely to die for! If this place wasn't located in a mall, you would think it was a 5 star restaurant!"

  • "Disappointed that such a beautiful restaurant did not match the menu. Lacking."

  • "Ordered from the Dine LA dinner menu, everything was amazing! Walking into the place, I was taking so many pictures because it is visually stunning. I felt like I was walking into another work in Southwearn Asia. Too pretty to even find the words to describe. Lanterns hanging, fire pits, color changing lights, everything took my breath away. The food was just as good. With each bite I foundmyself moaning from how good it was! The potstickers, chicken satay, claypot beef, princess chicken, banana cake, and strawberry sorbet were out of this world! Highly recommend this place."

  • "The food is good, but nothing outstanding. Our waitress was awesome, although overall the service was slow and not everyone's apps came out at the same time nor did our entrees. And not like they had to run back to the kitchen to get the rest, it was like 15 min before everyone else's food came. Kind of awkward. And what should have been an hour and a half turned into a 3 hour dinner."

  • "Everything at RockSugar is a delight from the minute you enter the doors. The diverse menu and the quality of the food, the waitstaff, the ambience are all outstanding! I can't wait to return!"

  • "We got our table and the sunlight was shining in my eyes. The hostess didn't seem to care about it. She never offered us a change of table, even though it was only around 5:15pm on a Sunday. Our server was very nice. However, she was training someone and spent more time with him then with us. We had to keep asking for things. At the very beginning, I asked if it would be ok to get my own check and she said yes. At the end, she handed us one check and I had to ask again and wait to have it redone. I asked for the leftovers to be boxed and they came with a claim check. In order to retrieve this box, I would have had to go to the front and wait for someone to get this to me."

  • "I was dining alone and was told I could not order from the dineLA menu. The pork buns were so greasy I couldn't eat them. The donuts were dry. The spring roll was good. The soup had tiny shrimp that were overcooked."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "We had to wait over half our to get seated and then another 15 minutes to order, so we had to munch on the chips and salsa. We started eating around 1 hour after the time of our reservation..."

  • "Great location, excellent food and service was fabulous. Overall a great place to eat. Good selection and nice size portions for all to share."

  • "I'm always weary of mall restaurants but this one was excellent. Once inside the ambience and decor was great and you had no idea you were in a mall. The outdoor seating was fun and they have a little area with small tables with fireplaces. Great for drinks and small bites. The dinner food portions are huge."

  • "Rock Sugar is like Old Faithful, solid and dependably good. We have never been disappointed and love the variety of Asian their cuisine menu."

  • "We had such a wonderful dinner here. The atmosphere was wonderful, the service was fantastic, and the food and drinks were delicious! We went on our anniversary and they were really great about that too!"

  • "Rock Sugar in Century City is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants, despite the fact that it's located in a mall. It could be a very nice dinner and a movie date night (though it will be pricey, especially if you order a drink(s). The decor (from the entrance to being seated) is beautiful. The food is sooooo delicious and has never disappointed whether I had lunch or dinner. The hostesses/waiters/servers are always courteous. Pricey or not, I go here every chance I get."

  • "It's not even busy, but they kept on wanting to kick us out, by constantly asking if we are done(I mean they asked ten times), until we told them you don't need to ask until we ask you to come over. They brought the check over without us asking for it, it's like 2 hours before they close. Food is greasy and PF Changish, but service is way worse than PF Chang with a higher pricing."

  • "Our food was delicious. We got the red snapper, beef, chicken samosa. the papaya & mango salad wasn't that great. but everything else was delicious. the service was spectacular. Really impressed overall & will definitely return"

  • "Was taken there by a girlfriend to celebrate my birthday. An interesting menu. The caramel shrimp entree was out of this world! Service was lovely. Cool cocktail menu. They knew it was my birthday, stuck a candle in dessert, but did not comp the dessert. Not mandatory, but it would have been nice. But I can't really fault them for that. Otherwise, it was a great eveningl."

  • "I love this restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious. The ambiance is to die for. But the best thing about it is the service. Once those doors close you feel like you are in a palace and treated like royalty . I plan to try everything on the menu. (With the pot stickers of course). I just can't leave without this amazing appetizer . This is the perfect place for a romantic dinner but also for any festive outing with friends. It's a first date spot but also an excellent backdrop to celebrate your anniversary of many years. The extensive wine list helps to turn up the fun with a couple of buddies but don't forget that all important business lunch. Rock sugar is the all occasion restaurant.... And my favorite."

  • "Can't beat the Asian Fusion blend. Everything delicious with excellent and friendly servers. Good drinks too. Design and ambiance are best in the area. Really hard not to keep coming back."

  • "It has been many years since my last visit to RockSugar. The food was exceptional. The wait staff were always around. Food was always nice and hot. Wasnt too impressed with the Malaysian Peppered Beef. All i tasted was heavy soy sauce. Jalapenos i think were just tossed on as a garnishment because they were hard and no jalapeno flavor through the dish? Next time i will try the shaking beef. The coconut chicken soup was out of this world. The Hanoi Snapper portion was a little small i thought but the preparation was so amazing. I will definitely have this again."

  • "We have been coming here for years now and service has not been what it used to be to say the least. We had to ask for silverware and we're constantly looking for our server. He was very polite and did point out the vegetarian options, just had to be called over a few times.Food was good except for too chewy green beans that we sent back."

  • "A lovely experience overall. My favourites were the chicken shrimp dumplings and the Singapore Hainan Pork."

  • "This restaurant is decorated beautifully. The main dining areas are enormous and feature incredible decorations like room-sized chandeliers and oriental paintings. The food was hit-and-miss, but mostly good. I wasn't prepared for their "Food will come as its ready" policy, which basically means that it comes out whenever its ready. The appetizers got to us like 15-20 minutes after we ordered, and were absolutely delicious. We had the veggie samosas and duck rolls. The entrees, however, came out one-at-a-time over the next 30 minutes, which was very strange considering my girlfriend and I basically had to eat our dishes while the other waited. Din took 2 hrs about. They totally forgot about my special note on OpenTable though."

  • "I confess I AM a Foodie and not easily impressed, but this restaurant definitely passed the first test and brought me back a second time. And having just discovered the Happy Hour as well, it's now a new favorite. I will say that it can be very noisy, however, so I prefer going off times or asking for a table away from large parties and families. Everything is great, but especially addictive...the rice chips & their special mango Thai salsa chutney."

  • "The food took SO long to come out, if we had been on a tight schedule, we would have not eaten, it was that bad. The food was good when it finally arrived"
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "The restaurant is beautiful but the food is mediocre and generic. There was an underlying sweet and sour taste that was present in every dish we ordered. The chicken satay was also quite dry"
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "We tried the tasting menu. The food was very good. We were told that the portions were going to be large, but we felt that they were small. To order the tasting menu you need to have two or more people. Each person gets to order their own entree, but it didn't seem like we were getting the full entree. The shrimp entree only gave us four shrimp. The steak entree also seemed more like an appetizer portion. So I'd have to say we were disappointed by the tasting menu. The two of us split 3 appetizers, 1 salad, 1 vegetable, 1 portion of rice, two small sized entrees and 1 dessert. I definitely didn't feel we got our money's worth in that regard. There were also additional charges for 3 of the dishes we selected. Avoid the tasting menu."

  • "Had a lovely B/D dinner at RockSugar, good food, so-so drinks, pleasant and efficient service as well as a booth. The place is a bit of an echo chamber but a booth is ideal for conversation and good times..."

  • "The waiter acted like we owed him something the food came out cold I liked the ambience the most and the beautiful restaurant"

  • "Took my daughter and our new son-in-law for lunch. Everybody enjoyed the food and this was amazing as they had just comeback from a month honeymoon in Thailand. After eating the best that Thailand had to offer, they enjoyed Rock Sugar's food as much. Congratulations."
