RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen is the first restaurant of its kind in L.A. An upscale casual destination from eminent restaurateur David Overton and Singapore-raised, New York-trained chef Mohan Ismail (Spice Market, Tabla, Blue Hill), RockSugar showcases the cuisines of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and India. Drawing upon memories of family meals his mother made, chef Mohan folds in his vast culinary experience to bring together the exhilarating tastes of a half-dozen Southeast Asian nations. Dishes are served Asian family-style to create an atmosphere that encourages sharing & conversation. RockSugar, which takes its name from an ingredient used by Asian chefs, features a full bar with an extensive wine list and exotic cocktails and an onsite bakery where it creates fresh-made desserts that infuse French flair with Asian-influence.   • "It has been many years since my last visit to RockSugar. The food was exceptional. The wait staff were always around. Food was always nice and hot. Wasnt too impressed with the Malaysian Peppered Beef. All i tasted was heavy soy sauce. Jalapenos i think were just tossed on as a garnishment because they were hard and no jalapeno flavor through the dish? Next time i will try the shaking beef. The coconut chicken soup was out of this world. The Hanoi Snapper portion was a little small i thought but the preparation was so amazing. I will definitely have this again."

  • "This restaurant is decorated beautifully. The main dining areas are enormous and feature incredible decorations like room-sized chandeliers and oriental paintings. The food was hit-and-miss, but mostly good. I wasn't prepared for their "Food will come as its ready" policy, which basically means that it comes out whenever its ready. The appetizers got to us like 15-20 minutes after we ordered, and were absolutely delicious. We had the veggie samosas and duck rolls. The entrees, however, came out one-at-a-time over the next 30 minutes, which was very strange considering my girlfriend and I basically had to eat our dishes while the other waited. Din took 2 hrs about. They totally forgot about my special note on OpenTable though."

  • "We have been coming here for years now and service has not been what it used to be to say the least. We had to ask for silverware and we're constantly looking for our server. He was very polite and did point out the vegetarian options, just had to be called over a few times.Food was good except for too chewy green beans that we sent back."

  • "I confess I AM a Foodie and not easily impressed, but this restaurant definitely passed the first test and brought me back a second time. And having just discovered the Happy Hour as well, it's now a new favorite. I will say that it can be very noisy, however, so I prefer going off times or asking for a table away from large parties and families. Everything is great, but especially addictive...the rice chips & their special mango Thai salsa chutney."

  • "We tried the tasting menu. The food was very good. We were told that the portions were going to be large, but we felt that they were small. To order the tasting menu you need to have two or more people. Each person gets to order their own entree, but it didn't seem like we were getting the full entree. The shrimp entree only gave us four shrimp. The steak entree also seemed more like an appetizer portion. So I'd have to say we were disappointed by the tasting menu. The two of us split 3 appetizers, 1 salad, 1 vegetable, 1 portion of rice, two small sized entrees and 1 dessert. I definitely didn't feel we got our money's worth in that regard. There were also additional charges for 3 of the dishes we selected. Avoid the tasting menu."

  • "We took some visiting friends there for dinner. They loved the food. Apparently there is nothing quite like it in Miami. I would like there to be a way to get 4 pieces of whatever appetizer is ordered, instead of 3. Charge another $1.50. It's awkward with 4 people and 3 pieces of something. And 6 pieces of shrimp when there are 4 people is also a problem. There needs to be an even amount for the number of people being served. Find a way to add extra."

  • "Had to wait around for almost 10 mins before someone came and took lie drink order. One of dishes came out (clay pot beef) but took another 5 minutes before the rice or anything else came. Ordered soup but it came with the meal. Had to wait for drink refills, etc. good food but disappointing service. "

The food is crazy-delicious - I've tried almost everything on the menu, and the wait staff and hostesses are all very professional and energetic and really make you feel at home! The decor is amazing throughout the entire restaurant, including the restrooms! "

  • "It's in a big mall -- you're not going to find fine dining here... but it's good and hearty, if a bit overpriced. Recommend the pork belly bao buns, the meatballs, and the ginger fried rice. They have some nice cocktails as well. It's a loud place, but the vibrancy feels good, not annoying. Shame that the seafood dishes are so expensive... that shied us away from trying them."

  • "Since the moment they opened their doors in Century City my family and I have been loyal fans. The food is always consistently good. Our fave dishes are Malaysian Salmon, Shaking Beef, Princess Chicken which is a gourmet boneless fried chicken, Caramel Beef and you must try the chicken and beef skewers for appetizers. Our newest dish is a rice packed inside banana leafs (forgot the name of it). We have also had small parties inside the private small party room that seats 14 people and has a private balcony (so worth it). Go there you will not be sorry."

  • "I'm a confirmed foodie & the bar's set high with me, but RockSugar is a find I never expected in Westfield Mall. It just may be my new favorite. Service was suprisingly attentive (so rare these days), and the decor is a great combination of elegant & yet light...like stepping into a modern Thai palace. We opted for a more intimate can-talk-in booth, with hanging curtains that help set you apart from the main room area (which can get noisy). And while we were light eaters, I can highly recommend what we tried. The Salmon Tartar, a nice twist on tuna tartar, was just a perfect blend of small bites of salmon in a medley of spices, the green mango & papaya salad perfect without being too hot, & the chicken in a kumquat chutney was great."

  • "This was our first visit and we couldn't get over the palace-like feel of this restaurant--high ceilings, large format wall paintings, wood carvings, and everything you'd expect from a Southeast Asian palace. The food was very good -- fresh and varied. We enjoyed the potstickers, mango salad, chicken. and the mixed vegetables. It was a great experience and we will definitely return."

It took the waiter approx. 10 minutes before taking our order, that's just way too long based on past experience. I do like this place and the food, but maybe I got the wrong table with the wrong waiter."

  • "Went for an early Mother's Day dinner on a Saturday night. Very vibrant atmosphere. Upon entering, was reminded a little of Las Vegas. Decor is gold buddhas and dark lighting. There are fire pits at the entrance where people can dine. Quite an experience. The food was excellent and service was good, given the full tables throughout the night."

  • "Apparently all the interior materials were imported from Asia, & it shows. Warm, exotic, romantic, steeped in history. From the front desk ladies, to the wait staff, the vibe we got was welcoming & caring. Total pros who have an uncanny sense of when to pop by the table to check on us. And as for the food, we chose the Chef's Tasting menu, a lovely group of several courses for 2 people. Appetizers, a soup, entrees, even a couple of incredible desserts, and the portion sizes were just right. My date & I agree that we could eat at Rock Sugar every week & never get tired of it. At $38 each, the prices weren't crazy expensive, & worth every penny. I'd recommend Rock Sugar to anyone who wants an extraordinarily relaxing & romantic evening out. "

  • "This restaurant has lost its mojo... price value just not worth it...avg dishes, shaking beef a few pieces of steak mostly onions, server couldn't get non cilantro ask executed correctly, beef skewers anemic thin, pad Thai pasty tasting..noodle seemed overdone, etc. Such a shame for arguably one of nicest decor units around...won't be back, just not worth it, feels like chain mgmt running the kitchen..."
