  • "Marvelous dining experience all around for my wife's birthday dinner this past weekend. We have dined here before, positives were noted. Although the dining room filled up, it was not noisy room. Broiled beef is my favored food. The suggested salad was a wonderfully unique taste experience creamed / whipped feta cheese spread base with heirloom tomatoes, olive oil and a great tasting select balsamic vinaigrette, fresh dill, dried melon squares, pickled red onions. wow! Service excelled in all areas The wine we selected was accurately described by astute and outgoing server. All around another welcoming dining experience served with great attitude and skill all around at Michael Symond's Roast restaurant in Detroit. We will be back again."

  • "My fiancé and I had an early dinner at Roast on 7/19/14 at 5:30 pm. Everything was perfect, the service beyond reproach, and the entire evening was the highlight of our weekend getaway. The Branzino, a fish I had no experience with, was absolutely perfect. My fiancé chose the Beast of the Day, a baby lamb concoction, that was absolutely to die for. We will be back!!! Thanks Brian for making our experience perfect!!!!"

  • "The Wyndham Book Cadillac hotel is perfect for a Tigers game, and Roast is a perfect place for an upscale dinner. The waitress was friendly and quick, the wine list has a good number of moderately priced wines for such a fancy place, and the overall ambiance is very welcoming. The only thing that wasn't perfect was my steak, which was fine but not Palm/Morton's killer beef like you can't get in a grocery store. At $40.00 for a twelve-ounce strip, it ought to be superb, not fine. I don't care - everything else was so easy and so tasty that a B+ steak can be forgiven. I'd go back in a heartbeat."

  • "We went to celebrate our anniversary and I hope this isn't a sign for our future. First, we wanted to be adventurous and try something different for our starter so we ordered the Pig Belly. It was small and basically a fancy piece of fat. Next, our second drink order took way to long. Then our meals came out and my filet was under cooked so we had to send it back. Also, we ordered three sides and two only came out at first and my husband's ribeye was served with a caprese salad on top, which ruined the flavor of his meal, and was the wrong ribeye. We didn't realize the mistake until we had left. Never did a manage come by. Finally, dessert was the pistachio brûlée was good and they did serve it with a 'Happy Anniversary' greeting."

  • "Might have been the best steak I ever had. Overall outstanding experience. Cant wait to go back"

  • "The food at Roast was good overall. I ordered the classic filet mignon, which was a bit oversalted but otherwise good. My husband really enjoyed the "Beast of the Day" which was lamb on this particular evening. The bone marrow appetizer was good, but we enjoyed the beef cheek pierogies more. The Sundae of the Day was a delicious dessert. The waitress was knowledgeable and pleasant, but seemed to rush us along. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to Roast. We valeted our car on this evening, only to find that it had been broken into. Apparently, the valet lot is not always watched by an attendant. This is more a comment on the valet service/hotel than the restaurant, but the food wasn't good enough to overcome that negative experience."

  • "Food here is great tasting. I go there especially for their bone marrow! But everything is way too salty. Even when I asked for no salt it was salty - must be the marinade."

  • "Did not live up to the hype I'd heard. Food was just ok. Service was fine but not exceptional, a bit disappointing."

  • "Daily beast was great. My wife's steak w blue cheese was ordered med rare, but came very rare. Waitress was great, but overtaxed. I hate getting served an entree with an empty wine glass. Beef cheek pierogie dough too heavy. Great wine selection."

  • "This was our second time celebrating our anniversary at Roast. The food and Presentation is excellent. Put Roast on your short list of special places."

  • "Had a fantastic business dinner at Roast on Wednesday night in July. Server was helpful, friendly and attentive to our needs. Keep the dinner at the pace we wanted. Bar was packed and live. The dinning area was pack as well. Great street views. The restaurant is located in the Book Cadillac Hotel. A true 1920 Art Decor gem of a building now run by Westin. Many great menu items and awesome wine list not to mention the cocktail emu. I will definitely go back."

  • "We made a reservation at Roast for our anniversary on the recommendation of a few friends. The menu features a lot of items you don't find in other restaurants. As our main dishes we ordered the Beast of the Day, a slow roasted Goat dish, a filet mignon with crab béarnaise, and whipped potatoes and spinach and feta au gratin as sides. The Goat was fantastic, something you definitely don't see everyday! The filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Some how we saved room for dessert and ordered "the Bar" which was nothing short of delicious. With great service and a great atmosphere Roast is a great place in downtown Detroit for a romantic dinner for two!"

  • "We enjoyed our dinner here. The service was very good. The items on the dinner menu were different than most of the high end restaurants we have visited. We were very pleased with the choices. We would definitely return."

  • "9pm reservations, we were seated right away. We found street parking on Washington. Server was very knowledgeable about the selection of wine, cocktails and spirits on the menu. The server also gave us a rundown of the menu. We ordered Pork Belly and Beef Cheek Pierogie for appetizers, both were excellent and full of flavor. Entrees were Goat (Roast Beast of the Day) and Pork Shank Confit. The goat was vibrant severed on a bed of greens with fresh shreds of carrot and a natural jus. The Pork Shank was moist and spicy and sweet. Both were excellent.Dessert was The Bar and Rosemary Icebox cake. Both were awesome. downside lukewarm coffee. I would definitely go back, although at $179 for dinner for 2...it is definitely for special occasions."

  • "Hands down the best food I have ever eaten! The quality, care, skill and execution to the food prepared is well worthy of the price! Dined with my best friend and she was very pleased by our entire meal from wine, appetizers, the main course and the sinfully delicious desserts prepared by the phenomenal Pastry Chef!"

  • "The Roasted Marrow is a delicious delight! We ordered the beast of the day and pork with a cherry Demi glacé. Both were tender and moist. The spinach with feta side dish is also scrumptious! We had a booth in the bar area, during happy hour. The crowd was festive and entertaining but not imposing. I highly recommend a visit to Roast."

  • "Food and atmosphere was fantastic. I had the pulled pork with kale and slaw. Simply outstanding. Atmosphere was fun, and electric Would recommend for business or pleasure."

  • "The food here is just amazing. Service is usually good though sometimes better than others...this trip our waiter sort of wandered off for long stretches. But my out of town guests were in a relaxed mood so nothing that affected the evening."

  • "Everything about our experience was a positive. We loved the mussels, sweetbreads and pork belly. We also enjoyed the branzino and porterhouse for two--amazing and gargantuan. Our server, Greg, always points us in the right direction with wine choices and he is perfectly attentive without being intrusive."

  • "The atmosphere of Roast is lively when you walk in, but calms down as you are ushered to your table in the back. My wife and I had the jerk spiced pork belly for an appetizer, and it was great, but was light on jerk seasoning. My wife had the wild boar ragu which was very good, but was on the salty side. I had the filet with crab bernaise. The steak was good but was overpowered by, again, a salty bernaise that lacked crab. The servers were very attentive. The alcohol was a little overpriced."

  • "My husband and I went to Roast for our 8 year anniversary. I had the olive oil and sea salt filet and the brussel sprouts. Both were amazing. The beef was so tender and the waitress was correct, that it was like cutting butter. My husband tried beast of the day, which was lamb, and the cauliflower. He liked my filet better than the lamb, but really enjoyed his selection. We shared one order of a salad, which the server split for us. The split salad was a perfect size. Our waitress was very helpful. She told us her favorites and gave many details about the menu, without us asking. I thought the atmosphere was a little lacking, but the food and service were fantastic."

  • "I took my wife out to celebrate her 50th birthday upon the recommendation of friend. The menu was truly unique as were the specialty drinks. It is not a romantic spot, but it is a bright spot in downtown Detroit as was evidenced by the number of patrons."

  • "We were visiting Detroit for a conference and were pleasantly pleased to have the opportunity to dine at Roast. It was fantastic from beginning to end! DELICIOUS!! Pricey but worth it..."

  • "I've stayed at the Westin Book Cadillac on a number of occasions but usually bypassed Roast; not because of any issues I heard but because I usually entered/exited the hotel near the 24Grille. However, we had some European colleagues in Detroit with us and they were interested in getting a steak so I made reservations. When we arrived we were greeted and seated promptly. The server was knowledgeable on the menu and the food selections. The wine recommendation was spot-on and the steaks (one ribeye and three fillets) were cooked to our liking (two went rare and two went medium). The sides we ordered were delicious, as well. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone in Detroit and looking for a good steak at a reasonable price."

  • "A great restaurant where you can consistently get great service and food. I am a repeat customer that has always had a great dining experience. Excellent wine list with a very good menu. Definitely a must if you haven't been here before!"

  • "We have been to Roast before and loved what we got. We came to find the same. Experimented with the marrow appetizer and loved it. We also always get the Brussels sprouts. My wife at home has replicated this recipe and we eat these on a weekly basis. All around great food and not as pricey as a lot of steakhouses"

  • "My wife and I love Roast, so I took her there for her birthday. The wine list is great, and Joseph is really good at helping you with pairings. The food is amazing (I strongly suggest the wild boar, and my wife loved the tartar). In all, this is a great restaurant. It gets my highest recommendation. For something intimate, have a seat in the private booths behind the bar. They're curtained off. Also, get the creme brulee. They're constantly rotating flavors. This is the only restaurant where I've enjoyed a non-vanilla creme brulee. All the flavors are amazing. Lastly, try to get Sara to wait on you if you can. She's THE BEST!!"

  • "We are BIG fans of Chef Simon's style of cooking and while the menu reflected this style, the execution was poor. Each dish was heavy handed on one ingredient. Pea Soup = Jalapeno, Crudo = Grapefruit and Branzino = Fennel. Maybe Michael is not involved in QC?"
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "The couple I was with was keeping an open mind so, it led to choosing new dishes for them. The server introduced the specials as we perused the menu. We chose, to start, the pea soup special (great, spicy and yet cooling), the pork croquette salad with the Dijon vinaigrette was delicious, and the bartender made my martini perfectly. Our entree selections did not disappoint; wild boar ragu, Branzino, and filet with sea salt and cracked pepper. There wasn't a morsel of food left on my plate. One at my table insisted upon dessert, the beer ice cream and caramel foam with chocolate covered pretzels. I usually don't care for sweet things but this was just the right amount of salty and sweet, great way to end the meal!"

  • "From the cocktails, to the pork fat starter, through the salad, continuing on with the sirloin and pork chop with the artichoke side, followed by port and the chocolate bar, there was not a bite that was not prepared perfectly. Highly recommend for a true dining experience."

  • "This is a great place to take someone you've had conversations with and want to expound on building a relationship. Not too romantic, not to stuffy. Just right for a business dinner or any other dinner"
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "This is the second time I've been here, and I absolutely love it. Wonderful food, splendid ambiance, and top-notch service. It's of course a little on the pricey end, but well worth it!"

  • "Requested a quiet table but was given a booth adjacent to the bar serving station. One of our entrees was inedible. It was not cooked to the degree on doneness requested but worse, the surface of the steak was so laden with salt that it could not be eaten (and I am a salt lover who often adds salt). There are better choices available."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Great food. From the soup to the entries, great flavors, big portions. Wonderful friendly service. We loved it. One of our complaints in a lot of restaurants is the pace of service and this was perfect. Courses came out at the perfect time. Would definitely recommend this to everyone."

  • "The food tasted delicious and the service was wonderful on the night but one of our party threw up a few hours after the meal and I had diarrhoea from during the night and all the following day. We will not be returning."
