Roast - A Michael Symon RestaurantAnother fine dining experience! This was another trip for us to Roast. We celebrated our 12th anniversary for this trip and I asked to sit in the private booths behind the bar. The seating was perfect, I enjoyed being away from the restaurant so to speak. The food, once again, was fantastic. There were a few menu changes like usual, so we did try a few of the new items. Everything was a complete hit!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurantWonderful atmosphere with great food and even better cocktails. The only reason I give this 4/5 stars is because I have eaten at a restaurant like Emeril's. This has a menu designed for a specific palate without too much variation. However, do not let that deter you from trying this amazing restaurant!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMawesome place, will def beawesome place, will def be back
2nd night was nowhere near as good as the first, but i was at the bar6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a special event.Great for a special event. They were great to us. Ran out of a couple of major items on the menu.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and excellent service.Great food and excellent service. They were out of the liquor needed to make my drink and when I asked for them to make something similiar with what they had available, they did, and it was delicious! Great ambiance and even when you are surrounded by other tables full of people, the tables are far enough apart to not distrub you.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHad the Veal Chop, it wasHad the Veal Chop, it was excellent!! Other guests had Lamb Ragu and they loved it!!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful RestaurantI truly enjoyed my experience at Roast! Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the wine and drink menu as well as the food menu. The low lighting and quiet music set a wonderful and romantic setting for my husband and me. The food was DELICIOUS!!! I highly recommend Roast to anyone. I will be going back soon! FYI.... Not a place for kids.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food&Service - A bit saltyWe were a party of 6 and all shared our dishes. Our 1st courses were all wonderful. We had tartare, veal sweetbreads, roasted marrow, and the stuffed peppers. All great dishes. The main courses were also great, however way too salty. Not sure if the cook had a heavy hand that night or if our orders were salted twice in error. It was still wonderful but we were very thirsty by the end of the dinner! We had the pork shank confit, the lemon chicken, halibut, filet mignon, lamb chops, and the shrimp/lobster salad. We also had different sides such as the rosmary fries (good but ubber salty), the spinach/feta gratin (wonderful), and the brussel sprouts (outstanding). The drinks from the bar were outstanding. Overall it was a very good dinner.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDrJM911Overall, superb quality of food, presentation, and flair. One minor criticism: we ordered chanpagne as it was our anniversary. This required the waiter to climb into the hinterlands of the high-tech cellar to retrieve it. Upon arrival, was at least 15 degrees too warm and never got a chance to properly chill in the ice bucket. Overall, I though the bottle prices for wine were quite reasonable given the quality and deprth of selection.
This was our second visit to Roast, and we look forward to returning in the near future.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA New Orleans Lady in DetroitWhat a gem and look forward to some day making my way back to Detroit to have another wonderful dining experience at Roast.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest steak I ever had andBest steak I ever had and the beer pretzel dessert was amazing!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and drinksMy husband and I went here ecently for his birthday. We've been here before, but the food was even better this time. Perfectly seasoned, beautiful plating and perfect portions. Great drinks too. You have to go.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceA lovely dinner with business associates. Even though they boast their 'beast' of the day, I enjoyed a halibut dish that was one of the best I have ever had. I don't like brussel sprouts, but I would return just to have the brussel sprout and walnut side. The srevers were attentive and knowledgeable.
It was an excellent dining experience!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPhenomenalFood was creative and delicious. The entire staff was engaged, engaging, and well-informed. Atmosphere was elegant but relaxed. Comfortable dress code ( servers wear jeans), but still felt special. Highly recommend--go for it and don't look at the prices, it's worth it!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderfulWe had a romantic table for two, secluded from the rest of the restaurant. The service was attentive but not interruptive. And the food was outstanding. One of the best steaks I was ever served. A great dining experiance.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAll of the food was outstanding. All of the food was outstanding. Service was very good, but perhaps a touch slow while serving the food, with some minor lags between courses. We found the dining room atmosphere to be nice, but somewhat ordinary. But, that's the least important aspect of the experience. We would definitely go again.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMA gem of a restaurant in DetroitI was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. There is nothing I can say that needed improvement. The service & food was excellent. A bit on the pricey side and everything is ala carte, but for special occasions, I'd go back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMRoast Is Always Great FromRoast Is Always Great From TheBar Menu To TheMain Dishes. Prices For What You Get Also Make It A Huge value.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous meal! This was our first time at Roast and we will definitely be back. Everything was delicious and many dishes were unique, including desserts. You must try the brussel sprouts, out of this world delicious! Don't bother going if you are a vegetarian unless you're looking to be converted to a carnivore. Meat is what they do and they do it well! Highly recommend to everyone else.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA toast to Roast!I had heard great things about this restaurant and was not disappointed.
Every dish we ordered - soft-shell crab, creamed asparagus soup (chilled), halibut, filet mignon, beer pretzel sundae - was so interesting and tasty. I am not a person that talks about the food I eat, I am just not that into food, but I cannot stop talking about the dinner we had at Roast!
The service was great; not over-bearing but very attentive.
First time visit and would definitely return.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing meatThe steaks are house aged cooked perfectly and fantastic. A little pricey but totally worth it dinner for two was $200 including tip.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner at RoastAs expected, the food at Roast was excellent. Our table of 6 tried some fish, meat, most of the side dishes, and the Brulee of the day. Everything was tasty, perfectly seasoned, and devoured. It was fun to see the Roast of the Day, goat, turning on the spit, and to catch glimpses of the grill and kitchen staff. A very enjoyable experience!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful nightWe took our son for his graduation. First may I say our server Greg was very knowledgeable he helped with our beer Nd wine orders. The restaurant itself was very chic. The food was AMAZING. First we had the homemade meats as a app. Feed all 3 of us. My son ordered the Halibet......it was the most beautiful plate I have ever seen, and tasted as good as it looked. I had Veal Sweetbreads, yummy. My husband had a steak which was typical but came with bone marrow. Again the word yummy comes up. That bone marrow was crazy good. I would recommend this restaurant to ALL. Pricey but wonderful......5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTastey but too closeThe food had a very interesting (and tastey) combination of ingredients - they were quite original. The meat portion was quite large, and my pork was perfectly cooked. Desert was also very good. My only complaint was that we were very close to our neighbors, and I wish they would have seated them further away as there was space when we first got there.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding ExperienceWe chose this restaurant to celebrate my wife's Birthday...she had been longing to try it for over a year. It did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. I had the Lamb Tbone and my wife ordered the scallops. The waiter was very attentive as was everyone at the Hostess stand. I would highly recommend this place for an enjoyable night out.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFood not to be forgotten! My fiance is a great chef and loves to try new, unique food. When I decided to take him to Roast for his birthday, I knew he wouldn't be disappointed. In fact, we were blown away. We started off with the beef cheek pierogies...nice crunch on the outside and wonderfully creamy inside - the horseradish and mushrooms were a great compliment. From there, we went on to a duck broth soup, which was poured over fresh vegetables (the exact name escapes me at the moment), and a arugula salad with goat cheese, strawberries and fennel.
Our main course consisted of the house aged ribeye (topped with bleu cheese - mmm!), the "Beast of the Day" and the deep fried brussel sprouts. I can't say enough about the sprouts. Perfect blend of sweet and acidity.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best experience yetMy husband and I have been to Roast many times, and have always had a pleasant dining experience. This particular evening, however, stood far above the rest. Everything was perfect: the stuffed peppers, the whipped potatoes, the fried brussel sprouts, and the porterhouse for two...amazing. Our waiter, Brian, was attentive without being ever present; and, his cocktail recommendations were spot on. Roast just seems to get better and better.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!Me and my husband went to Roast for our wedding anniversary. We ordered the beef cheek pierogies and the pork belly for our appetizers....they were fantastic! My husband ordered the Filet with sea salt, I ordered the lamb t-bones and we split a side of the Brussels sprouts with walnuts. Everything was cooked just right and was wonderful! I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts, I don't really care for them that much, but I could not stop eating these!
Dessert was a porter beer ice cream with chocolate covered pretzels and they made a little sign for the top out of white chocolate and wrote Happy Anniversary in dark chocolate, the perfect ending to a perfect meal:)5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great meal at RoastLove Roast...service has gotten better as time has gone on....We were 45 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic problems....they were still able seat us with a smile on their faces...no attitude. Food was great....still has too funky appetizers for us...not into beef cheeks etc....wish they had a few appetizers that were less adventurous but other then that which is just my opinion....have always enjoyed myself.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Halibut Ever! The ambience was perfect for a romantic birthday dinner. My husband enjoyed the well-cooked but tender Lamb T-bone and the Alaskan Halibut with Potato Gnocchi was delicious! The Roast wait staff topped it off with a chocolate brownie dessert and a birthday candle. The restaurant decor and the historic Westin Book Hotel are fabulous and first class.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBest steak everMy sweet husband took me out to celebrate Mother's Day. I had the Filet Mignon with Crab Béarnaise sauce...it was amazing. The steak was perfectly cooked with a delicious salt and peppery crust. It cut like butter. The perfect amount of chew so as to be able to savor each bite. The Crab Béarnaise was tangy and bright with the sweet lumps of crab. I could not imagine this steak could have been any better. I have shared my experience with all of my friends. The restaurant was lovely, service was superb and the food sublime. We will be back.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience, great foodNice ambiance, our service was excellent and the food for the most part was fantastic. The main courses were fantastic. Filet was quite delicious however the best meal was the pork chops. They were amazing. Slow smoked and then grilled up to temperature, tender Smokey and savory, best pork chops I have ever had. The sides were also quite good. The Brussle sprouts and spinach & feta au gratin were great and I highly recommend them. I would skip the rosemary fries. Pork belly appetizer was delicious, soft shell crab was ok but would not recommended. The real deal at Roast is the meat! If you like pork get the chops! Overall we were very satisfied.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AM'Smart' RoastThe dining experience was outstanding. Our server gave detailed information about the menu options and was able to answer
our questions. Both dinners were quite eye pleasing and tasted great down to the last bites. Serving portions were generous, but not overwhelming. I definitely recommend this dining spot.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMRoastPerfection. The best in Detroit. The best in Michigan. A completely wonderful experience again and again.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful eveningWent to Roast to celebrate my husbands birthday and it could not have been nicer. Brian, our waiter, was excellent. He helped a choose a wine for dinner that was wonderful and he was very knowledgeable about the whole menu........would go back again!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNew York Strip + Marrow = WOW!As the title says, I will be going back for one dish and it's WELL worth it!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our first time there. It was our first time there. Overall, it was a great experience. However, it was a bit too dark inside after the sun went down. The staff opend the blinds which helped a little but it was still very dark inside.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsRoast is my favorite, hands down. I have yet to find a place with food as good. It's the best.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the reasons we loveOne of the reasons we love Roast so much is because of our skilled and knowledgeable server, Greg. We loved the Sweetbreads, Soft Shell Crab and the classic bone marrow appetizers, and the Pork shank, strip steak and halibut were delicious. Also the Brussels Sprouts are not to be missed. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the bar is well stocked with lots of liquor and wine choices. Roast is definitely worth the trip downtown.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Detroit restaurantEvery meal I've ever had at Roast has been great. The food is excellent and there is a good energy in the restaurant. Can't wait for the B Spot burger places to open!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waitress was outstanding. Our waitress was outstanding. It was our first time at this restaurant and were slightly apprehensive about the limited menu selection. Our waitress walked us through several items on the menu that we would have never ordered on our own. The food was outstanding and we tried several items that were completely foreign to us. It was my wife's birthday and they even put a happy birthday chocolate with a candle on her dessert selection.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was excellent (apps,Everything was excellent (apps, drinks, meal), except for one dish. The Atlantic halibut was not up to Michael Symon standards. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars all around. Highly recommend.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMHappy anniversary to usEverytime I go back to roast I am blown away! My husband is a chef and this is our go-to dining destination for either a celebration or for the chicken liver on the happy hour menu.
The special touch of the happy anniversary decoration on our dessert and the hostess team helping me with my wardrobe malfunction definitely took this visit over the top!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat First ImpressionWow! Had a super dinner! Symon rocks! The crust on our steaks (rib eye & strip) was outstanding. Loved the Halibut soup. The Spinach au gratin was rich and outstanding. Both my wife and I rate this one of the top two or three dinners we've had and we're both in our early sixties. Great ambience. Liz , our waitress was outstanding.. (Hope I got her name right.) I would come back in an instant if not for the distance I had to travel.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome experience. The food was outstanding from the soup, appetizer, main course and dessert. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu items and made great recommendations.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood excellent and wonderfulFood excellent and wonderful chance to come during restaurant week. Variety available for that week. I like the sharing sides and portions were JUST PERFECT. I can't stand enough on my plate for 2-3 and this was the right size portion in addition to tasty and tasteful. The rhubarb/strawbery dessert was crunchy and I want to cook my rhubarb that way now...not always soggy.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed the swordfishReally enjoyed the swordfish and filet! Spicy tomato soup was excellent also the Feast chopped salad. We enjoyed the sweet potatoes and wild mushrooms as well.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVERY NICE FOOD AND PRESENTATIONVERY NICE FOOD AND PRESENTATION WAS LOVELY. SERVER WAS EXCELLENT, KNEW MENU WELL & MADE SUGGESTIONS. SEATED IN BAR AREA WHICH AT FIRST WAS QUITE EASY TO HEAR OUR CONVERSATION UNTIL LATER WHICH GOT VERY LOUD-AS FOLKS IMBIBED & BECAME MORE RELAXED. LAMB WAS A BIT LIKE PULLED LAMB, PROBABLY WOULD NOT ORDER AGAIN ACCORDING TO THE 2 THAT ORDERED IT. SWORDFISH WAS FABULOUS AND RISOTTO WITH SPRING VEGETABLES WAS EXCELLENT. A BIT OF A JAM AT THE VALET AND WAITED ABOUT MINIMUM 15 MINUTES FOR CARS-SEEMED DISORGANIZED. LOVELY AMBIANCE IN RESTAURANT.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!I went for restauran week and it was the first time I got something other than a steak here. Every part of the meal was fantastic! I had a veggie risotto that had wonderfly complex flavors and my boyfriend got the lamb which he said rivaled his usual steak from Roast.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best! The food, the service, the ambience--Roast has it all. The four of us enjoyed every moment. Disappointed that goat was not on
the menu as planned, but the replacement lamb was excellent! Would go back in a heartbeat, even without Restaurant Week pricing.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
